48 FORMREPORT

In the year of our lord 132,000, Captain Kirk and myself,(Mr. Spock) left the Starship Enterprise to visit the Twentiethcentury, and one of those buildings the earthlings call a school. The school we chose was Bacup and Rawtenstall GrammarSchool. After we beamed down we had to select one of themany classes to observe and make notes on. We chose class4B. This is merely a form of classification, indicating that theyare in the fourth year.

Captain Kirkand I found that there were twenty-four humansin this form, ten of them being male and fourteen female.Could this indicate female superiority in the twentieth century?

The captain, known as Mr. Jones by 4B, was kept underconstant observation. We deduced that he was a very kindhuman, who tends to be on the soft side with his charges; hisdeputies are Davin Quinn and Catherine Hargreaves, and theirassistants are Timothy Buckley and Lindsay Pilling.

One of the females is a follower of that ancient religion,Christianity. She admitted attending briefings called ChristianUnion Meetings. Her name is Lynne Smart.

Some of the humans, both male and female, are interestedin a sport called badminton. One female, Lindsay Pilling, playswith a number of other humans in a game called hockey, whichwas popular in this century.

Form 4B have had a bad reputation ever since they wereformed, and I believe this is why they are so near to the head-master's room, in room 22.t, formerly room 22. I found thisnumber coding primitive and illogical.

The males in the form poses serious animal traits, becausemost of them are extremely dangerous and destructive.

The cleverest human was a female, Christine Taylor, who wediscovered constantly retains the top position.

We found their knowledge very limited, but Captain KirkandI believe them, for the most part, to be content and workingfor their '0' levels, the equivalent of our 3 + for juniors.

We must once again return to the 133rd century. Goodbyefor now. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock.

Jane Muskett

Our form genius is Lynne Young. At the recent JuniorSpeech Day, she won the E. Culley History Prize and thesecond form Prize. In the recent fourth form drama competit-ion, 4BRI were placed first, 4GSI were second, 4GSII werethird and 4BRII were fourth.

Mr. Baker, our formteacher, became very ill during February, and so came along our formteacher for the term, Mr. Goward. On behalf of the form I would like to thank Mr. Baker and Mr.Goward for putting up with us.

5S FORM REPORT

Room 56 is now the final resting-place of what must be. thegreatest class of pupils to pass through this School. AI.ast thisbeing our last term as a form together, we are indeed sad atheart at the thought of not seeing everyone together againnext yeart .

Our dramatic talents will no more shine forth to win theDrama Competition: our worthy Basketball team - Tattersall,Wilkinson, Pickup, Southern, Watts - will not win honoursagain for the form. Wilkinson, Watts, Tattersall, (occasionallyPickup) will not strive gloriously as team-mates for the 1sf XIhockey. .

Our form room is room 28, right next to Mr. Gibson'soffice where he can keep an eye on us. The girls' form captainis lynn Greenwood and the vice-captain is Beverley Cunliffe. The boys' captain is Andrew Ems and the vice-captain isDavid Crabtree.

We have a lot of members of our form in various activitiessuch as the U15 football team, hockey team and basketballteam. Eric Neil!and Andrew Nuttall were chosen for the foot-ball town team. Another activity which has become quitepopular amongst our form is badminton.

We hope Tattersalland Wilkinson may carry on playinghockey for Lancashire: Ruth Wain and Wilkinson may continueto bring success for the school badminton team: Hilary Fieldingmay still play her cello in the Lancashire Schools' Orcbestra oradvance to further triumphs in the musical world: Gillian Barkermay continue to play for the Water Prize Band. . . who knowsto what dizzy heights of achievement some of us may aspire(spelling permitting!) I

For now, however, we express our thanks to our esteemedformteacher, Mrs. Wenter (nee Harrison). to the dedicatedform captains. Elaine Dobson and Tattersall. and to all our won-derful teachers throughout the years iri school. To one and allform 5 bid a tearful, . .

5G FORM REPORT 58 FORM REPORT

It has been a hectic year, working for '0' levels which areapproaching rapidly, but also a very enjoyable one. We havehad some well-organised Theatre visits to see performances of"King Henry IV, Part I" and "St. Joan", and many of us sawthe film "To kill a Mocking-bird" at Burnley library. We havealso had some interesting careers talks. Unfortunately thenumber of members taking part in sporting activities hasdecreased this year. This does not necessarily indicate a lossof interest, but I suspect that members have found that theyhave more academic work to do, and have (of course!) directedtheir attentions accordingly.

Of the pupils taking part in school sports, however, P.Trickett and D. Schofield play football for the 2nd XI and H.Parker for the 1st XI. Booth is still running - from what we arenot sure!

Form 5B reside in room 11, the Geography Room, in greatsplendour, surrounded by waste paper, wood shavings, brokenglobes and decaying egg butties.

