May 21 at 10:30 AM

Please join our Sunday School families for a picnic

on the lawn in celebration of a wonderful year of

learning about Jesus.

Sign up to bring a salad or a dessert…. and your

favorite game.

ALL ARE WELCOME!

Our diaper party was a HUGE success! Atonement's Young Families

collected over 4,000 diapers to donate to Mary's Place Refugee Outreach

Center, and over $700 was donated to Carry the Future.

That money will be used in Greece, France and/or Serbia to purchase

diapers to be distributed in refugee camps.

Thank you to all who supported this amazing endeavor!

PASTOR’S PAGE

There is hardly a more emotionally charged word than the

word home. And for all who believe in the Risen Christ, we

know where our final destination will be: not an unknown

place, but home.

One such believer was Sojourner Truth. Born in 1797, she

escaped slavery and became an abolitionist and traveling

preacher. Before she died at the age of 86, she referred to the

end of her earthly life by saying, “I’m not going to die, honey;

I’m going home like a shooting star!” May we have that same

confidence in the promise of God’s eternity.

Death is God carrying us

in one arm while the other

flings aside heaven’s door

to welcome us

back to the blazing hearth

of our first home.

While those inside,

having arrived before us,

rush to the door

like glad children shouting,

“They’re here!”

Death has a bad name on earth

but in heaven

it’s a homecoming party

everytime the door opens.

God does not forget

those earthbound children,

sad and left behind.

God leaves the party early

to enter into their despair

and to get them ready

for their own parties someday.

Jean Formo

In Christ,

Pastor Gail

SYNOD ASSEMBLY

Building Bridges is the theme for the 2017 Synod Assembly

which will be held June 8 - 10, 2017 at the Joseph A. Floreano

Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, NY with

accommodations at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside.

This year we are lifting up Global Mission with a focus on

accompaniment. Accompaniment, literally walking together side

by side, is a mutual relationship and journey where the presence

of God is revealed. Our synod practices accompaniment through a

companion synod relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran

Church in Zimbabwe (ELCZ) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in

Zambia (ELCZa). This year's Assembly will incorporate a

Churchwide “Glocal” event providing assembly participants with a

wonderful opportunity to be immersed in all things global

throughout all three days.

Synod Assembly is open to persons of all ages who want to

attend, not just rostered leaders and congregational voting

members. Each congregation is encouraged to consider electing

youth and young adults as voting members to the Synod Assembly

as well.

If you are interested in attending the Synod Assembly, please see

Pastor Gail.
