As a young man, my father used the story and experiences of an amazing American to instill a commitment to the power of TEAMWORK. The story went something like this….. A US jet fighter pilot in Vietnam – Charles Plumb – completed 75 combat missions when he was shot down. Plumb was ejected and parachuted into enemy hands, where he spent six years in a Vietnamese prison. One day, a man came up to him and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!” Plumb was confused and asked how the man knew about that. “I packed your parachute,” the man replied. The man then shook his hand and said, “I guess it worked!” Plumb assured him it had and said, “If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.” Plumb thought a lot about that man who held the fate of someone he did not even know, in his hands. He kept pondering how many times he might have seen the guy, and not even said anything because he was a fighter pilot and the stranger was just a sailor.” Charles Plumb is now a motivational speaker telling this story to hundreds. After telling it, he always asks his audiences, “Who’s packing your parachute?” In our life, be it personal or work related, many people have a hand in our parachutes. Are you taking

Events - Present and Future

A Letter From The Editor  Dear Monarch Friends and Families:  The Summer months are teamwork months in education! Reflecting back, the COVID months, were also teamwork months in education. During these times, students, teachers, parents, administrators, and first responders work together to ensure our students continue to grow and thrive. Are you taking

the time to acknowledge, thank, and reward them? It is very easy to overlook the work of many. It takes a lot of people to create a team.  At Poolville Elementary School, we are PROUD to have you on our TEAM! We are all “Mighty Monarchs”! We are all…..one herd….one pride…...one group…..one TEAM….and one FAMILY!    Together we can change the WORLD for our CHILDREN.    At Poolville, you and your children MATTER!  You are our FAMILY!  Sincerely,  Jason Cheslock

The Power of the ‘Radio’....Turning up the Volume for Success!  Would you like your child to have larger vocabulary and enhanced reading comprehension skills? Studies show consistent music education improves both areas. How does it work?  Emerging evidence suggests the area of the brain controlling both musical ability and language comprehension are more related than previously thought. Music education requires students to recognize and repeat pitch, tone or enunciation of words.  Especially in young children, music directly benefits the ability to learn words, speak them correctly, and process the many new sounds they hear from others. So, if your Mighty Monarch needs a little learning jumpstart this Summer, start by turning up the RADIO.  Attention….Please Stay Tuned for an Important Art Announcement!  Art programs have the potential to help improve a student’s memory and concentration skills, develop decision-making and critical thinking skills, enhance communication and listening skills, but also encourage focus and discipline.    Art programs encourage students to be creative and use their imagination as much as possible. As this increased emphasis on creativity happens, children cherish new ways of thinking about the world in general. Needless to say, art programs are a critical aspect in helping students to magnify their understanding of their place in relation to the rest of the world they live in. Students are often asked to “think outside the box” in terms of problem solving. Art programs encourage novelty and nonlinear thinking, skills that can be used not only in academic settings but in the professional world as well.  Let’s break out a canvas or two this Summer for our AMAZING MONARCHS!  It’s Time to Get Physical….Physical Education That Is!  The benefits of physical education in schools are far-reaching, including both increased student physical health and better academic performance. Conversely, a lack of physical activity among youth is known to increase the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. By promoting physical education (P.E.) in schools, educators are in a prime position to help

students establish life-long healthy behavior patterns and boost scholastic success.  Research studies show that a mere 20 minutes of walking affects brain functioning, helping to stimulate students’ minds and improve academic success. Not only has a strong correlation been found between high fitness scores and high academic scores, but children who participate in P.E. are more likely to remain active during after-school hours.  If the Summer already has your Monarch feeling a little sluggish, kickstart their learning with a little walking!  Lights, Camera, Action!  Many students find that theatre helps them develop the confidence that's essential to speaking clearly, lucidly, and thoughtfully. Acting onstage teaches you how to be comfortable speaking in front of large audiences, and numerous other speaking opportunities gant you additional experiences that will prove valuable in both the immediate and distant future.    Most people expect theatre students to exhibit creativity in such areas as acting, design, playwrighting or directing, and many companies do recruit creative thinkers. But employers are not always aware that theatre experience also helps you learn creative problem-solving techniques that are applicable to many jobs. Tell them!  For one example, tech theatre work--building scenery, hanging lights, making props, running the show, and so on--is a particularly good way to learn how to think on your feet, to identify problems, evaluate a range of possible solutions, and figure out what to do.  The same is true of almost every aspect of theatre. Directing. Design. Acting. Playwriting. Management. And more. The point here is that your creative ability, what you've learned about using creative processes to solve problems, can be directly applicable to virtually any job you may have.  Let’s get our Monarchs ready!  Did someone say “Action”?    Let’s Make A Deal!  My favorite business professor once told us, "When it comes to goods and services....there is 'High Quality'...'Great Service'...and 'Cheap'! As a consumer we want all three. However, in the 'Real World' you can only pick two."  Man....was he WRONG!  He didn't know about the Poolville Pre-K Program! If you don't meet one of the qualifying conditions for free all day Pre-K don't worry. Poolville also supports an extremely reasonable tuition for the exact same service! That's right. For less than $1.12 per educational hour your young Monarch will receive an amazing education from a certified teaching professional!  Please hurry. Complete and return the form below.  Spots are filling fast!

Are You Searching For Healthy Summer Meals for Your Kids?  A summer feeding partnership has been created with our educational cohorts at Springtown ISD. The program will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays through June 17th. The drive-thru service begins at 11:00 am and concludes at 12:30 pm. Please visit Springtown Middle School if this opportunity is of interest to you. Incremental details can be found in the flyer featured to the right.       Are You Interested In Volunteering During The 2020-2021 School Year?  We have several amazing volunteer opportunities at the elementary school. If you have a moment and the desire, we would love to partner with you during the 2020-2021 school year.  Details can be found below.  1. The Golden Girls Reading Program = Several amazing women in the community partner with Poolville Elementary School to foster greater literacy skills in our 3rd-grade students each week. This program transpires once a week during the standard school day.  2. R.E.A.D. to Kids Program (Reconnecting Education And Dads) = This bi-weekly initiative helps dads support a reading program for our 2nd-grade students. The program predominantly transpires before the school day begins (7:30 am to 8:15 am).  3. Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) SMART Snacks Program = This powerful PTO program fuels a student's mind and body while raising funds that go directly back to the students. Students learn about and consume healthy snacks to ensure they remain actively engaged mentally and physically throughout the school day. This program transpires once a week during the standard school day.  4. The Friendly First Responders Program = This country is a great country because it was built on the idea that we must help our fellow citizens when they cannot help themselves. Every first responder is a vital component of this country. We should always take the time to thank those that help us, and to be grateful for all those that sacrifice their time to help another in their time of need. This program provides inspiration, mentorship, guidance, and character to our young Monarchs. This program will transpire once a month during the standard school day. If you are a first responder - and would like to volunteer a small amount of your time - we would be honored to recognize and learn from you.  5. Mighty Monarch Boot Camp = Please join us in honoring the brave men and women that faithfully serve our country. This program will transpire once a week after the standard school day. Our faculty members and volunteer Drill Instructors will lead our interested Mighty Monarchs through a series of mental and physical challenges that enhance problem-solving, teamwork, physical fitness, and mental prowess.  We are forever grateful for your time. Please contact Mr. Cheslock at [email protected] if any of these programs interest you.  Are you having difficulties getting your child to go to bed?  Please join us on the Poolville Elementary School Facebook each evening at 8:30 pm. Mr. and Mrs. Cheslock help our Mighty Monarchs explore the benefits of nightly reading. Some of the benefits include, but are not limited to:
