    PAPER NAME: ADVANCE STRENGTH OF MATERIALS

    4. A rectangular strut 200mm wide & 150mm thick carries a load of 60kN at an eccentricity of 20mm in a plane bisecting the thickness. Find the maximum & minimum stress intensities in the section.

    14. A steel bar of cross-section 35mmx35mm hangs vertically and has a collar rigidly attached at its lower end. Find the stress induced in the bar, when a weight of 4kg falls from a height of 20cm on the collar.

    Also find the strain energy stored in the bar. Take E=200 G pa.
