Agram Arena Winter 2016 Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age International Tournament

Rulespack

1.) General rules Tournament will be played using the Fantasy Battles: 9th Age rules. All the rules need for playing the game can be found on this link: http://www.the-ninth-age.com/index.php?simple-page/ Rosters and descriptions of your forces to be handed in, have to be in English. The Chief Referee’s decision is final. All competitors should be aware that where any rules interpretation is required, the 9th Age Rules Teamstandard will be upheld! 1.1 Force roster / army list Force roster must be submitted 8 days before the tournament at the latest. If you don’t send your force roster in due time, you will play with an open list in the tournament. Referees will check your roster and if it’s ok you’ll get one copy of it when you arrive at the tournament, and this is the roster you must be using. Nobody but the referees will see the army lists until you get them. This means that you can not change your army once you’ve sent the roster. You can send it via mail at: [email protected]. Preferably the roster should be included in your registration e-mail. Should the player send his army list before November 17th he will receive 1 sportsmanship bonus point to his sportsmanship score at the end of the tournament, in addition if the list is sent without any mistakes he will receive an additional 1 sportsmanship point. The roster must be sent as a text document following this format: [PLAYER NAME & SURNAME] – [FULL ARMY NAME]: [ARMY NICKNAME](it is not obligatory ) First line – Character/Unit name (army role) @ points cost Second line – Magic lore, Magic level, Mundane equipment, Mundane upgrades, Mounts Third line – Magic items TOTAL: [total cost]

1.2 The forces No more than 5.000 points can be spent on the army. Armies must follow the restrictions on army selection as presented in the 9th Age rulebook. All the models in the army must be recognisable as the units they represent. Use of stand-ins, such as toys, models from different armies or the same army but different unit type is not acceptable. Nor can the same type of models represent two different units within an army. Of course, conversions aren't proxies, and they can, naturally, be used. For a unit to be allowed, no less than 70% of models in it must have the appropriate equipment (spears, shields etc.)! Every model in the army must be assembled, glued to the appropriate base and painted in 3 colors! Models not following these guidelines may be removed from the game by a referee.* Everyone must be able to clearly see what all the used models are supposed to be. They must be completely WYSIWYG. All units, consisting of more than one model, must be placed on appropriate movement trays. This includes skirmishers as well! *Examples of what is considered legal and what is not:

1.3 The matches Each player will play 5 games in the tournament. The time limit for each game is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Tournament is played according to the Swiss-type: in the first round, competitors will be matched according to their Army Composition score. After that, competitors will be matched based on their points for Generalship. To match competitors by their Generalship score we will rank them from the highest score to the lowest, VPs difference being the tie-breaker. We will pair the competitors from this ranked list. The two players in first and second place will play each other, the players in third and fourth place will play each other, and so on. Competitors can never play the same opponent twice. For the first round only, the players from the same club won't be paired against each other. Each battle will be fought on a 6' by 4' table. Each table will be a pre-designed battlefield with fixed scenery. Each player is expected to bring the following things (in addition to his army): a copy of the Rulebook, a copy of his Army Book, all the necessary dice and templates and a tape measure. Please note – EACH AND EVERY die you use in the tournament HAS TO HAVE ALL THE FACES CLEARLY DISTINGUISHABLE! All the dice that require more than a glance to see what the roll is are FORBIDDEN, and as such will be removed from the play by the referees. This means that all the dice that are faded or hard to read due to color combinations are not going to be allowed in the tournament. This does NOT include the dice which have a different ‘1’ or ‘6’. Please come prepared with this in mind. Unless the players agree otherwise, movement trays are NOT considered to be parts of their units. Should a player be late for more than 29 minutes for his game, his opponent will score a Massacre victory. The official languages of the tournament are Croatian and English, so it is imperative that you speak Croatian and/or English, otherwise you might not be allowed to participate in the tournament. The prizes are won in the following categories: First, Second and Third Place Overall (Generalship points (0-94 ) + Army Painting (1-17) + Sportsmanship points (3-20) + Other (0-3)); first place for Best Painted Army. There will also be a certificate for the Best General, Best Sportsmanship and a People’s Choice Army award. Note that this year there will be increase in prize value for the Best Sportsmanship award, so keep that in mind – it pays off to be nice.

2.) The Games: 2.1 Generalship points (0-94 points) Generalship points are scored at the end of each game based on the rules of the scenario played. Games are decided as detailed in the Rulebook in the Scoring and Victory Conditions section. 2.2 Deployment and Objectives The games are set up and played as described in the Rulebook using the Classic deployment. The 2nd game of the tournament will be using Hold the Ground objective. The 3rd game of the tournament will be using Breakthrough objective. The 4th game of the tournament will be using Secure Target objective. 2.3 Tables It is considered to be given than if a scenario (Battleline, for example) requires units to be deployed 24" (or any other number) apart, this condition is met automatically. Should players accidentally place their units slightly closer to the enemy than allowed, than the actual measurements are disregarded in favour of this assumption. In other words, nothing that has precisely 24" shooting range can hit an enemy on the first turn without moving slightly (or unless the enemy came closer). The same goes for spells, charges (helped by animosity or magic) etc. with a range of 24".

