Your Customer Account Administrator may have customized your installation of the AT&T Client. When using a customized version of the client one or more of the following windows may not be shown.

Upgrading Previous Releases If you already have the AT&T Client installed on your workstation, AT&T Client version 7.3 will perform an upgrade of previous version 5.x and version 6.x releases of the AT&T Client. During the upgrade, the previous AT&T Client will be uninstalled, the workstation will be rebooted, and then the new AT&T Client will be installed. Your user data and AT&T Client customizations will be preserved. Your user data will not be restored if your current version of the AT&T Client is version 5.03 or earlier.

If you are using a version prior to version 5.0 of the AT&T Client, it is recommended you uninstall your current version prior to installing version 7.3.

Upgrading Version 7.0+ Installations

If you already have a 7.0 or greater version of the AT&T Client installed, when you launch the installation program the upgrade confirmation dialog shown below will be displayed. Click Yes to continue.

Figure 4: Upgrade Confirmation Dialog

Profile Management

AT&T Client profiles store user information.

A profile includes:

• Account • User ID • Advanced Login Properties (Service, WINS, DNS, Domain Suffix, Windows Login)

• Service

Most users connect with the same information a majority of the time and will only require one profile.

If you connect with different user IDs or services you may want to define profiles for your common combinations to easily switch between them. AT&T Client profiles can be assigned common names to help you remember when to use them, for example, "My Internet Profile" or "VPN Servers Germany".

Change Settings for Existing Profile

Select the profile name from the drop down box under Change any setting for the following profile and the current connection: and click Next>. Make any changes to the settings in the remaining Setup Wizard windows and click Finish on the last window to save your changes.

Associating to a Wi-Fi Hotspot The AT&T Client recognizes a connection as WiFi when the AT&T Client controls the association to the hotspot. If you are using another program that acts as a radio manager (i.e. IBM Access Connections), and that program automatically associates to WiFi hotspots whenever they are in range the AT&T Client may categorize the connection type as a generic broadband/Ethernet connection type.

Click Connect and the AT&T Client will use the default automatic connection sequence to establish your connection using WiFi providing WiFi is in the connection sequence and a WiFi network is in range.

To associate to a specific hotspot directly, rather than using the automatic connection sequence, click Click here to view nearby WiFi networks. The networks in range will be listed. Click on the name of the hotspot network to which you would like to connect.

Wi-Fi Hotspot Types The AT&T Client categorizes WiFi hotspots in five categories, Encrypted, preferred private, preferred, nonpreferred, and free. More information about each type is shown in the following table.

TYPE DESCRIPTION

Encrypted The hotspot supports encrypted traffic, requires a password to associate and the password is unknown to the AT&T Client. This hotspot type may be located in a private or public location.

Preferred Private 2

The hotspot requires a password to associate and the password has been configured either in the AT&T Client or Microsoft Windows. This hotspot type is typically located in a private location (your office, home, etc.)

Preferred The hotspot is owned by a partner of AT&T. You must be authorized to use the AT&T Preferred WiFi service by your Customer Account Administrator. An AT&T account, user ID and password are required to associate to the hotspot. This hotspot type is usually located in a public location.

NonPreferred The hotspot is broadcasting an SSID and traffic to/from the hotspot is not encrypted. A separate authentication (outside the AT&T Client, usually through a web browser) is required to associate to the hotspot. This hotspot type is usually located in a public location.

Free The hotspot is broadcasting an SSID, does not require a password to associate and traffic to/from the hotspot is not encrypted. This hotspot may be located in a private or public location.

Figure 79: Hotspot Types

2 Preferred Private connections are only supported on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Windows XP users must install the Microsoft Wireless LAN API (KB918997) to support Preferred Private connections.

The AT&T Firewall is active on all network card interfaces and all Microsoft Remote Access Services WAN/DialUp Networking interfaces whenever your machine is powered on, regardless of whether there is a current connection to an AT&T network.

The AT&T Firewall provides the following:

• Blocks unsolicited traffic when not connected

• Blocks unsolicited Internet traffic while VPN connected

Firewall Settings Window The AT&T Global Network Client Firewall Settings Window allows you to select the Firewall state (On/Off) when a VPN connection is not active. The Firewall Settings window can be accessed by clicking the Microsoft Windows Start Menu, mouse over All Programs, click AT&T Global Network Client, and click Firewall Settings. The Internet Premium and Managed VPN Premium Editions include the software required for the AT&T End Point Security service. The AT&T End Point Security service provides lowlevel firewall rules, highlevel program control, malware protection, and strict policy enforcement. When you are out of compliance with the policy set by your Customer Account Administrator your connection may be confined to a remediation area where you are guided through steps to become compliant.

The AT&T End Point Security service integrates technology from the Check Point Integrity ® product line (Check Point Integrity Client and Server) with the AT&T Client.

Enterprise Policy When using the End Point Security service, your Customer Account Administrator defines an Enterprise Security Policy that defines the rules for your firewall behavior. Your Enterprise Policy is active when you are connected to your corporate network using the AT&T Client and depending on policy settings set by your Customer Account Administrator, can also be active when not connected to your corporate network.

An Enterprise Policy defines firewall rules to protect your computer and your network traffic may be restricted based on attributes of the type of communication. Your Customer Account Administrator may define rules for permissible traffic protocols, block or allow traffic based on the IP address of the packet source or destination, the IP or VPN protocol used, or the ports used.

The Enterprise Policy is enforced by the Check Point Integrity Client which proactively notifies the AT&T Client of your compliance with your Enterprise Policy. This allows the AT&T Client to appropriately respond, including disconnecting the session when necessary.

