Light as a feather Milestones in lightweight construction, past and present
Mirror, mirror on the wall, which car is the lightest of them all? Who was the pioneer in the development of lightweight construction? Will cars be as light as toys in the future? The “light as a feather” theme tour answers these and other questions.
The combined tour of the Audi museum mobile and TT body shop offers exclu- sive insights into the world of lightweight construction at Audi, past and present.
August Horch was the first car manufac-turer in Germany to recognise the advan-tages of lightweight construction in car production back at the beginning of the last century. Since then, the subject of “lightweight construction” has remained a recurring theme throughout Audi’s history.
Audi’s expertise in lightweight con-struction, dating back over 100 years, is highlighted on the 30-minute tour of

This is followed by a tour of TT produc-tion for exclusive insights into light-weight construction at Audi. The tour ties in with the history of lightweight construction and shows how this core competence runs through the recent history of the company since the start of development of the ASF body.
Lightweight construction has become a philosophy at Audi and can be found in all areas of the company. A glance into the future show new materials and de-signs which will be applied in the auto-motive production of tomorrow.
