Joseph Robinson, Artist-in-Residence at DukeUniversity, was principaloboist of the New YorkPhilharmonic from 1978-2005 and studied directlywith Marcel Tabuteau,great progenitor of theAmerican School of oboeplaying.
Prior to being chosen to
Martin Kuuskmann is anexciting young soloist, anundisputed bassoon vir-tuoso whose repertoirespans from the earlyBaroque to jazz and con-temporary music. He hasappeared with orchestrasand festivals throughoutEurope, Canada, Japan,Australia, and the U.S.
join the Philharmonic by Zubin Mehta in 1977, Mr.Robinson was a faculty member of the NorthCarolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem andPrincipal Oboe of the Atlanta Symphony underRobert Shaw. An exclusive teacher at the ManhattanSchool of Music for 27 years, Mr. Robinson countsmany important oboists among his former students,including principal players in the Boston and SanFrancisco Symphonies and the Kennedy CenterOrchestra in Washington, D.C.
The New York Times has recently praised MartinKuuskmann’s playing as "dynamic...amazing...gripping...." Kuuskmann has premiered seven newbassoon concertos written especially for him bysome of the leading composers of our time, includ-ing American composer David Chesky, Austriancomposer HK Gruber, and jazz great John Patitucci.
In 2007, Kuuskmann will be joining the faculty atthe Manhattan School of Music.