If your Enterprise Policy is not retrieved from the Check Point Integrity Server within 2 minutes of a connection, the AT&T Client will disconnect the session. If you remain out of compliance with your Enterprise Policy for an extended period of time (the time limit is determined by your Customer Account Administrator) the AT&T Client will disconnect the session.

You should contact your Customer Account Administrator if you have specific questions about your company’s Enterprise Security Policy and the type of restrictions enforced.

Integrity Icons Once the Integrity client is installed, you will see an icon in the System Tray in the bottom righthand corner of your computer. The icon appearance indicates the client condition as follows:

Integrity Client firewall running

Active connection to Integrity Server

Network activity under evaluation

Restricted Mode (enforcement rule violation)

Enforcement Rules Your Customer Account Administrator defines and controls your company policy. A security policy can contain enforcement rules that establish requirements for your computer. If your computer does not comply with one or more rules, your connection to your Corporate Enterprise Network is restricted to a remediation server where you can obtain information and resources for restoring your computer to compliance. If your computer is violating an enforcement rule set by your Customer Account Administrator, the Integrity Enterprise Policy Alert Window will provide you with a URL to a remediation server to download compliant software.

Click Click Here for Help on the Integrity Enterprise Policy Alert Window to be directed to your remediation server.

If your computer has violated several enforcement rules, use the arrow keys on the Integrity Enterprise Policy Alert Window to scroll through all alerts. If your computer has violated only one rule the arrow keys will be disabled.

Click OK to close the Integrity Enterprise Policy Alert Window. Closing the Integrity Enterprise Policy Alert Window does not restore your network connectivity. Your network connectivity will remain restricted until you restore your computer to compliance.

Clicking OK Does Not Remediate: Clicking OK to close the Alert Window does not restore network connectivity. You must take action to restore your workstation to compliance to restore connectivity.

Remediation

The URL to which you are directed when you click Click Here for Help informs you why you are out of compliance and what is needed to become compliant.

If the message displayed is a warning, you will still be able to access your corporate network. Your message will explain how long you have to become compliant and where to find the information to become compliant.

If the message displayed is a restriction, you will not be able to access your corporate network. Once you have completed the actions needed to become compliant, you will be able to access your network after the next verification of your computer state. The time until the next verification is configurable by your Customer Account Administrator. You can disconnect and reconnect to immediately recognize you have made the changes to become compliant.

Integrity Client Interface

DoubleClick on the Integrity Icon, to open the Check Point Integrity Agent Window. On the lefthand side of the window click Policies to see the policies currently being monitored. The Policies tab will display your Local and Enterprise policy basic information.

Click Overview to view the Integrity Client version information.

Exiting Integrity Client By default the Integrity Client includes the ability to exit the application. You should not exit/close the application unless instructed to do so by your Customer Account Administrator or AT&T Support Personnel. To exit from the Integrity Client rightclick the status bar icon and click Shut down Check Point Integrity Agent. The Integrity Client will not automatically restart until you restart your computer, even if a connection is initiated using the AT&T Client. If you are unable to select Shut down Check Point Integrity Agent, your Customer Account Administrator has turned off your ability to exit from the Integrity Client as part of your Enterprise Policy.

Where do I input my VPN Client ID? It is not necessary to manually input your VPN Client ID beginning with version 7.0 of the AT&T Client.

What happens if I am not a Endpoint Security user and I install a Premium Edition?

You will receive the static default policy that is used with the firewall. Also, if you have Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro installed on your computer, installing the CheckPoint Integrity Agent will upgrade your current product, and you will no longer have any local/personal firewall policies or a user interface to create, delete, or control local/personal firewall policies.

Why is my tethered cellular modem no longer recognized? If you are using a tethered cellular modem it is important that the same USB port is always used to connect the modem. If the modem is switched between different USB ports the AT&T Client may be unable to recognize the device. If you are experiencing issues recognizing a tethered cellular modem after reconnecting it, rebooting your computer should resolve the issue.

Why is my USB Wi-Fi modem no longer recognized? If you are using a USB WiFi modem it is important that the same USB port is always used to connect the modem. If the modem is switched between different USB ports the AT&T Client may be unable to recognize the device. If you are experiencing issues recognizing a USB WiFi modem after reconnecting it, rebooting your computer should resolve the issue.

What is the automatic backup feature built into the AT&T Global Network Client?

The automatic backup feature is supported in some countries and service plans. This feature connects you to the network even if you receive a busy signal or no answer when trying to connect to a phone number in the access list. This feature improves network availability during peak usage times.

The following criteria must also be met to use the automatic backup feature:

• If any of the attempts to the number chosen were busy or did not answer, and the criteria below are met, the automatic backup number is called whether or not a backup phone number was selected.

• Your modem must report that the called phone number is busy or did not answer.

• You must have the primary phone number configured for at least two dial attempts. (Two attempts is the default.)

• Your user ID and service plan must be authorized to use the automatic backup feature.

• You must have connected previously with this user ID and service on this computer.

• The country you are calling must support the automatic backup feature.

• You must be calling from within that country to a number also within that country.

• The phone number must be selected from the list of available access numbers, and be an AT&T Global Network number. In addition, the number used cannot be customized to the point where it is no longer recognized as being selected from the list.

• When calling within the United States, the primary phone number must not be longdistance.

• The phone list must be recent, no more than 30 days old. (You may use the Check for Updates program to download the latest phone list as shown in Figure 196: Check for Program Updates Dialog.)

(These criteria are subject to change without notice.)

The Client program uses IP to communicate with other computers on the network just like other network programs (such as web browsers and email programs). Thirdparty personal firewalls can prohibit certain types of network communication. Running multiple firewalls on users’ PCs can cause difficulties and is not supported by AT&T.

Some firewalls must be configured to allow the Client to communicate with the network in order for client features to function properly. The table below lists the required changes. More information about the features is found in the list below the table.
