Timeless masterpiece, RAMUN

From ancient Egypt to modern Europe, this symbol was widely used as an amulet that ensured good luck for students and royal families, exams, good health, royal power, and wisdom. Likewise, the logo of RAMUN symbolizes the company’s longing for people’ happiness and fulfillment of dreams.

The logo also implies the company’s pledge to provide people with quality lighting and proper eye protection. Its design was modeled after an ancient Egyptian symbol at first, and then redesigned by Alessandro Mendini.

Eye of the sun, eye of the moon, eye of the phoenix,

eye of the human god and the godly human.

Eye of the sun, eye of the moon, eye of the phoenix, eye of the human god and the godly human. This symbol was first discovered in the remains of ancient Egypt. From that moment, its stories and legends have multiplied and its elegant lines have been increasingly perfected, although they still remain the few basic elements repeated eternally until today. This symbol represents “light” and is expressed with the colors of the sun, the moon and the phoenix(a mythical bird of the river Nile): gold, silver and red: sunrise and sunset. Precisely measured geometry generates the six parts of this very famous logo, and each part is imbued with mythological meanings.

As a magazine director, Alessandro Mendini was a positive influence on the world of design

Alessandro Mendini is one of the most esteemed architects, theorists and designers in the world. Before he began his career as an architect and designer, he worked as editor-in chief for architecture and design magazines. Casabella, Modo and Domus have kept their international prestige throughout the years, including introducing the world to Italian design as an innovative concept, unlike traditional design. Above all, these magazines had an instrumental role in placing Italian design and manufacturing at the forefront in the world, especially during the 1980s. During Italy’s economic difficulties in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the country was able to count on a relevant number of companies that understood and appreciated design. Throughout his career, Alessandro Mendini has put talented designers in touch with Italian manufacturers, and his commitment to promoting the creativity of designers and the competence of Italian manufacturing was felt all over the world in the 1980s.

The Mendini spirit: forever young

Having started his career with a focus in theory, Alessandro Mendini began practicing the profession of architect and designer after he turning 50. In 1989, he and his brother Francesco Mendini opened Atelier Mendini in Milan. The following projects were made in those years: Torre Paradiso (monument for the port of Hiroshima) and the Groninger Museum in The Netherlands. As an emerging designer, Alessandro Mendini attracted international interest for his experimentation with applying his ideas to actual spaces. At a mature age, he created designs that were fresh, young and innovative. Alessandro Mendini has worked on numerous projects with companies of international renown. His collaboration with Alessi began in 1979, leading to the successful Tea & Coffee Piazza project in 1983. He asked international architects for designs for this project, and 11 silver coffee and tea services were produced. Alessandro Mendini established a tight and fruitful cooperation with many designers and architects. His projects have become part of the world history of contemporary design. Atelier Mendini was the recipient of a 2003 Gold Medal for Italian architecture at the Triennale di Milano, for the Naples subway project. For the Byblos Art Hotel in Verona, the Atelier received the Villegiature Award for “Best Hotel Architecture and Interior Design in Europe 2006”.

World-Famous Designer

Alessandro Mendini,

The hidden ideals in Mendini’s designs

1 Surface Values

On the surface, Alessandro Mendini’s designs come across as humorous, entertaining and extravagant. At the same time, his approach allows people to feel at ease. The transmission of this type of content is uncommon for artwork and design. In depth, his designs conceal a wealth of more essential ideals.

2 Aspiration values

In substance, there are many concepts that Alessandro Mendini proposes, and others he wants to surpass. Seeing that at the beginning of his career, Mr. Mendini was involved in an experimental, radical stream of design, he began counteracting so-called modernist design, whose sole focus was utilitarianism and commercial feasibility. Initially, his design aimed at undermining the concept of utilitarian design. For this reason, Mr. Mendini is also known as an extremist.

3 Acquired values

The ideals that Alessandro Mendini promotes through his work were expressed on a social level in the 1980s. Not only did he oppose traditional design, but also he invented a new type of design. In this sense, his work stimulated a change of paradigms, and created new trends and traditions in the world of design. In other words, his personal views of design were important to Italian society, and were diffused and took root on a global level.

This is why Alessandro Mendini merits to be considered an influential theorist, not only a designer of extraordinary talent. Selection of design by Alessandro Mendini

Beside the intrinsic logic of color and form, Alessandro Mendini’s designs contain a wide range of values from the surface to deep within.

Soul of Artisan

RAMUN has combined artisans’ technical inspirations and expertise, which make the impossible possible in every aspect of its product.

Collaboration

Is there a different LIGHT?

RAMUN is aware of beauty of combination which is the most beautiful and excellent perfection. From there, it gives a birth and becomes splendid beyond all conception. RAMUN is way more beautiful and it has privileged value.