3.) Army books commentary The following Army Books can be used. Considering we have to put a final date for army list submission the versions of the Rulebook and Army Book documents valid two weeks before the tournament will be used at the tournament. 9th Age Armies: Beast Herds 9th Age Armies: Daemon Legions 9th Age Armies: Dwarven Holds 9th Age Armies: Empire of Sonnstahl 9th Age Armies: Undying Dynasties 9th Age Armies: Dread Elves 9th Age Armies: Highborn Elves 9th Age Armies: Sylvan Elves

9th Age Armies: Orcs and Goblins 9th Age Armies: Infernal Dwarves 9th Age Armies: Kingdom of Equitaine 9th Age Armies: Ogre Khans 9th Age Armies: The Vermin Swarm 9th Age Armies: Saurian Ancients 9th Age Armies: Vampire Covenant 9th Age Armies: Warriors of the Dark Gods

4.) Army Painting points description (1-17 points) The referees will divide all armies into 3 categories: Category C (1 point): The army is painted to a 3 colour minimum. The bases don’t need to be textured or painted. If more than 10% of models in the army fall into this category, then the whole army falls into this category! Bonus points: • The army has movement trays (textured or painted) for all units except single models. (+1) • Extra points for a particularly well painted and/or converted miniature or unit. (+1, +2 or +3) (referee’s decission) Category B (5 points): The army is painted to a tabletop standard (fully painted with 1 highlight, drybrush, washed, inked or dipped). The bases don’t need to be textured but have to be painted. Bonus points: • The army has movement trays (textured and painted) for all units except single models. (+1) • Extra points for a particularly well painted and/or converted miniature or unit. (+1, +2 or +3) (referee’s decision) Category A (10 points): The army is painted to a high standard (fully painted with several highlights, with attention to details). The bases and movement trays have to be textured and painted in a unified style. All models have to meet this requirement in order that the army falls into category A! Bonus points: • Extra points for a particularly well painted and/or converted miniature or unit. (+1, +2 or +3) (referee’s decision) General bouns points: • Army display base (has to fit the theme of the army). (+1 or +2) (referee’s decision) • Army background*. (+1 or +2) (referee’s decision) *This year, we have decided to join the background category with painting as we believe it falls into the same presentational part of the hobby. To score points for army background you must have a description of your army, your units made in character expalining who they are (maybe a little flavour text why are they together, are they a garrison force, a raiding party, etc.). Random pieces of background that cannot be related to your army will not score you points.

WYSIWYG The referees will check if the armies comply to the below presented guidelines. If they do not, offending models/units will be removed. Guidelines: • In a unit more than 70% of the models must have the appropriate equipment. • Command groups must be faithfully represented. • Characters must have the appropriate mundane equipment. Armies will be judged during breaks between games and before the first game on Sunday so please after games leave your armies neatly aranged, along with your name, in order to be judged. If possible arange your army as soon as you register. 4.1) Best Painted Army award The armies with the highest painting scores will be examined once more with a more complex system. The army that scores the most points in this category will win the Best Painted Army award. These scorings will not go into the main tournament scoring. It is just a way to judge the Best Painted Army. Painters not present at AAW can still win the Best Painted Army award if the player playing said army provides us with the name of the painter. We believe in giving credit where credit is due. Judging Guidelines You will be able to get 7,5 points. In all categories marked with * it is mandatory that ALL models in the army are painted to the appropriate standard. E.g. if you leave a single base bare, you will not get any points in the bases category at all, not even if all other bases are extraordinary. So watch out for the weak links in your painting chain. Bases (0-0,5pts)* • 0 pts: Only painted in a single colour, with no additions on them. • 0,2 pts: Bases are textured with one kind of texture or one kind of flock. • 0,4 pts: Bases are textured and/or flocked with water features, snow, bushes, stone cobbles etc... • +0,1 pt: Display base (having a cardboard/wooden/plastic tray doesn’t constitute a display base;

piece of scenery doesn’t constitute a display base; Scenic piece with slots for the miniature bases and/or movement tray is considered a display base for the purposes of this scoring)

Shading and Highlighting (0-1,8 pts)* • 0 pts: There are no shading or highlighting attempts on your models. • 1,2 pts: There are only crude shading or highlighting techniques on your models, like drybrushing. • 1,5 pts: Your models are highlighted and/or shaded. • 1,8 pts: Your models have shading and highlighting with clear shadows present. Details (0-1,8 pts)* • 0 pts: You didn't bother with any details or your details are very untidy. Also, some of your

models have visible moulding lines.

• 1,0 pts: Your details are neatly painted, but not very precise (like painting gems, swords or armour etc. in a flat colour...) but there are no moulding lines.

• 1,4 pts: Your details are very good (like painting gems, swords, or armour etc. in several shades of the same colour, eyes are also painted).

