TheGeckoFlexsystemisaflexible,cost-effectivesignalmanagementsystembuiltaroundacom-pactrobust2RUchassis.Itcanbeusedtobuildbroadcast infrastructures that can handle thecompleterangeofmodernsignaltypeswithjustoneenclosuretype.Thechassissupportsevery-thing from audio to video signals, standard- tohigh-definition(SDtoHD)formatsandcoppertofiberbroadcastinfrastructures.

Highly Serviceable

TheGeckoFlexsystemisalsothemostservice-able system available. Its boards, dual powersupplies,fans,networkinterfaceboardandrefer-encedistributioncircuitscanallbeswappedoutfromthefrontofthechassis.Infact,notonlyarethenetworkinterfaceboardsswappable,buttheIPaddressandthechassis’sidentityremainwiththechassis,nottheboard.

Because HD boards and most other functionsprovide industry-standard SNMP monitoring ofsignal formatsandconditions—aswellas theboard’soperation,identification,andstatus—aGeckoFlexchassiscanbeeasilyintegratedintobroadcast and IT monitoring schemes with anoptionalnetworkinterfaceboard.

Reference Distribution Buses

The dual reference distribution buses of theGeckoFlexchassispermitssharingof referencesignalswithinthechassis(Figure1).Unlikecon-ventional systems, the reference inputs are stillavailableonindividualboardsandreferencecir-cuitscanbeswappedout fromthe frontof thechassis to service them. The distributed refer-encecanacceptbilevel, trilevelandAESaudiosyncinputsandfeedallboardsrequiringasimi-larreference—savingonadditionalanalogvideodistributionfunction,chassisandthepowerdis-sipationassociatedwithanold-fashionedrefer-encesystem.

Fiber Ready

Aunique feature of theGeckoFlex signalman-agement platform is a fiber-ready system thatenablesupgradingofallSD/HDdual-rateboardsto fiber inputs or outputs. These highly com-pact inputs and outputs, combined with ourfiber-ready philosophy, makes these upgrades

incrediblyspace-efficient:twofiberconnectionsfitintheequivalentspaceofoneBNCconnector.

Calculating Power Consumption

Todecidewhetheraparticularsetofboardswillfitwithinachassisthatdoesnothavefancool-ing,simplyaddtheratedpowerconsumptionsoftheboardstobemountedinthechassis.Thesepowervaluescanbefoundonthelatestversionsoftheboard’sdatasheets.Pleasenotethatitisnot necessary to include the power neededbythenetworkboard,fansorotherassemblies,justtheboards.

The unique ultra-low powered one rack unitchassis, which is designed for production set-tings, mobile environments and professionalaudioapplications,supportsupto64fullperfor-manceaudiochannelsand2MADIconnections.Sonata supports everything from analog audioover digital audio to MADI, all audio samplingrates, many audio reference level settings andfulldynamicrange.

Full Performance at the Highest Density

GrassValleyoffersanuncompromisedaudioandMADI converter with the highest density avail-able. The 1RU implementation supports up to64audiochannelswith fullperformance25pinD-sub connectors and 2 MADI interconnectsbased on 75 ohm BNC connectors with 100mcable run performance.
