Personal Statement

My passion for psychology started in my freshman year of high school when I took my first psychology class. I found myself loving class, reading the psychology book, and learning as much as I could about psychology. This passion continued since then. Every psychology/counseling class that I have taken since then, I have earned all A’s or B’s.

My career goal is to counsel in the mental health field, along with chemical dependency. I have found these two areas in most cases go hand in hand, but I have a strong passion for both of these fields. Currently I could get an entry level counseling position in chemical dependency, but I have made the choice to continue my education. My next step for my education is a MSW. I have chosen MSW because with this degree it opens all areas of counseling, and it seems to be more marketable. Once I have this degree I would enter in the counseling field as a level three counselor after completing 2000 hours of working under a license level three counselor. This not only opens up more jobs, but increases my pay as well.

My Future in Learning

Learning to me, is an important aspect of life. There is always something new to learn, may it be about psychology, or any other field. The main reason I feel that being a lifelong learner is important is because the field of psychology is always changing, with the discovery of different therapy techniques, medications, and diagnoses of new mental illnesses. I want to be a successful counselor, and learning is a part of this dream. With my continued education, I will be able to counsel my future clients effectively and ethical.