• 1,8 pts: All of your details are stunning (all the eyes and teeth are masterfully painted, facial expressions are clearly visible - please note that just painted eyes do not count as a facial expression).

Conversions (0-0,9 pts) • 0 pts: Your crew has no conversions, it is „straight from the box/clam“. • 0,4 pts: Your crew has some minor conversions, like head or arm swapping. • 0,7 pts: Your crew has, in addition to minor, several complex conversions, involving green stuff. • 0,9 pts: Your crew has 25% of models converted with various techniques involving power tools

like drills or saws as well as green stuff, or are even scratchbuilt. Army Character (0-1,6 pts) – UNIFORMITY* - this is introduced to "punish" the players with borrowed models. • 0 pts: Either your army has no visible unifying colour scheme or one or more units are borrowed

and a clash of painting styles is visible. • 1,0 pts: Your army has a unifying painting scheme (ie, several main colours are used on most troop types). • 1,3 pts: The same as for one point, but also your bases are all done in a style to match your

army. Also, there is a higher degree of character detail present. • 1,6 pts: your bases and colour painting scheme correspond tightly with the background story! Heroes (0-0,3 pts) - this category is introduced so the players can more easily recognize the opponent's heroes. • 0 pts: Your characters don't stand out from the rest of your crew, neither by painting or converting. • 0,2 pts: Your characters do stand out from your crew and special care in painting or creating

bases has been paid to them. • 0,3 pts: Your characters are heavily converted and painted so that they stand out from the rest of the crew. Expert Painting (0-0,3 pts) • 0 pts: Either your crew has no centerpiece model(s) or your painting isn't that great. • 0,1 pts: Your heroes and large models (50mm bases...) are painted or based in such a manner

that one can not see the strokes of the brush. • 0,3 pts: Your entire crew is painted in the above mentioned fashion. Expert Conversions (0-0,3 pts) • 0 pts: Either your crew has no centerpiece model(s) or your converting isn't that great. • 0,1 pts: Your heroes and large models (50mm base) are converted in such a manner that they

hardly resemble the original and/or are scratchbuilt.. • 0,3 pts: At least 75% of your crew is converted in the above mentioned fashion.

5.) Sportsmanship and Rules Questions The primary purpose of this tournament is to get together for the weekend, so that we can play our favorite game and meet other players who share our interests. Finding ‘champion players’ of our games is a byproduct of this, and we’re really much more interested in creating a quality gaming experience for all the people that take part, where they get to play lots of games and meet a whole bunch of new players. This being said we do understand that sometimes even the friendliest of players can lose their cool, especially if the dice have been going against them all day. The most common causes of friction in a game are questions about the rules of the game. Rules questions arise in most games, both because the huge number of variables involved in the game make it just about impossible for the rules manual to cover every situation that might occure, and because different people interpret the rules in different ways. In order to avoid arguments we recommend that you refer to the appropriate rules manual as soon as a question arises. Please note that there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking an opponent if they can show you the appropriate rule or set of characteristics so that you can check for yourself that everything is being done correctly. All we require is that you ask nicely and politely, and that you do your best to sort out any problems yourselves. If you want a Referee to arbitrate a rules question or help you out with a situation both players genuinely don’t understand, then you are free to call one over, and our Referees may intervene if they see an argument. You should also note that the prime duty of our Referees is to make sure that the majority of players in the tournament get a nice friendly game where winning is secondary to having a good time. Anyone who keeps on spoiling a game with picky rules questions or who consistently bends the rules in their favor will be asked to desist or suffer the consequences. Referees will have a simple card system to adjudicate this kind of ruling: • YELLOW: A Yellow Card will be shown to the player(s) and their player number and name logged. This card is a warning. • RED: A Red Card will be shown to the player(s) and their player number and name logged. In addition 5 points per Red Card will be taken from a Red booked player’s tournament points total. Should the player(s) be shown a third Red Card he will be asked to leave the tournament and a reserve player will take his place. The decision of the Chief Referee is final, and no discussion will be entered into. Arguing with the Chief Referee following a decision will be a RED CARD offense.

6.) Sportsmanship points (3-20 points) At the end of your each fight, you will mark each of your opponents with a Sportsmanship grade. This grade should represent how much you enjoyed the game and how friendly your opponent was. This grade should not represent whether you lost or won your game or what did you think of your opponent's list. In other words, this is not a composition score! You will mark each of your opponents with a grade between 1 and 3 (1 being a bad game which included lots of rule problems, 2 being a normal tournament game and 3 being a very fun and easy going game).

