MINUTES: EXECUTIVE MEETING OF 27 SEPTEMBER 1977

3a. Certification Problem

This item has been deferred to the next meeting as Pat Gibson is handling it, but he is urged to report to the Executive on this matter as soon as possible.

b. By-laws

This item deferred to the next meeting. Pat Gibson and Nancy Wiggs are handling this.

4. Chair and minutes for the Executive Meeting of (sorry folks, I forgot t .he date)

Sa. Contract Committee Report

The Contr ac t is signed and is now being sent to the printers. It was~brought up that the printing must be stopped until it has been approved by the membership. Jay will cancel the printing.

Sb. Grievance Committee Report

The Grievance Committee is meeting with the University on Thursday. Kevin Grace's Employee Files arbitration has been held, and the University withdrew all but 2 documents before it. Re Kevin Grace, Job Description arbitration, the parties cannot agree on the questions. The Grievance Committee is consulting a lawyer (Rod Germain)

re drawing up the brief on the questions to give to the arbitrator to decide .

At Step 3: A key-punch operator trainee, who wasn't automatically promoted after 12 months

A staff room attendant was removed and replaced by machines . We_' re grieving under article 13. 09 re maintaining staff facilities

Following this there was a general discussion of Grievance issues.

Sc. Provincial

Capilano College has settled, and SFU probably will--for bonuses rather than rai ·ses. The referendum results: SORWUC money ($200 per month) defeated by 6 votes. · Peopie are needed to help with the AUCE/SORWUC steward . seminar. The Provincial is trying to meet with the Minister on Thursday re the new Colleges Act. An article should be written about how it hurts workers. Lid Strand will inform Jerry Anderson that part-time employees now pay only 25% dues.

Sd. Daycare

The AMS is inter~sted in talking with us. Nancy thought that John Russell would be a contact person.

6 . Union Organizer Report

Jay wants some holidays 19-28 September. He will report to the Treasurer re this. We should have a policy about what to do when organizers take holidays approved by the membership (maybe hire replacements). Jay will leave a message on the answering service while he's gone. Jay wou_ld welcome any and all ideas about a filing system.

7. Correspondence

1. Letter dated September 9/77 from Carol Singer to Pat Gibson re a resignation of someone who .had taken maternity leave and billing us for $1106.83.

2. Memo from N. Baldwin, Cat. Prep. to de Bruijn re a woman who was injured and used up all her sick benefits, so AUCE will be billed for her MSA benefit.

3. Letter to Pat Gibson from Vicki McNeal accepting the at large Grievance Committee position nomination. We received a similar letter from Carole Cameron.

4. Letter re the Vancouver City Savings meeting; this was referred to the treasurer
