In the last few weeks of Term 3 and at the end of Term 4, we will be conducting our 2015 Transition Program, which will include our the first transition session for the preschool children as well as an information session for parents of preschool children on Monday 1st Sept from 2.00pm - 3.00pm. There will also be another four transition sessions before the end of the year. Our current Grade 2 students will take part in their own Transition Sessions as they will be joining the Senior Unit when the Preschool students are at school, so that they can get to know the teachers and also develop an understanding of the type of work they will be required to do as Grade 3 students next year. The Grade 2 students will be divided into three groups during this time and they will work in a different class each day. Transition sessions are an important process in helping to ensure our children move confidently through their school TRANSITION SESSIONS OUR CAMPING PROGRAM Next week, all of our students will have the oppor- tunity to participate in our Heathcote PS Camping Program for 2014. Our Year 3-6 students will be heading off to Camp Sunnystones in Bacchus Marsh on Monday and they will be returning on Wednesday. Camp Sunnystones is an outdoor adventure camp and the students will be participating in activities such as bush walking, low ropes course, rock wall climb- ing, geocaching, and bush hut building, as well as team building and survival activities. Next Tuesday night our Prep-2 students will be having their school Sleepover. They will be participating in lots of fun games and activities throughout the afternoon. Then the Grade 2 students will work with Mrs Bruechert in the kitchen to prepare the evening meal for everyone. After tea they will hop into their comfy beds and watch a movie together before going off to sleep. The stu- dents will stay at school the next day before being picked up by their parents at the end of the day. What an exciting week we all have in store! PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents and Friends, Welcome to another week of news from Heathcote PS!

In the last few weeks of Term 3 and at the end of Term 4, we will be conducting our 2015 Transition Program, which will include our the first transition session for the preschool children as well as an information session for parents of preschool children on Monday 1st Sept from 2.00pm - 3.00pm. CIVICS AND CITIZENSHIP AWARDS

SENIOR UNIT NEWS

I was on the bus on my way to the Art Gallery. When we got there we had a snack. Then we went inside and watched a slideshow. There were 150 painting. We saw polar bears in different col-ours. Then we saw real paintings. My favourite one was when Mary was getting taken to heaven and the angels helping her. We went to see the Italian Masterpieces exhibition. For lunch we had a cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwich with a bis-cuit and water. Then we did drawings of feet and hands. We used chalk, pencil, paint brush and ink. Then we got back on the bus and went home. Hannah Coleman

On Friday we went to the Victorian Art Gallery and we saw all the art paintings and the Italian Masterpieces. My favourite painting was all of them and my favourite sculpture was the coloured bears. We drew hands and fee. On the bus I sat next to AJ. Levi Boyd

National Gallery Excursion On Friday August 1st we went to the Victorian Art Gallery. We travelled by bus. We saw paint-ings, heaps of paintings. At the entrance to the Gallery there was a water fountain and a water-fall. Then we went inside. It was cool. My fa-vourite was the one with the goat heads. Then we had some lunch. It was yummy. Then we drew a foot and a hand. We were sketching. Then we got back on the bus. It was raining. James Pringle

SENIOR UNIT NEWS

School Fair The Senior Unit will hold the following stalls at the fair: Lucky jars Loom band sales Guess the length of sausage dog Hand print canvases Artistic Heathcote soap Pot pourri & Craft

We are needing donations of jars with assorted items for our lucky jars stall. Some ideas for contents: lollies, stationery items, hair ties, matchbox cars, small toys, etc Gr 3-6 CAMP We leave for Sunnystones Camp at Bacchus Marsh at 9am on Monday morning. Please be at school by 8.45am. The bus will return to school by 3.15pm on Wednesday.

Book Week Planned activities:

Monday August 18th

(2-3pm) All students to attend ‘Blurbs’ performance at Heathcote RSL Hall

Wednesday August 20th

(All day) Grade 3/4 students have been invited to attend an excursion into Bendigo to celebrate Book Week. Further details will be provided shortly. There will be no cost associated with this excur-sion.

