ETSI TC ATTM

DTR/ATTM-06002: “Power Optimization for xDSL transceivers.” Publication expected end 2011

This will be a Technical Report

Possibilities to optimize the power consumption of the xDSL transceiver shall be investigated. These investigations may include power modes that are beyond the currently existing modes.

The potential influence of power optimization schemes on the stability and performance of each line of the network due to power optimization, e.g. non-stationary noise, shall be an important part of the work.

ETSI TC ATTM DTS/ATTM-02005-x-y• This TS series addresses the energy efficiency of the key sub-systems for broadband

deployment ranging from the operators data centers, sites, core networks, via the access network to the customer premises. The work has been done under the Specialist Task Force (STF) 362.

• The following deliverables have now been approved in the Working Group and sent for publication.

• TS 105 174-1: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Overview, common and Generic Aspects

• TS 105174-2-1: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Operator sites. • TS 105174-2-2: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Data centres. • TS 105174-4: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Access networks • TS 105174-5-1: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Customer network

infrastructures: Homes (Single-tenant) • TS 105174-5-2: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Customer network

infrastructures: Office premises (Single-tenant) • TS 105174-5-4: Energy Efficiency and Broadband Deployment: Customer network

infrastructures: Customer data centres (Single-tenant)

• The metrics of energy efficiency (Key Performance Indicators) have been addressed for each sub-system and defined for specific sub-systems in which they will link into other initiatives such as the EU Code of Conducts.

ETSI TC ATTM Harmonisation of External Power Supplies• AT2 is working with HGI regarding harmonisation of external Power

Supplies, it is intended to produce an ES based on the output of DTS/ATTM-03004 on this topic in liaison with HGI.

• The liaison with HGI would be at ATTM level in order to coordinate the responsibilities for work within the different WGs: AT2 for Telecommunications and AT3 for DOCSIS.

• Several internal liaisons will be open with EE (measurement) and ERM (EMC) as soon as AT2 will issue first draft on general characteristics.

• Three main external liaisons are yet active:• GeSI-EE IOCG for worlwide ICT   (main Telcos as small ones too, IT & Telcoms

Vendors)• I&C CG for CENELEC/CEN    • IEC/Sectorial Board 4 (ICT Technical Board of IEC). Coordination work will start

by two weeks in order to negotiate a continuous standardisation ETSI/ES to IEC/IS standard.

ETSI TC ATTM Energy Efficiency

• The collaboration that is ongoing between GeSI-EE IOCG (Global e-Sustainability through Innovation \ Energy Efficiency Inter Operators Collaboration Group) and ATTM / AT2 in relation to energy efficiency. He informed that GeSI-EE IOCG will provide a survey of energy efficiency world standardisation and will push more global cooperation and sharing of results amongst standardisation bodies and forums. ATTM and AT2 and other WGs will be welcome in cooperating towards these goals.

• Regarding GSM Base Stations following a GSMA's request ATTM will start new work on general engineering of efficient base stations with full support of GeSI-EE IOCG.

The above two ATTM activities have been taken into account and agreed by GeSI-EE IOCG.
