How did you attract/address your audience?

Page 2: Attracting an audience

To attract our audience, we have created an eye-catching front cover. We took inspiration from a magazine called INDIE when choosing the image, this is showing the model to be the focal point of the front cover. By using this image, we are challenging the general conventions of other music magazines as they tend to have more than one person a on front cover as well as having a more studio based shot on the cover. However we have attracted our audience by using this photo as it is quirky and stylish, this fits the genre of our magazine and audience. We have however followed general conventions when regarding our cover lines and masthead, we placed the cover lines around the model and created a balance. By using words such as EXCLUSIVE and KEEP UP, this interests the reader/audience and makes them want to read into the article. When picking a house style and colour scheme for the front cover, we decided to go with blue as it compliments the colouring of the image chosen. The sunglasses and the blue jacket work well with the colour of the masthead and the blue boxes around the cover lines. I think another good feature of this front cover. This attracts our audience as it is eye-catching and bold. I think the model on the front cover would also attract our audience as she is relatable and fits the image of indie rock. The model would be able to attract both genders as the cover overall is quite universal. I think by having the model face on towards the camera this engages with the audience more. I think also by having the Music Style News surrounded by a blue line this gives the front cover a nice house style and gives it an artistic effect. This would attract our audience as indie rock is associated with style and fashion, and keeping up with trends.

For our contents we included different images of artists across the page as well as covering articles. The layout of our front cover follows general conventions of most music magazine contents pages. This will attract our audience as it a simple and easy to read contents page. We chose this blue shade as it will fit the same colour scheme of the front cover. This will appeal to our audience as we are showing a good colour scheme which will appeal to both males and females. The colour scheme on this page will attract our audience as they are universally liked colours including blue and blacks and white. By keeping it relatively neutral colours this will appeal to both genders and most ages of our audience. The colours used on the page also compliment the main image of our main article (our double page spread). This will attract our audience as it is stylish and contemporary. By highlighting words like EXCLUSIVE and big stories, this intrigues the reader and attracts them to read more about the articles. We have changed the colour of the font to bl ueand adjusted the words to be bold. This helps them stand out and benefits the reader. I think also by separating the articles into sections i.e.. Music, News, Style, this benefits the reader/audience and helps them navigate to which articles they wat to read in the magazine.

When creating our double page spread we used a fun image, which would appeal to our audience as the girls are relatable. This would also attract our audience as the models are young and trendy, from our survey results it showed that majority of our audience to be younger. We have used young models throughout our magazine which will attract the younger audience. We also included polaroid's on this double page which added a vintage and grunge vibe to the layout, this will attract our audience as vintage&grunge is very popular within our social group. We also used a typography which is to represent hand writing, this creates a sense of style and realism to the polaroid's. Our layout generally follows the conventions of most music magazines, this will appeal to our audience as it is easy to follow and has a balance composition.

However we created a colour scheme of purple and white as we wanted to compliment the images/main image we have chosen. This didn't match either our contents page or front cover, this would be challenging general conventions of other magazines. However by using the font of Indie Summer throughout the magazine this has created a house style and flow through the magazine despite not having a set colour scheme throughout. This will attract our audience as we have experimented with a range of colours schemes and styles to represent different images and acticles.