Also, at the end of the 5th game, you may (but don't have to) mark one player for an additional point, for being the best game of your tournament. After each player receives all the Sportsmanship points, we will deduct the highest and the lowest mark and add the others to your grand total. Additional points cannot be deducted. Examples:

• If you get 1,3,3,3+1,3, you would remove lowest grade (1), highest grade (3) and add up the rest: 3+3+3+1 =10

• If you get max score from all games (3+1, 3+1, 3+1, 3+1, 3+1), you would remove lowest grade (3), highest grade (3) and add up the rest: 3+3+3+3+5*1 =17 Players who bring all their gaming accessorise* will get 1 additional point. *These include your own dice, tape measure, templates, army book, rulebook, pen and paper

7.) Forbidden moves and Stalling 7.1 Conga lines Conga lines or in other words using units depoyed in a single file is not allowed. If you really need to reform the unit into a single line to ensure a smoother progress of the game call a refferee. 7.2 Stalling and slow play Over the years we had negative experience with very slow players, some of whom have been suspected of intentionaly stalling the game to bring the odds to their favour. Therefore since 2 years ago we have decided to implement a system, that will hopefully intice players to finish their games on time and penalize those that intentionaly stall their games. At the end of each game both players will write down in the player's sheet, in an appropriate cell, the turn in which they finished their game. At the end of the tournament the turns played are converted to turn points (1 turn = 1 turn point). For each turn point bellow 26 the player will suffer 1 penalty point to their tournament points total. A player who has finished all of his 30 game turns (a game that was conceded counts as lasting full 6 turns) will recieve 3 additional points to their tournament points total. *Though we believe that 2.5 hours is ample time to finish a game, we allow for various unpredictable circumstances to prolong that. So we have provided the players with a window of five turn points. Examples: • Player that has finished all his game turns in the tournament receives 3 points • Player that has finish between 26 and 29 game turns receives no points • Player that has finished 25 game turns receives a 1 point penalty • Player that has finished 24 game turns receives a 2 point penalty If you feel that your opponent is stalling feel free to call a referee. Should a referee notice (after being called or on his own) that staling is at hand a yellow card will be issued, if it happens for a second time a red card will follow.

8.) People’s Choice competition In addition to the main Tournament, People’s Choice competition will be held. After the first day

players may nominate their armies for the competition. Each tournament participant (except the competitors in the People’s Chioce competition) can then vote for one of the armies in the competition. The army with the most votes will win. In case of a tie, all the painting judges will also get to vote (their votes count also as only one vote each). The following rules apply: • you cannot vote for your own army (or the army you play with); • if your army was the Best Painted Army winner on one of the previous Agram Arena

Winters, then it cannot compete; • additionally, only armies painted completely by one person will be able to win the

People’s Choice. Of course we will not be able to verify that, but we expect you to be honest;

• painters not present at AAW can still win the People’s Choice if the player provides us with the name of the painter. We believe in giving credit where credit is due. Agram Arena Winter 2016 DECEMBER HORRORS VI

Malifaux International Tournament The Malifaux part of the AAW 2016 is divided into two events: Saturday's December Horrors VI tournament and Sunday's Henchmen Hardcore tournament. On Saturday you will participate in a series of games (3) that make the Malifaux tournament, with one game forming a round. After each game you will play against a different opponent. THINGS YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU You will need to bring with you any gaming material you require to play Malifaux, including: Your painted 100 SS crew miniatures (up to, you can play with less) with their stat cards

(if you are using proxies and don’t have stat cards you MUST have the original book with the stats for your models)

All the markers/counters/tokens you might need Two copies of your Crew Roster Rosters should be printed or written in ink. This rules pack Pen and paper Rulebooks and supplemental texts are not necessary but are useful Deck of cards Reference sheets Tape measure (imperial scale) Superglue (for emergency repairs)

How the tournament works ? In the first round, players will be matched randomly against an opponent. The draw will be orchestrated so you don’t play against a player with the same master (or faction if at all possible). Other than that, pairings for the first round will be random. After round one, pairings will be done by the SWISS format, first against second, third against fourth and so on. The only exception is that you can never play the same opponent twice; should this happen, a referee will step in and sort things out so that the players face fresh opponents of a suitable calibre. It only matters that you play a relatively well-matched opponent. Once your opponent has been determined you will be assigned a table. Each game will be played on a 90cm by 90cm table. Please try to keep the playing area clear of unnecessary things. Each table will be a pre-designed battlefield with fixed scenery. The event organizers will provide no other games equipment and the players must provide all other materials – COUNTERS and MARKERS. Set-up, game length and victory conditions are described in The Rounds rules, while the attached

