Green A National Juried Exhibition Attleboro Arts Museum 86 Park Street Attleboro, MA 02703 Exhibition dates: July 6th – August 3rd, 2011 Opening Awards Reception: Wednesday, July 6th, 7‐9pm. Free and open to the public. Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am‐4pm. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Attleboro, MA – Many associate the color green with nature and peaceful, earthly delights. In recent years, green has become a code for environmentalism. From July 6 th – August 3 rd visitors to the Attleboro Arts Museum will experience GREEN as it falls between yellow and blue, as a call‐to‐action, as the almighty dollar, as our eco‐future, as a childhood encounter with vegetables … In January 2011 the Museum posted a national call for artists requesting work in any size, medium or concept that responded to GREEN. Guest juror Kate McNamara, Director and Chief Curator of the Boston University Art Gallery, carefully reviewed close to 300 submissions that were sent to the Museum from all over the United States. “We received artwork from California to Massachusetts – and several states in between. Each piece carried a unique spin on GREEN. Some were a sign‐of‐the‐ times, others were a reflection of how the artist connects to their locale and several were strong studies in color and texture,” comments Mim Brooks Fawcett, Executive Director of the Attleboro Arts Museum. Fawcett continues, “This theme was selected because of its diversity. GREEN can be a cause, a color and – as with so many colors – there are powerful emotional associations.” The public is invited to attend the Opening Awards Reception for GREEN on Wednesday, July 6 th from 7‐ 9pm. Six juror’s awards will be presented to the following exhibiting artists: Michelle D. Acuff of Walla Walla, WA; Mia Capodilupo of Chicago, IL; Donna Catanzaro of Windham, NH; Virginia Fitzgerald of Natick, MA; Lisa Gabrielle Russell of Braintree, MA; Elaine Pawlowicz of Dallas, TX. Fifty dynamic works of art will be on display. The Acoustic/Folk/Indie band, Cactus Attack, will perform live music. The reception is free of charge. The Attleboro Arts Museum gallery hours for GREEN are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 – 4pm. The exhibition will run from July 6 th – August 3 rd , 2011. Admission is free; donations are always appreciated. ‐ more ‐ Hybrid #6 by Mia Capodilupo; fabric, plastic, cast rubber, fur, styrofoam, metals on canvas.