VENINI

Its Beginnings

Venini was founded in 1921 in Murano by Paolo Venini, a Milanese lawyer with a great passion for the art of blown glass.

Intuition

The matching of the centuries-old craftsmanship of the best Murano Master Glassblowers with the innovative creativity of international artists. This fortunate encounter soon bore fruit and is still the reason behind the success of Venini with enthusiasts around the world.

Style, Creativity, Artistic tradition, Passion

These have always been the hallmarks of each creation conceived in the Venini furnace of Murano. True artworks in blown glass, they are the perfect synthesis of centuries-old art contemporary design. From 1921, more than 50 artists of international stature have brought their vision to Venini. Since the beginning we have had, at our side, talents such as Tomaso Buzzi, Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, Fulvio Bianconi, Tapio Wirkkala, James Carpenter, Toots Zynsky, Rodolfo Dordoni, Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Gae Aulenti, Barber Osgerby and Fratelli Campana - people who have, by their contributions, solidified the prestige of Venini in the universe of modern art. These artists have given birth to collections that have been hosted in the most important museums in the world, from the MOMA and Museum of Arts and Design in New York to the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, The Cartier Foundation in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Art Glass (Opalini e opachi)

The Opaque white glass known as lattimo was invented in Murano some time around the middle of the 15th century in an attempt to imitate porcelain, which was then beginning to enter Europe in significant quantities. Opaline glass had its golden age in the 1930s, and gave its name to the Opalino collection created by Venini in 1930-35. It’s made by encasing lattimo glass in one or more thin layers of transparent or colored glass to obtain an intensely vivid and colorful effect. Opaline glass in more subdued colors is often enhanced by inclusions of gold and silver leaf to create an attractive metallic sheen.

CARLO LAVATORI

Carlo Lavatori was born in Italy in the 60s, He then moved to the United States in the 80s where he specializied in photography and filmmaking. Returned to Italy and started working as a freelance photographer. After a long-term relationship with Japan, he established his own studio in Milano, from where he started working for some of the main Italian design companies and design studios. His work has been published and exhibited in many places around the globe.

Articulation Setting (Mechanism)

Articulation Setting (Mechanism) is the product of RAMUN’s proprietary, patented joint technology, and has helped the company realize the design, which no other designer has ever achieved. Articulation Setting (Mechanism) requires advanced technology and extra work to achieve nanometer-level precision. Since the setting supports the base and head, it enables the embodiment of a ring-shaped design and amplifies the beauty of the lamp without bare wires and springs protruding from the end. This setting is designed to provide superb movement, even at the touch of a child’s fingertip, a feature that demonstrates the high level quality and perfection of the lamp.

Intro

Amuleto was a landmark achievement in the history of lamp design because it was the first embodiment of a slim ring design

using a new light source. Similar attempts had been made, but to no avail. This circular lamp is ideally designed to provide students,

designers, and architects with proper eye protection, and the uniformity of its lighting part is the epitome of high-tech at its best. The lamp has a neat, durable structure without wires or springs protruding from the end, proving its unparalleled technology. The wide shiny color range and transparency of material achieve the same level of beauty as stained glass and amplify the benefits of plastics offering homage to plastic materials. Amuleto is the Italian word for amulet, indicating a longing for mankind’s happiness and fulfillment of dreams. Its circular illuminated disk, midsection, and base are symbolic of the trinity of the sun, moon, and earth, respectively.

Value

This lamp is made of three circles. The bottom one is the base, the middle one is the brace and the top one contains the light-crown of LEDs. The shape of the circle is primary and perfect, just as perfect as the number three(Trinity). This spatial composition has a mechanism that allows the light to be placed and pointed in any direction. The illuminated disk is like a halo, a magic circle that is not only functional, but highly alluring. The different colors were chosen to imbue this high-tech and perfectly ergonomic object with expressive force, in an attempt to unite imagination, technology and optical precision in poetic unison. When using this lamp in the dark, one has the feeling of being in the company of a playful object that is not merely useful, but like a magic little friend who protects you, similar to a cheerful robot, a good-luck amulet.

opale

Intro

In collaboration with Venini, opale recreates the essence of the stunning glass craft of Murano in Venice. The curved contour of this lamp can only be made with Venini masters’ artistic spirits. Combining the spirit of traditional Italian art and high LED technology brings delicate color variations to the lamp’s surface ridges and grooves, adding subtle colors like those in Asian porcelains. All our products are completely handmade and embrace the Italian artisans’ delicacy and artistic qualities.

Value

The “opale” lamp has the same shape as the “campanello”, but is much larger. It is made of opalescent Murano glass in Venice in three different colors for RAMUN. Its LEDs diffuse gentle atmospheric light and its presence is that of a sculpture.Hand-blown Murano glass still uses ancient craft techniques that date back to its origins in the Middle Ages, making it one of the most precious and beautiful materials of all Europe. The “opale” lamp is made on the island of Murano in the historical Venini factory, one of Italy’s most illustrious manufacturers. “opale” was produced in a limited series, signed and numbered by Alessandro Mendini.

