Assodivers protected the two 380 kV alternate current cable circuits between the VillafrancaTirrena (Sicily) and Scilla (Calabria) power stations. Six (6) power cables and the two (2) opticalcables laid in bundle with two power cables where buried in practice throughout the route. Eachroute was in average 38km and crossed 6 other previously installed services, two gas pipes andfour telecom cables. The installation work was divided between the two circuits (of three cableseach) and those were laid with about one year interval between each other. The first circuit onlywas further split in two campaigns.

The HVDC link was designed for power transmission between the converter stations in Morverde, close to Sagunto, in the Spanish peninsula and in Santa Ponça in Baleares Island (Mallorca). The submarine cable portion of the system included the following components:- Two (2) submarine HVDC cables (poles) at 250kV, approximately 240km in length each;- One (1) MV cable (laid in bundle with a FO cable) of approximately 240km length, with the samesubmarine and land sections with the pole cables. Each of the three cables (two poles, one bundle of MR and FO) was protected using the rock-cutting trenching technique by the post-installation method and sections which remainedunburied due to the morphology of the seabed, were protected by cement mattressesinstallation.

This project is a power link between Italy Mainland to Sardinia via a 500 KVAC circuit, consisting oftwo main cables Pole 1 and Pole 2 and respective anode and cathode cables at both ends of thelink. The execution carried out on two phases in 2008 and in 2010. The scope of work includedthe protection works of all cables from the landing points up to water depths of 680m. Despitethe deep water jetting operations, Assodivers had also performed the utilization of two supportvessels operating in parallel at a certain stage of the project in order to minimize the time that thecable was left unprotected between the laying and the final protection.
