attendance this week - enfield
TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents/Carers, Governors and Friends,
Religious Education features in our year group pages this week. It has never been more relevant or engaging as religion and religious
issues are in the news every day. RE is taught as an academic subject where pupils are finding out about what different people
believe and how they practise their religion. In their future, our pupils will all need to work and live alongside people from other
religions, so it’s essential that they know enough about other religions to do this successfully.
In tackling difficult questions, it provides pupils with insight that can work to challenge stereotypes, promote cohesion, and tackle
extremism. RE does important work encouraging young people to value themselves and the communities within which they live.
In RE, our teachers won’t try to change children’s beliefs or force them to be religious.
Have you booked your 10 minutes consultation with your child’s class teacher on 6th May: powenfield.schoolcloud.co.uk/ ?
The deadline is today at 6pm.
Join us with our first Climate Action target: ‘To throwaway waste using the normal and recycling bins inside and outside the school.’
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend,
Mr Jan M Bless – Headteacher
New: POWCast
Mr Taylor introduces POWCast, a podcast by pupils who give their opinion on a Big Question. In this first episode, Arios, Kerem and
Blessing give their opinion about the best football player, Messi or Ronaldo? POWCast Episode 1 - Who is the best player - YouTube
Mindfulness
Next week every child in school will be taking part in a mindfulness session. These have been booked in recognition of the impact
that lockdown has had on the children at our school.
We recognise that mindfulness is an important tool in promoting mental health and we hope that all children take away positives
they can use to support them in school and at home.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in
Number Day on Friday 7th May 2021.
Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a
positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it.
During the day, classes will take part in fun, engaging maths
activities such as games, puzzles, scavenger hunts, number trails,
investigations and sharing maths through story. We will also be
taking part in Dress up for Digits.
Pupils are asked to wear an item of clothing with a number on it or
get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme
– have a look at the pictures below for ideas.
To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for a suggested
donation of £1, and we’d love everyone in the school to take
part in this special event.
We’re really looking forward to all the fun of
Number Day, and we really appreciate your support.
All the money we raise will make an enormous
difference to children today.
Kind Regards,
Miss Thomas – Maths Lead
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our in-school mental health support service,
Place2Be, has just launched Parenting
Smart, a new site for parents and carers.
Parenting Smart offers practical advice on
supporting your child and managing
behaviour, with short articles and videos on a

If you have any questions, please Jonathan

We learned about their values of having a kind
mouth, kind hands and a kind body. We worked
in pairs to match the values to the body parts.
We learned how Alevis
prepare for a Cem
ceremony and what they do.
We listened to Saz music and considered how
it made us feel happy and calm.
In RE, Year 1 learned about Alevism and the Cem ceremony
We prepared questions about
what we wanted to ask our
visitor from the Alevi
community. He also showed
us some artefacts and
someone played Saz music.
We had fun!
We learned how they
help each other solve
problems, so we
thought about how
we could do the same
for each other.
We shared some fruit and reflected on how
grateful we were for the all that we have.
RE: Year 2 – Islam
We have been learning more about the Muslim faith, especially about the meaning of Ramadan and Id-ul-Fitr.
One of our colleagues, Mrs Teke was our guest speaker and she introduced herself by saying, “Id Mubarak, I am a
Muslim and I am going to tell you a few things about Islam and then you can ask me questions.” Mrs Teke
reiterated the children’s learning this week, talking about Muslim identity, Ramadan, and Id-ul-Fitr linking to
compassion, generosity, understanding and how these link to our school values and British Values.
Do Muslims
sometimes
stop fasting? Why do
Muslims
fast?
Why do Muslims
read the Qur’an
backwards?
I read in the
Qur’an “Jesus is
a prophet of
Allah,” is that
true?

We know that the
Torah holds the
Jewish laws, which
all are written in
Hebrew by hand.
We discussed our Home-School
Agreement and the school rules.
We concluded that some rules
are harder to follow than
others.
In DGR, we read extracts
from Anne Frank’s
diary and found out
how she became a
famous writer.
We learnt about the story
of Joseph and his brothers,
which is an example to the
Jewish people of how to
remain good and true.
Important information regarding the EU Settlement Scheme
The deadline for the EU Settlement Scheme is 30 June 2021, and CAE hopes to offer assistance and reassurance for those
completing EUSS applications.
This scheme applies to EU, EEA and Swiss citizens currently living in the UK. Completing the application is crucial for those
who wish to continue to live, work and study in the UK. Failing to apply for the scheme before the deadline could have
serious consequences, including losing entitlement to public services, such as healthcare and schools, entitlement to public
funds and pensions and British citizenship.

Year 6 have been learning
about Hinduism and the
Mandir.
The children learned
about the Hindu belief
that one god can take
many forms.
One glass of water contains
salt. The children were
unable to tell which one
just by looking. This
represents belief in the
gods despite not being able
to see them.
Looking at pictures of the
gods, children used their
inference skills to think
about what each god
represented.
Year 6 took a
virtual tour of the
Mandir. They took
notes on things
you would see and
hear inside and
outside of the
Mandir and how
these reflect
Hindu beliefs.
