Dear Participants in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2013,

The year 2030 – what topics will be up for discussion in Davos then? No-one can say right now. But I can assure you that we are already working on how you will travel here in 2030.

With the Audi Urban Future Initiative, we are looking for mobility solutions for tomorrow and beyond and a blueprint for building the cities of the future. Audi did not approach city planners: we are looking for the ideal combination of individuality and communication, transportation and living space, nature and architecture. We engage in dialogue on these issues as part of our social responsibility as a company.

In 2030, six out of ten of the Earth’s inhabitants will live in a city – that’s 5 billion people. Cities exude a certain attitude to life and greatly affect the quality of life of their residents. Mobility is the prerequisite for

economic and social opportunities. As a car manufacturer, we want to learn to understand cities and how they work so that we can help to shape the mobility of the future.

The winners of the latest Audi Urban Future Award, the architects Höweler + Yoon, presented ideas for the Boston/Washington metropolitan region, including how to eliminate the division between city and suburb, how to make commuting more flexible and efficient, and how to turn travelling time into an exciting experience.

We don’t yet know what the future has in store – but we know how to get there. Come with us on our journey!