schedule shows how long each gaming session lasts. This time includes 5-15 minutes ‘warmup’ period. To keep on with the schedule, we would appreciate it if you could play with no time-wasting. Each player will be given a special results card at the beginning of the tournament. Once you’ve finished your game, you must fill in the card and then hand it to the Referee. Your results will then be entered into the tournament database. FORCE ROSTER When you arrive at the tournament you must bring a copy of your Force Roster for the Referee to refer to. You will require a second copy of the roster, which you should keep with you when you are playing. The roster must include all of the models in your crew, their points value (max 100 SS). Please put your name on all copies of the roster you’ll be using. Before and during the round 1 the Referee will check the rosters. Models that exceed some of the limits below, will be removed from play until the end of tournament. If mistake is found later during the tournament - player will lose all his generalship points gained with illegal force. THE FORCES Single Faction With their application players need to send in the name of the Faction they'll be playing with during the course of the Tournament. Each player commits to a specific Faction then follows the normal hiring restrictions and time limit for each round. The ammount of SS spent on the models that can be brought to the tournament (Hiring Pool – see below) is 100. However, a player that opts to bring several Masters MUST play at least one game with each of the masters he brought to the tournament. Hiring Pool Guidelines: • Leaders are not factored into the Hiring Pool Soulstones, but should be listed. • Out of Faction models may be included in a Hiring Pool if one or more special hiring rules would allow those models to be included in at least one Crew the player might build. These models do not cost an additional Soulstone when calculating the Hiring Pool total. However, when generating a Crew list for a Tournament round apply any hiring discounts or increases as per the special rules for those models being included in that Crew. • A player does not need to include models in his or her Hiring Pool if the model does not cost Soulstones (e.g. Summonable models) just as they would not need to include them in a standard Crew’s points. At the start of each Round, a player builds his or her Crew using only the models in his or her Hiring Pool. Any special hiring rules (such as Comes Cheap, Beastmaster, or Special Forces restrictions) are applied to that specific list for the round, including any increases or discounts in Soulstone Costs for hiring the models into that Crew. THE ROUNDS The tournament consists of three rounds (games). Round Time Limit The amount of time provided for each round is based on the Soulstone Size of the Encounter. The

round time begins when all players are at their assigned tables. A 10-minute period occurs at the beginning of each round, during which players complete the Encounter Setup. Players may begin play if they complete set-up prior to the end of the 10 minutes. The TO will announce the end of the Encounter setup period and the start of the timing for the round. Calling Time 10 minutes before the time limit the TO calls “Last Turn” to inform players that they should complete the Turn they are on and not start another turn. At the end of the allotted time, the TO calls “Last Activation” to inform players to finish the current model activation then and then resolve the Turn’s Closing Phase before the end of the Encounter. After this players count their Victory Points (VPs). Strategy and Deployment Selection Strategies are considered to be unique. No player can play the same strategy twice during the course of the tournament. Strategies that are selected for each round are as follows (as per Gaining grounds M2E 2016 Edition): Round 1. (50 SS game) Collect the Bounty Standard deployment Round 2. (50 SS game) Interference Flank deployment Round 3. (50 SS game) Stake a Claim Standard deployment

The games that can last up to 90 minutes. Hiring Crews To Hire Crews fairly during competitive play, each player must pick their choice of Leader for that round and note it in secret on their score sheet. Once this has been done, each player must reveal his or her choice to the other player at the same time. (Remember, during the course of the tournament you must play all your Masters at least once! ) Only then will players continue to hire their Crew as per the rules, up to the required Soulstone Size of the game. Scheme Usage Each round, the player has the option to use Schemes to help achieve victory. Choice of schemes for each round:

ROUND 1 ROUND 2 ROUND 3

Convict Labour Convict Labour Convict Labour

Leave Your Mark Show of Force Exhaust Their Forces

A Quick Murder Occupy Their Turf Covert Entourage

Show of Force Hunting Party Hunting Party

Covert Breakthrough A Quick Murder Inspection

Since the time available for each battle is limited, players are asked to be efficient with

available time. Repeated stalling is a red card offence and if your opponent stalls the game, you are free to

ask a Referee to intervene! Scenery for the battle will be set up by the Referee prior to start of the game and may not be

moved or changed by the players. The referee holds the right to intervene (even if not called

for) if he spots a case of rules misinterpretation (deliberate or not) and to clear the situation. You can use proxies as long as it is clearly visible which model they represent and as long as

you have the ORIGINAL stat card (or have brought the appropriate rulebook with it’s stats. Copies and printouts are not allowed).

THE RINGER In case of an odd number of players, the TO will be the ringer. The ringer can place but cannot win any prizes. THE WARM-UP PERIOD Before the battle commences there will be a fifteen minute ‘warm-up’ period. During this period players must first show their opponent all the models in their crews they are using and their roster. Players are allowed to ask their opponent questions about the forces and the rules that apply to the warriors and heroes in it. After inspecting the forces, both players should discuss the terrain for the battle, and how each feels it will affect the models in play. They can also discuss any other rules issues that they think may come up in the battle. Decisions upon the terrain difficulty are left to players’ mutual agreement. Finally, both players shake hands and then battle can commence. DECIDING WHO WINS THE TOURNAMENT The winner of the Malifaux Tournament will be the player who has the most points (Tournament points + painting points + sportsmanship points). In the case of a tie, players will be ranked by the number of scored points in the Tournament Point category. If still tied, the winner will be the player with the most Victory Points. If still tied the winner will be the one with the most Sportsmanship points (it pays of to be nice). If still tied, the winner will be the player who won their head to head game. If still tied, the flip of the card will decide. Tournament Points (0-19 points) Procedure for working out the Tournament points is simple. What’s more, we’re expecting you to work out the points for each battle and record them on your results card. The player with more Victory Points wins the game. Tournament Points are awarded for each round (game) as follows:

Result ROUND 3 ROUND 4 ROUND 6

Win (more VPs) 6 TP 6 TP 6 TP

Draw (same VPs) 2 TP 2 TP 2 TP

Loss (less VPs) 0 TP 0 TP 0 TP

Forces Painting (0-7,5 points) Painting standards and overall composition of your forces are rated by the referees during Round 1 and 2. The system used is described below. In a nutshell, a player who brings along his crew that is painted, based and characterful will pick up a lot of points in this category, while one who brings hardly painted and non-themed forces will not. All models must be painted and by that we suppose that there are at least three colours on the model. Forces are given marks for painting and

character. Each category has its own set of criteria for determining the mark awarded. The system allows referees to mark the armies that they see by following a set of Guidelines. We believe that the measure of a person’s painting of a force (all subjective opinions aside) is whether they are painted, based, and what degree of detail has been added to the overall effect of those forces. When judging a force, all of the models must fulfill the criteria. The presence of a single model that doesn’t will compromise the score, even if everything else does conform to the standards requested. For example, a single model with an unpainted base would cancel the ‘based’ points for the entire army. Regarding selection, we seek to reward the player who carefully constructs forces that conform to the rules of the tournament and which also retain their own unique flavour and character. We hope the guidelines below will help you to measure the score your own army can expect. During Rounds 1. and 2. referee will come to your table and judge your crew (100 SS ). So please leave your models outside. FORCES PAINTING (0-7,5pts) Bases (0-0,5pts) 0 pts: Only painted in a single colour, with no additions on them. 0,2 pts: Bases are textured with one kind of texture or one kind of flock. 0,4 pts: Bases are textured and/or flocked with water features, snow, bushes, stone cobbles etc... +0,1 pt: Display base Shading and Highlighting (0-1,8 pts) 0 pts: There are no shading or highlighting attempts on your models. 1,2 pts: There are only crude shading or highlighting techniques on your models, like drybrushing. 1,5 pts: Your models are highlighted and/or shaded. 1,8 pts: Your models have shading and highlighting with clear shadows present. Details (0-1,8 pts) 0 pts: You didn't bother with any details or your details are very untidy. Also, some of your models have visible moulding lines. 1,0 pts: Your details are neatly painted, but not very precise (like painting gems, swords or armour etc. in a flat colour...) but there are no moulding lines. 1,4 pts: Your details are very good (like painting gems, swords, or armour etc. in several shades of the same colour, eyes are also painted). 1,8 pts: All of your details are stunning (all the eyes and teeth are masterfully painted, facial expressions are clearly visible - please note that just painted eyes do not count as a facial expression). Conversions (0-0,9 pts) 0 pts: Your crew has no conversions, it is „straight from the box/clam“. 0,4 pts: Your crew has some minor conversions, like head or arm swapping. 0,7 pts: Your crew has, in addition to minor, several complex conversions, involving green stuff. 0,9 pts: Your crew has 25% of models converted with various techniques involving power tools like drills or saws as well as green stuff, or are even scratchbuilt. Army Character (0-1,6 pts) - UNIFORMITY - this is introduced to "punish" the players with borrowed models. (note: if you use an alliance (mercs etc.) – each of the factions forming an alliance can be painted (or based) in a different way). 0 pts: Either your army has no visible unifying colour scheme or one or more units are borrowed and a clash of painting styles is visible. 1,0 pts: Your army has a unifying painting scheme (ie, several main colours are used on most troop types). 1,3 pts: The same as for one point, but also your bases are all done in a style to match your army

(Gremlins on a Bayou style bases, Family in Badlands etc.). Also, there is a higher degree of character detail present. 1,6 pts: your bases and colour painting scheme correspond tightly with the background story! Heroes (0-0,3 pts) - this category is introduced so the players can more easily recognize the opponent's heroes. 0 pts: Your characters don't stand out from the rest of your crew, neither by painting or converting. 0,2 pts: Your characters do stand out from your crew and special care in painting or creating bases has been paid to them. 0,3 pts: Your characters are heavily converted and painted so that they stand out from the rest of the crew. Expert Painting (0-0,3 pts) 0 pts: Either your crew has no centerpiece model(s) or your painting isn't that great. 0,1 pts: Your heroes and large models (50mm bases...) are painted or based in such a manner that one can not see the strokes of the brush. 0,3 pts: Your entire crew is painted in the above mentioned fashion. Expert Conversions (0-0,3 pts) 0 pts: Either your crew has no centerpiece model(s) or your converting isn't that great. 0,1 pts: Your heroes and large models (50mm base) are converted in such a manner that they hardly resemble the original and/or are scratchbuilt.. 0,3 pts: At least 75% of your crew is converted in the above mentioned fashion. SPORTSMANSHIP / FAIR PLAY (0-3 points) This category is included to encourage players to take part in the tournament in the right spirit. At the end of the last game you must secretly rate all the opponents in the following manner, recording the result on your Results Card. Score Description: +1,0 One of the best games I’ve ever played! My opponent was great fun and an example of sportsmanship, and I’d like to play him again. Rules problems? What rules problems? +0,6 A good, fun and/or interesting game. The opponent was friendly and cheerful. There was no need to call the referee, as we solved any rule problem or unusual situation by looking it up in the manuals or rolling a dice for it. +0,2 A nervous, tense game. The opponent was quite argumentative or did not know the rules that well. We had to call the referee several times. +0 What a nightmare! I don’t want to play this person again if at all possible! YOU CAN ONLY GIVE ONE 1,0 AND ONE 0 !!!! Other marks can be given freely. At the end of the Tournament the three scores given will be added to give the final Sportsmanship score. However if there is evidence of tempering with the marks (deliberately raising the score between friends or lowering the scores to a third party by a couple of players etc.) – the referee will subtract all the culprits’ sportsmanship score! All summarized, maximum of points that can be won in generalship category is 19. In forces painting and sportsmanship is 10,5 giving the Grand Total of 29,5 points. SPORTSMANSHIP AND RULES QUESTIONS The primary purpose of this tournament is to get together for the weekend, so that we can play our