Candle Light Chime

Full of wit and twinkle in your life

campanello

Intro

Speaking up loudly to get a server’s attention is considered awkward behavior and a breach of etiquette. Therefore, diners are forced to try to make eye contact with servers if necessary. In such circumstances, this product will create an atmosphere that provides a more sophisticated, elegant dining experience. Campanello is not only a unique ornament on the table but also sets a romantic atmosphere with its candlelight feature. Above all, the product is an important object, which, as an ornament with a calling feature, enhances the dining culture. The Italian word for “bell,” campanello was designed based on the bell, and produces the beautiful sound maintained for a thousand years by Marinelli, the master of Italian bells and a supplier of bells to the Vatican.

Value

To call for service in a public place is usually a mechanical operation without charm. You touch the head on an object and soon after, someone serves you. With campanello, the small character we created, patrons are involved in a small performance that takes place right at their table. Guests find themselves facing a small, mysterious creature, and are immediately drawn into the fun of using it. It is a kind of toy for adults, with a head, eyes and a sprightly appearance. The gesture of touching the figurine, hearing its sounding call, and the arrival of the waiter become a mini-spectacle that favors the enjoyment of the moment.

Chandelier

Twinkle poem written by LED’s pieces and metal frame

astro

Intro

Astro chandelier was made as the central chandelier of Alessandro Mendini Hall during the 2010 Design Olympics. The chandelier’s eccentric design and unique, wavy silhouette added Mendini’s flamboyant, idiosyncratic style to the interior of the hall. Using 11,000 RGB LEDs, the chandelier produces light waves reflecting off the ridges of its surface in varying colors, creating an exotic atmosphere.

Value

This large chandelier is based on the rotation of two horizontal squares, the large top and small bottom ones, around a vertical axis. The four oblique surfaces obtained give birth to a dynamic volume. LED strips cover these surfaces, making them glimmer and glow. The steel structure is hidden, but a void can be seen from the underneath, lightening the chandelier and giving it an effect of suspension. The rotation of the lamp expresses and represents the rotation of a celestial body in the universe. Indeed, this chandelier is meant to be a technological and poetic star in outer space. Its movement in the cosmos, along with the oscillation of its light and its colors, is an expression of positive energy that enters into contact with everyone who sees this wonder-lamp.

Eye doctor tested

RAMUN is setting out strict standards to ensure proper eye protection in cooperation with the Eye Care Centers of the world-renowned university hospital. Its cutting-edge technologies and design aesthetic allow the company to stay ahead of the game and get ready for tomorrow.

Objectives of the Study

Our eyes take in loads of information either in everyday life or at work. Furthermore, the fast-growing new forms of digital media have exposed us to the environment that aggravates eye strain. In such circumstances, quality lighting is more important than ever.RAMUN’s amuleto is designed to provide ideal lighting conditions in this digital age. The company proved the quality of amuleto through clinical research by comparing and testing both the objective and subjective aspects of the product.

Details of the Study

Objective Verification

The study is designed to produce objective results using a tear film break-up time (TFBUT) test, a slit-lamp exam, a Schirmer’s test, an intraocular pressure (IOP) test, a refraction test, and a LogMAR test.

Preference Testing

The test evaluates the preference of subjects based on appropriate dimmer control, normal color vision, clear coverage, heat generation, flickering, and light (shadow) intensity.

Subjective Testing on Eye Comfort

The test evaluates the comfort of eyes based on handwriting, fuzziness of pictures, double vision, shining of white paper, effects on the perception of color differences, headache, dizziness, eye fatigue, presence of foreign bodies, itchiness, dry eyes, flickering, blinking, watery eyes, red eyes, burning (heat) sensation in the eye, and tightness in the neck.

RoHS & EMC Approval

RoHS(Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive in EEE) is a directive that restricts the use of hazardous materials, such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), in all electrical and electronic products to promote the use of resources in an environmentally friendly way and efficient waste management in Europe. The scope of the RoHS directive is being extended worldwide. Only RoHS-compliant electrical and electronic products are allowed to be sold in Europe. All components and product sets made by RAMUN have passed strict testing procedures and meet RoHS compliance.

Electromagnetic waves (radiation) refer to electro and magnetic fields (EMF) produced by all electrical and electronic products. Long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves can cause health problems. Many countries around the world have created criteria for evaluating the hazards of electromagnetic fields and set the safety standards for electromagnetic radiation produced by EE products. RAMUN’s products have been designed to minimize electromagnetic waves(radiation) and maintain safe EMF(electro and magnetic fields) levels so that they can be used anywhere in the world. in addition, they were designed to avoid potential electronic shock during the disassembly of products.