I can warmly recommend all history students to view thisplace, it provides an excellent example of working conditionsin an early 19th century factory. Despite the harshness of sur-roundings, 5B maintain an excellent standard of work, and atall times give 100% - on the playing fields, that is. There aremany sportsmen (and sportswomen) in the class, amongwhom S. Barnes, N. Bury, C. Wilson, B. Messenger, N. Nuttall, are not prominent.

C, Wilkinson, Lynda Oldham

The class is not particularly academically- inclined, the"swots" of the class being D. Schofield, P. Thorp, C. Wilsonand Amanda Smith. The majority of the class can't add 2 + 2,can't tell irrigation from drainage, and prefer limericks toDylan Thomas. .

Many members of the class have interesting hobbies, N. Burypermanently in the dark during lessons, spends his time else-where equally in the dark, seeing how things develop. S. Barnesis a chess fiend, Thorp collects maps and Nuttall who is athome most of the year regards school as his hobby.. Therehave been rumours that Schofield is taking up hockey, thiscannot be true- he would never tear himself away from hisflower collecting. .

We thank Mr, Greenwood for having been such an under-standing formteacher for the last two years, and the form cap-tains - especially Elaine Roberts who must have been themost reliable register monitor ever.

It is strange to think that /!lost of our .."embers will be sep-arated next September - but 5G will continue to work hardat whatever they do - providing, of course, it is legall

5R FORM REPORT

Our den is room 33 in the hall, and our lion-tamer Mr. Fox-ton, risks life and limb out of the kindness of his heart tobring a little sunshine into our miserable lives.

Many of our savage beasts perform such wonderous tricksas playing hockey for the Lancashire team, the less fierce haveto be content with feeble school teams, for both lions andlionesses. ' . I

Three of our young lionesses mew contentedly in the choirstalls, to the joy of Wild Fred, the gamekeeper,

Intruders are snarled at, but rarely eaten, due to the risk ofcontamination from lower-class lairs,

Unfortunately our beloved tamer is expected to emigrate togreener pastures in the Cotswolds, and we feel his replacementmust be worried by the sharpness of our teeth.

Having just finished trials, we are lo()kingfor a way to celeb-rate - which is quicker, poison or the knife?

"The Odessa File" part two .

(This piece of paper will self-destruct in two minutes)

Recently returned from seeking out war-criminals and neo-nazis in Bavaria, the "Big C" asked me to take on the job ofinvestigating that nefarious organisation the uLVI"'. My reportis as follows:-

Membership

Members are of both sexes"':""" main recruiting source is thenotorious "fifth form gang" although recently there has beena disturbing tendency to admit trainees from rival gangs (n.b.this could have disturbing effects).

Subversive Activities

The casino is situated in a remote part of school I.e. thecoffee room. As we use galaxy counters for chips, it is per-fectly legal. The impact made by the female section was exp-losive and that of the male section, nil. Joint acting heads(but may have got separate bodies) are the two mac's (notplastic) Marion and John.

Suggested Action

Observe the LVI from safe distance and approach withcare - they're lethal!

UVI FORM REPORT

The sun beats down on the corrugated asbestos roof of thecommon-room as our members gather together for the after-noon's activities. Amongst them are the Disco Kid reading hiscomic in the corner thoughtfully, and Meddy can be heardbidding wildly on an ace flush - that's two boxes of England'sGlory she's lost today. The 'A' level trials have now terminatedand everybody once again lapses into their permanent stateof apathy and indifference. In our newly-painted haven, muffledgroans can be heard escaping from the wooden box - ourrecord player that plays off a blunt nail, while members of thesixth form sit pondering as to whether they should adjust thevolume or send for the R.S.P.C.A.

The foregoing is a rough description of our daily routine, but the names have been changed t6 protect the guilty. Wecould write an exceedingly witty, intellectual and fascinatingreport, but seeing as J. Scholes has left, we thought we'dgive it a miss this year.

En fin (who said we couldn't do French) as tradition has it,thanks to all those well-known impresarios , our sixth formteachers - Ohl and Geoff Philipsl - so it's goodbye from usand good luck to theml Goodbyel

MY FAT FRIEND CHARLES by lan Roberts, 3G

Charles was a boy I knew,And he just grew, and grew, and grew,Out of his clothes and shoes he grew,And his mother just didn't know what to do.

He grew so much he filled the house,There wasn't enough room for even a mouse,The walls fell out and the roof fell in,It really made a terrible din.

They took him to a Doctor Moore,But could not get him through the door,Doctor Mooregave Charles a jab,Arid Charles landed on a taxi cab.

He used to be a fan of cricket,But now they could not see the wicket. He floated over the stadium high,.And met his end with a,bang in the s~y. .
