Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery showcases the legacy of Lord Beaverbrook, an entrepreneur extraordinaire who established a world-class art collection.

Curated from this, Masterworks focuses on exquisite and valuable paintings by important old masters, as well as by seminal artists in the history of Canadian art.

Presented here are 75 paintings by world-renowned artists from the fifteenth to twentieth century. Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art 1775 - 2012SEPTEMBEr 27, 2014 - JANUArY 4, 2015

Organized by Whatcom Museum

Vanishing Ice introduces the rich artistic legacy of the planet’s frozen frontiers now threatened by climate change, a phenomenon understood by the public primarily through news of devastating climactic events. The exhibition offers another perspective by providing visitors an opportunity to experience the majesty of sublime landscapes that have inspired artists, writers and naturalists for more than 200 years.

Comprised of 70 works of art, Vanishing Ice will unfold thematically and chronologically, tracing the visual impact of glaciers, icebergs and fields of ice - unique and often fantastic formations - on artists’ imaginations.

This exhibition also examines the connections among generations of artists as they sought to understand and interpret the colour, light, and structure of ice. Through these magical landscapes, visitors will be transported to a world of blue-green hues and extraordinary shapes.
