Associate Member The Associate category of membership is for individuals without an architectural license from a US licensing authority. Associate members may indicate that they are Associates of The American Institute of Architects, subject to the AIA bylaws, and may use the title Associate AIA, but not “AIA Associate” or the initials “AIA” alone as a suffix to their name. Associate members may wear the silver AIA pin, but not the gold AIA pin or the emblem. Individuals meeting any of the following criteria are eligible for the Associate category of membership: Interns participating in career responsibilities recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward licensure 1 Work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture Professor or faculty member at a university program in architecture Holder of a professional degree in architecture 2 Associate members, subject to the conditions noted herein, enjoy the same rights and privileges as Architect members. Associate members are required to join both AIA National and AIA Hong Kong (component chapter). The cost of Associate AIA membership is US$249.00 per annum. Membership dues are pro-rated quarterly. Associate members: May not hold more than two seats or one-third of the total seats, whichever number is greater, on section or chapter boards. May not vote on dues for Architect members. May not constitute more than one-third of any component delegation to state, regional and national conventions. Shall not be eligible to serve as a national officer, regional director, component officer, or on the National Judicial Council. Benefits of Membership: Use suffix “Assoc.
