An industry-first technology developed at Loughborough has the potential to significantly cut
nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in diesel engines. Scalable for any sized
engine, the technology extends the operation of the selective catalytic
reduction system to low temperature exhaust conditions.
A risk management system developed at Loughborough
has helped the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs manage more than 200 animal health threats, facilitating decision-making
and the prioritisation of limited resources. The expertise is now
being applied to address bio-security threats worldwide.
Pioneering social policy work has raised awareness of young carers, and contributed to the Care Act 2014 and the
Children and Families Act 2014. A screening tool developed at
Loughborough is now used worldwide to identify and work
more effectively with young carers.
In less than a year we’ve seen a significant increase in applications to the Knowledge Transfer Partnership
scheme, which links small to medium companies to the expertise they need
to grow their business and gain a competitive edge. Up to 67% funding
is available to help them launch products, break into new markets
and embed new skills.
Loughborough Enterprise Network connects a community of students and graduates creating space for
entrepreneurial minds to be inspired, share ideas, develop expertise and
secure funding for start-ups. In three years, there has been a 95% increase
in students engaged in enterprise activities and our graduate incubator
has nurtured 50 businesses, created more than 80 graduate jobs
and 67 internships in six years.
Over 60 LUSEP companies provided invaluable student placement
opportunities last year, including Alcuris which is developing connected healthcare
technologies that help vulnerable adults live fulfilling, independent lives for longer. Manufacturing Engineering
graduate Alex Nash founded the company in 2016, shortly after graduating. Alcuris
has raised £630k investment, which is expected to rise to £1.6m by the end of
the year, creating 10 jobs.

NATIONAL SPORTS PARTNERS Our campus is home to unique national performance centres in cricket, athletics, netball, swimming and triathlon.
SCHOOL GAMES Loughborough University plays host to the UK School Games with over 1,600 of the most talented young people in the UK competing in several sports over four days in a high profile, Olympic-style multi-sport event.

Finances are essential to any institution, ensuring it runs on a daily basis. They allow us to invest in our
staff, enhance our offering to students and develop our facilities. Crucially, they also allow us to invest in plans
and ambitions that enable us to become a stronger institution, create new opportunities, progress and grow.