Friday August 22nd

9:00am – 9:30am - Whole school ‘Book Week Dress up Day’ parade. Get thinking: What character are you com-ing dressed up as for Book Week? 9:30am – 10:15am – Scholastic Book Fair (Parents are invited to attend the library based book fair display in the library. All students will have had the opportunity to view the books dur-ing the week and there will be opportunities to purchase books with parents during this ses-sion.

Book order forms are attached to this newsletter for parents to view prior to book week. This includes instruction on how to pre-pay for books if you are unable to attend.

Our goal is to sell $1000 worth of books – This will give the school $200 cash back. Check out metre in the General Office to see how close we are to achieving our goal.

Friday August 29th

9:30am – 10:30am - Author Narelle Stone of ‘Quirky Tales’ will be working with the students in the Junior Unit. 1:30pm – 2:30pm – Senior Unit students will attend ‘The Earth Wins’ as part of the Heath-cote Film Festival

LIBRARY NEWS JUNIOR UNIT NEWS

School Fair The Junior Unit is running the following activities at the School Fair: Treasure Map Popcorn Name the Teddy Show Bags We are looking for donations of Popcorn, bags of wrapped chocolates/lollies, eg. Freddos, Smarties, Mini Tim Tams, etc. and pencils, pens, sharpeners, rulers, colouring sheets, etc. We will need helpers to man stalls on the day. Please let the Junior Unit teachers know if you are available for a short time on the day. Take Home Books. A number of books have been returned to the school in poor condition. Please make sure your children look after the take home books and keep them in good condition. Please make sure books are kept in a safe place away from smaller children and pets. Books that are lost or damaged will need to be replaced. Families will be asked to pay for lost book boxes or any damage to take home books. The cost of replacement for the small books is $8 each and book boxes will be $10.

Sleepover Our Prep to Grade 2 Sleepover will be held next Tuesday, 12th August. Children will stay after school, enjoy afternoon tea, activities and dinner before the sleepover. The children sleep in the ‘Gallery’ with staff. Breakfast will be in the Kitchen on Wednesday

morning. Staff and children will make sand-

wiches for Wednesday’s lunch.

Cost is $15 per student. Please return permission slip and payment to school .

Both Milo and Hot Chocolate will be

available. Either will be with a sweet biscuit,

for $1.00 each Friday lunch .

Scout Raffle All Raffle Tickets (SOLD and UNSOLD) must be re-turned school .TOMORROW! If you have lost your tickets, the Raffle organisers require a Statutory Declaration stating that you have not sold the tickets and they have been lost.

LIBRARY NEWS

School Fair Second Hand Book Stall If you have any spare books at home that would be appropriate to donate to the school for our second hand book stall please bring them in.

It would also be great if you could ask around within your family and friendship groups so that we can get as many books together as possible.

Kidney Kar Rally

We have sent home a flyer about an upcom-

ing Car Rally.

The car rally will be travelling through Heath-

cote and stopping at our school for lunch on

Friday, 22nd August.

Our Year 3-6 students will be preparing the

food for the lunch during their SAKGP class

FAIR—HELPERS NEEDED

The School Fair is our Major Fundraising activity for

this year. We are hoping to raise as much as possible to

assist in purchasing much needed shade sails for our

playgrounds.

To help make this a success, we would like all parents to

get involved as much as possible. Some ways you can

help out are: donations to classroom stalls, help set up

and clean up on the day of the Fair, help on one of your

child’s classroom stall.

Attached to the newsletter is a list of stalls that the class-

rooms will be providing. If you can volunteer an hour of

your time (or more if you wish), please write your name

on the Roster sheet and return to school as soon as pos-

sible. “Many hands make light work”

We have a large variety of Library bags available for $5.00 each.

All children must have their own library bag to keep books and readers protected.

Parents will be asked to pay for any books that have been damaged.
