What is resource sharing?
The activity that results from an agreement formal or informal among a group of libraries (usually a consortium or network ) to share collection data facilities personnel etc., For the benefit of their users and to reduce the expense of collection developer
WHY WE NEED RESOURCE SHARING?
To promote the free flow of information resources.To ensure better access to information resources.To ensure maximization of information resources.To save resources and avoid duplication of effort To ensure faster provision of information and literature support to the users.
Proposal of resource sharing
Sir Syed has rich collection on online data so they share online data
AIT share their reference material with Sir Syed
They also share their human resources to make an id for AIT students
AIT has a great reference material for researching so they can share
this to Sir Syed to help their users, researcher they can be students,
teachers or library members.
They will share for a particular time period because of the next
semester need that reference material
Sir Syed has a great amount of journal so they can share with AIT
AIT shared their online databases to Sir Syed.
Objective of resource sharing
To build a maximum collection and increase the resources of the
network member library.
To achieve effective bibliographical control of library material for
promotion of flow exchange and use of information.
To insure better and rapid access to information resources and to
maximize its use by network library.
To avoid duplication both in acquisition and processing of library
material.
To provide and avail technical facilities for all housekeeping function
and user service.
Resource Sharing Agreement
I. Definition:
Resource sharing is comprised of transactions by which a library makes its materials or copies of its materials available to the
clientele of another library upon request.
II. Purpose:
The purpose is to obtain, upon request of a library’s primary clientele, materials not available in the local library.
III. Scope and Functions:
General Functions
•Co-operative acquisition of library matter.
•Exchange of duplicate holding.
•Identification of core subject discipline.
•Under the terms of this Agreement, any type of library materials may be requested. Libraries are encouraged to borrow any
materials that circulate outside the library to their own patrons and to be as liberal as possible in supplying materials of all
formats with due consideration to the interests of the
primary clientele.
•Libraries signing this Resource Sharing Agreement must be supplied libraries as well as requesting libraries. Libraries must be
willing to lend if they wish to borrow. The benefits of the agreement are not available to non‐suppliers.
•The Agreement covers resource sharing among those libraries who sign the Agreement, regardless of the method of
transmission of requests and/or materials.
