CURRENT CALENDAR
While this amazing Seattle summer seems to continue on, it’s time for us to start our year. It was nice to see so many in attendance at the September Board meeting and get caught up on projects already underway. Look for information now about the Lilly Peabody/Irene Hanley Bulb Sale and the Fr. Thomas Lane Basket Raffle and Bunco Party. This also is a Tour of Homes year: Katherine Meloy members have information on our website you’ll want to see. Other projects coming up include the Marjorie Ryan Wreath and Poinsettia Sale, the St. Bridget’s Paperwhite Narcissus Sale, and the Frances Hoffman Bake Sale.
Our Endowment Fund continues to grow. We are within range of $500,000, and won’t it be wonderful to meet – and then surpass – that amount. We can do it! All of our Circles have as a goal 100% participation in donating to the Fund. Thank you all for your commitment. We hope to have Eric Green, our investment advisor, at an upcoming meeting to talk with us about the Fund and answer any questions you might have.
As I write this, we are looking for a chair (or co-chairs) for this year’s Labor of Love online auction and for next fall’s Celebrate the Children events. We’ve done both now often enough that we have clear instructions and timelines, as well as experienced assistance. If anyone is interested in heading up either (and what a richly rewarding time you’ll have!), please let me know.
It was announced at the September meeting that two circles are going inactive: Holy Angels and Mary Ann Sauvage. We thank these members for all of their many contributions, and hope they will in some way stay connected to the ACC.
Finally, look soon for an all-member survey. It’s been 12 years since a possible name change was discussed, and it seems it’s time to see what you’re thinking about that (and a couple of other things) as we begin to see our 100th anniversary approaching.
As always, there’s more in the newsletter and on the website. I do thank you all for your warm support. I know we’re off to a successful year!
Monica

REMEMBERING “FANTASY FAIR”
If you were an ACC member in the 70s or 80s, about this time of year you probably were knee- deep in
preparations for our annual All Association fund raiser, “Fantasy Fair.” Or, maybe you are one of our
younger members, and you were one of the lucky kids who tagged along with your mom to play games,
have your face painted, and select a prize from the pocket lady’s apron. Either way, whether working or
playing, it was a memorable Saturday outing with the ultimate goal, raising money “for the children.” I’d
love to hear from you as to what you remember about Fantasy Fair. Call me, Sue Lynch, 206-922-2794.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Judy Schroeder/Membership Committee is asking Circles to consider getting a table at the September
PTC meeting or Ministry Fairs in their parish schools/churches. ACC has a Powerpoint presentation
available to have running on a laptop at any presentation or parish event and we still have some
brochures that can be handed out. The more we are seen in the community, as a part of the community,
the more likely people will ask about us, and be willing to join.
2014 IS FULL OF HOPE! We
are aiming for 100% participation
from our ACC members via our
white envelope drive. Your circle
Treasurer has the easy to mail
envelopes. Annual donations to
our Endowment by members will
enable the ACC mission of caring
and advocacy to continue into the
future. As our fund grows and reach-
es it’s near goal of $500,000, we can
then increase annual giving from the
fund to 3%. You can help ACC reach
this goal. Please consider an annual
Endowment Fund gift. No amount is
too small.

Frequently Asked Questions about
Association for Catholic Childhood -
(ACC)
How often do circles meet: It depends on the circle and whether
they are working on a project. Some
circles meet monthly, some quarterly,
some just twice a year.
Bill Hallerman from CCS recently took nine of us from the ACC Board and
Office on a tour of Sacred Heart Shelter. It was inspiring to visit the Shelter and
talk with staff directly. They do such a wonderful job to make the Shelter
welcoming to the families and individuals it hosts, but what was most interesting
to hear about was the work that goes into helping their guests achieve housing of
their own. As a place the ACC helps support, the Shelter’s success is something
we all have a stake in. Here’s information about an upcoming event that you
might want to check out.
