a. A-line skirt - An A-line skirt is a skirt that is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, giving

the impression of the shape of a capital letter A. The term was first used by the French couture designer

Christian Dior as the label for his collection of spring 1955.

b. straight skirt or pencil skirt/rechte rok - A pencil skirt is a slim-fitting skirt. In its simplest form is a

rectangle of fabric, either long or short, hanging straight from the hips and fitted from the waist to the

hips, with an elastic waistband. It is named for its shape: long and slim like a pencil.

c. wrap around skirt/ wikkelrok - is a skirt that wraps around the waist with an overlap of material

d. layered skirt / gelaagd - A tiered skirt is a type of skirt in which the fabric is layered all the way down the

skirt. It is made of several horizontal layers, each wider than the one above, and divided by stitching.

e. pleated skirt /geplooide rok - a skirt with fullness reduced to fit the waist by means of regular pleats or

folds, which can be stitched flat to hip-level or free-hanging

f. circle skirt or swing skirt / cirkelrok -A circle skirt is a vintage knee-length retro skirt typical of the 1960s.

A circle skirt is a full, flowy skirt that gets its name from the circular shape of the skirt when it is spread

out. This skirt is very full but hangs smoothly from the waist without darts, pleats, or gathers

g. culotte/trouser skirt / broekrok - is also known as a split skirt or divided skirt. A form of divided skirt

constructed like a pair of shorts, but hanging like a skirt.

h. ballerina skirt, is a mid-calf full skirt popular in the 1950s.

i. ruffled skirt/frilled skirt/ruches rok - een rok met stroken -Layered ruffle skirts are fluffy, feminine, and

fashionable.

j. bubble skirt /bubble rok - a voluminous skirt whose hem is tucked back under to create a “bubble effect”

at the bottom.

k. sunray pleated /plissè/accordion skirt - is a skirt with pressed stiff pleats that are narrower at the top

than at the bottom.

l. draped skirt /gedrapeerde rok = is a sophisticated skirt with soft folds

m. yoke skirt / joked rok - A yoke is a fitted band at the top of a skirt that takes the place of a

waistband. Instead of sitting up around the waist, they fit from the waist down over the hip.

n. panelled skirt /rok met stofpanelen - is a skirt with more or fewer panels and widening or narrowing

panels toward the bottom.

o. button-front skirt / rok met knopen aan de voorzijde- it has metal buttons along the front, two front

pockets and two big back pockets.

p. ripped (denim) skirt/geript rok - is a skirt with tear or rips. They were popular in the late 1980s during the

hard rock/heavy metal era and in the 1990s and 2000s.

q. mermaid skirt / zeemermien rok - is a skirt that fits closely to the body through hips, then "fishtails" out

in a flare to the floor.

r. frayed (denim) skirt/ rafelig rok is a skirt with frayed edges
