Kicktart is a Goverment scheme designed to give young people on Universal Credit work expericnce and progress their careers.

What’s in it for the Employer? • You get to take on one or more young employees (16-24 year olds

who are currently on Univeral Credit) for free!

• The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) covers their salary, Income Tax and National Insurance contributions, and pension for the minimum wage for 25 hours a week .

• Each individual is placed with you for a 6 month period.

• You are under no obligation to keep employing them after 6months,howevertheideaisthatyouwillfindpeople you want to keep employing.

• Thereisflexibilityinthatyoucanchoosetopayahighersalaryorofferlongerhoursorbonusesatyourowncost.

• YoucantakeonpeopleatdifferenttimesorreplaceKickstarterswho are ending their 6 months with new Kickstarters.

• There is £1,500 per Kickstarter to be used to train and support them. (This must ONLY be used for the progression of the Kickstarter - It cannot be used for other business expenditures.)

What’s Kickstart?

Page 3: Astara Training working with the Hospitality Industry

What’s in it for the Kickstarter?• Firstly and most importantly they get a job for 6 months and real

job and industry experience.

• It is a great opportunity for individuals to experience what may be theirfirstjobandlearnwhattheyneedtokeepajoblongterm.

• For those on Universal Credit and/or Job Seekers Allowance this can be life changing.

• Each “Kickstart” employee gets training plus £1,500 of “Wrap Around” support that helps them secure and keep a long term job. This encompasses set up costs for personal professional equipment and the provision of training that will progress the Kickstarter.

• Support that:

• will help them with their long term employability

• allows them to be safe at work

• will help them navigate the workplace

Kickstarter ProcessDecide how many Kickstarter placements you want to take on of each job type and when you

want them to start. Fill out Astara’s online Application form (5 to 7 minutes to complete).

We will submit your application to the DWP.

Wewillbeincontacttoconfirmjobspecifications,paymentdetailsandyouragreement.

When your applications have been approved by the DWP, we will send your Jobs to the Job Centres.

From application to live Jobs is currently taking from 5 to 7 weeks.

The Job Centres will then send you applicants. You conduct interviews , choose who you want to employ, and start their placement

(You do NOT have to take on people you don’t want to).

Astara commences the individual’s course of training (as required).

Kickstart payments for salary, tax and NI are sent from the DWP to Astara, monthly in arrears (allow 6 weeks for the 1st payment), and forwarded on to the employer.

At the end of 6 months, if you wish, you can continue to employ the person (without Kickstart support) or apply to have them become an Apprentice.

How Astara Can Help 1. Applications Employers can directly apply, arrange, administer, and provide all or a part of this training themselves. Alternatively Astara Training as the Gateway can manage all or some of the process and the training provsion.

We understand that time at the moment is at a premium. We will make the application as simple and quick as possible.

Astara Training is a DWP “Gateway”. The DWP has appointed Gateways to support employers and help them navigate the Kickstart system. (You do not have to pay us as a Gateway, as the DWP covers our costs.)

We have written job description templates for all major Front & Back of House roles that you can choose from (or you can tailor your own).

We will monitor the process and walk you through all the required forms to ensure compliance with the aid of a digital progression platform.

We will manage any further applications for subsequent rounds of Kickstarters that you wish to take on.

2. Wrap Around Support & Training Kickstart requires that placements are provided with “wrap around” support to improve their employability skills.

Astara’s trainers have been helping individuals for twenty years. We help young people and the unemployed with vocational qualificationsandthroughApprenticeshipstogetintojobs.

Our experience has taught us what individuals need to help them make a success of a job and start a long term career.

3. Provision of Appropriate TrainingKickstart placements are expected to both learn “on the job” by doing the job, and undertake structured training courses.

Finding, planning and administering training courses is time consuming and training quality can be variable, resulting in placements not obtaining skill that will make them more productive team members.

Moreoverensuringthatthistrainingdoesnotconflictwithworkingtime commitments crates further complications.

Astara with partners Allsup Partnership Ltd have therefore constructed complete rounded packages of courses for each of our pre-populated job descriptions.

Page 7: Astara Training working with the Hospitality Industry

You therefore have the option to choose one of our pre-compiled packages of courses for your Kickstarter or choose a bespoke package, or indeed choose your own suppliers if you so wish.

The only stipulation is that the £1,500 allownace needs to be used directlyforthebenefitoftheKickstarter’sprogressionandshouldasit is public funds, return value for money.