favourite game and meet other players who share our interests. Finding ‘champion players’ is a byproduct of this, and we’re really much more interested in creating a quality gaming experience for all the people that take part, where they get to play lots of games and meet a whole bunch of new players. This being said we do understand that sometimes even the friendliest of players can lose their cool, especially if the dice have been going against them all day. The most common causes of friction in a game are questions about the rules of the game. Rules questions arise in most games of Malifaux, both because the huge number of variables involved in the game make it just about impossible for the rules manual to cover every situation that might occur, and because different people interpret the rules in different ways. In order to avoid arguments we recommend that you refer to the appropriate rules manual as soon as a question arises. If the rules do not cover the situation, then flip a card to decide what happens. In other words, a friendly flip should decide any question that cannot be answered by referring to the rules. Please note that there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking an opponent if they can show you the appropriate rule or set of characteristics so that you can check for yourself that everything is being done correctly. All we require is that you ask nicely and politely, and that you do your best to sort out any problems yourselves! If you really want a Referee to arbitrate a rules question or help you out with a situation both players genuinely don’t understand, then you are free to call one over, and our Referee may intervene if he sees an argument. Be warned, however, that our Referee is under strict instructions to give players one of two answers to any question they are asked: 1. He will show you the rule in its relevant place in the rulebook (or FAQ or errata). 2. To flip a card to sort out any rules problems not solved by the above. You should also note that the prime duty of our Referee is to make sure that the majority of players in the tournament get a nice friendly game where winning is secondary to having a good time. Anyone who keeps on spoiling a game with picky rules questions or who consistently bends the rules in their favour will be asked to desist or suffer the consequences. Referee will have a simple card system to adjudicate this kind of ruling: YELLOW: A Yellow Card will be shown to the player(s) and their player number and name logged. This card is a warning. RED: A Red Card will be shown to the player(s) and their player number and name logged. One point per Red Card will be taken from a Red booked player’s Tournament Points totals. The decision of the Referee is final, and no discussion will be entered into. Arguing with the Referee following a decision will be a RED CARD offence. Forfeits and Conceded Games If a player forfeits or concedes an Encounter for any reason, the opposing player picks up a full score of 3 TP/+8 DIF/8 VP for the round, with the forfeiting player receiving 0 TP/-8 DIF/0 VP for the round. A forfeit will not be questioned, as the player may have an emergency or a personal situation arise that he or she may not want to discuss. A player forfeiting an Encounter must forfeit the entire Tournament, losing the opportunity to win any awards for the Tournament itself, but still eligible for any side awards such as for a painting contest. If the forfeit was not emergency related, that player may be excluded from future Official Tournaments based on the TO’s ruling. Forfeiting to boost another player’s score is considered cheating.

BEST PAINTED CREW There will be an additional contest during the weekend, the BEST PAINTED CREW contest. This will be awarded to the army that, in the opinion of all contestants, is the best in terms of painting and character. We do this because our hobby is not just about playing games, but also collecting and painting armies. It’s not uncommon now for players to use armies that include miniatures which they haven’t painted themselves. However, we do want to make sure that the Best Painted Army award goes to the player who painted their forces themselves – the reward for the extra personal effort required to create and play with gorgeous forces. For this reason armies with borrowed models cannot be entered for this competition, after all we want to reward your sacrifice and labour. Only the top 4 armies with the score of over 3,0 in Forces Painting section will be elligable for the competition. If there are more than 4 armies with the score of over 3,0 , the bar will be set higher (only the top 4 armies can enter!). However, if there are less than 4 armies the bar will NOT be lowered. Score of 3,0 is the bottom limit of elligability for the competition. Every competitor in the tournament gets to vote except the competitors whose armies are entered in the BPA competition. On Sunday during lunch break, everyone will get a piece of paper and will vote for his FIRST and SECOND CHOICE army. The winner will be the army with the most first choice votes. If there is a tie, the winner will be the army with the most second choice votes. If there is still a tie, the chief referee will decide the winner. SCHEDULE Saturday: Please note that there is no point queuing up until 9:00 (especially if it’s raining). 10:00 – 11:00 Earliest entry and registration 11:00 – 11:30 Briefing and introduction 11:30 – 13:00 Round 1 (50 SS)

