About Athlete Ally Athlete Ally's mission is to educate and ac4vate athle4c communi4es to eliminate homophobia and transphobia in sports and to exercise their leadership to champion LGBT equality. In 2014, we saw more athletes come out, allies speak out and sports organiza@ons take a stand for LGBT equality than ever before. Recent and current examples of our work include: • A landmark partnership with the Gill Founda@on to bring allyship trainings to five
states that currently lack statewide LGBT employment protec4ons. • A formal partnership with Major League Baseball, to provide team trainings and
develop resources to be shared across the League that address the importance of tolerance in sports.
• Partnerships with the NBA and the WNBA. • Co-‐authored with Dr. Pat Griffin the NCAA’s first ever policy and resource guide
on LGBT issues for all coaches, athletes and administrators. • Provide support to our 20,000+ members who engage in a range of campaigns for
inclusion in sports, including the Athlete Ally Pledge.
Our Supporters "Now that Jason Collins has come out, he is the proverbial "game-‐changer." One of the last bas4ons of homophobia has been challenged. How many LGBT kids, once closeted, are now more likely to pursue a team sport and won't be scared away by a straight culture?” – Mar4na Navratrilova, WTA
"Respect the game, respect others – that's what I always learned in sports. Whatever background or whatever you are, it doesn't maier. Treat everyone the same, that's how it should be.” – Yogi Berra, Three-‐@me MLB MVP
“I am extremely honored to promote inclusion of LGBT people in sports, because I believe it is essen@al that the NFL has a respeckul culture. When a football player, at any age, has an opportunity to lead, he should also do so with respect towards everyone.” – Marcedes Lewis, NFL Tight end
"Becoming an Athlete Ally gives me the opportunity to spread a message of inclusiveness throughout the NBA and our country. I want all members of the LGBT community -‐ whether they are parents, players, coaches or fans -‐ to feel welcome in the NBA and in all of our communi4es.” – Kenneth Faried, NBA Power forward