Agram Arena Winter 2016 HENCHMEN HARDCORE

Malifaux International Tournament The Malifaux part of the AAW 2016 is divided into two events: Saturday's December Horrors VI tournament and Sunday's Henchmen Hardcore tournament. On Sunday you will be able to participate in a Henchmen Hardcore tournament. The tournament will be divided into two sessions - heats with maximum of 8 players each. The heats will produce a winner each. Those winners will play the Henchman Hardcore final at the end of the tournament (check the schedule). When registering to the event (e-mail or on saturday morning), you will be able to pick which heat (morning or afternoon) you would like to compete in. Once the maximum number of players in any heat is reached, you will not be able to choose any longer so get your registrations in as soon as possible. Each heat will constitute of three (3) separate games. The arrangement of players into heats will be decided on saturday after the December Horrors VI tournament, so make sure to stick around! THINGS YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU You will need to bring with you any gaming material you require to play Malifaux, including: Your painted 4 model crew lead by a henchman (1+3). You can have exactly 4 miniatures,

not more, not less!

Each game will be played

on a 90cm by 90cm table. Please try to keep the playing area clear of unnecessary things. Each table will be a pre-designed battlefield with fixed scenery. The event organizers will provide no other games equipment and the players must provide all other materials – COUNTERS and MARKERS. Set-up, game length and victory conditions are described in The Rounds rules, while the attached schedule shows how long each gaming session lasts. This time includes 5-15 minutes ‘warmup’ period. To keep on with the schedule, we would appreciate it if you could play with no time-wasting. Each player will be given a special results card at the beginning of the tournament. Once you’ve finished your game, you must fill in the card and then hand it to the Referee. Your results will then be entered into the tournament database. FORCE ROSTER When you arrive at the tournament you must bring a copy of your Force Roster for the Referee to refer to. You will require a second copy of the roster, which you should keep with you when you are playing. The roster must include all of the models in your crew, their points value. Please put your name on all copies of the roster you’ll be using. Before and during the round 1 the Referee will check the rosters. Models that exceed some of the limits below, will be removed from play until the end of tournament. If mistake is found later during the tournament - player will lose all his generalship points gained with illegal force. THE FORCES Hiring Pool Guidelines: Game Size (all Crews MUST BE led by a Henchman, NOT a Master): The game size is 20 Soulstones. All Crews must contain exactly 4 models, no more, no less. Upgrades may be purchased, as allowed by the standard rules of Malifaux. The size of a Crew’s Soulstone Pool is limited by the Cache of the Henchman leading it;

any Soulstones above this amount are discarded. Any Actions, Abilities, or Triggers which summon models are considered to be “blank”

(they may not be used and have no effect on the game, as if they were not printed on the model).

The same Crew must be used in each round of the event. THE ROUNDS The tournament consists of two heats consisting of three rounds (games) and a final game. Round Time Limit The amount of time provided for each round is 45 minutes. The round time begins when all players are at their assigned tables. A 15-minute period occurs at the beginning of each round, during which players complete the Encounter Setup. Players may begin play if they complete set-up prior to the end of the 15 minutes. The TO will announce the end of the Encounter setup period and the start of the timing for the round.

Strategy and Deployment Selection Round 1. (20 SS game) Hardcore Turf War Close deployment Round 2. (20 SS game) Hardcore Turf War Close deployment Round 3. (20 SS game) Hardcore Turf War Close deployment

The games that can last up to 30 minutes (+15 minutes for setup). * Hardcore Turf War Strategy uses the Turf War rules (Core Rulebook pg. 66) with the exception that VP may be scored on the first Turn.

The referee holds the right to intervene (even if not called for) if he spots a case of rules misinterpretation (deliberate or not) and to clear the situation.

You can use proxies as long as it is clearly visible which model they represent and as long as you have the ORIGINAL stat card (or have brought the appropriate rulebook with it’s stats. Copies and printouts are not allowed).

DECIDING WHO WINS THE TOURNAMENT The winner of the Malifaux Tournament will be the player who wins the Grand Finale. The winners of the two heats will fight it out in the Finale. The winners of the heats are players who have the highest number of points after their respective heats (Generalship + Painting + Sportsmanship). In the case of a tie, the winner will be the player who scored the most points in the Tournament Point category. If still tied, the winner will be the player with the most Victory Points. If still tied the winner will be the one with the most Sportsmanship points (it pays of to be nice). If still tied, the winner will be the player who won their head to head game. If still tied, the flip of the card will decide. Tournament Points (0-18 points) Procedure for working out the Tournament points is simple. What’s more, we’re expecting you to work out the points for each battle and record them on your results card. The player with more Victory Points wins the game. Tournament Points are awarded for each round (game) as follows:
