Newspaper and Magazine Representation

• BBC News

Post colonisation Theory• How we have become a colonised world. Multiculturalism has

now become common in lots of places.

• See different cloths

• Experience different religions

• Understand about other cultures

• Enhances national unity

• Boosts creativity

• It helps people to acquire a sense of tolerance and peace towards other cultures

• We become worldly, and learn about other places and people

MulticulturalismDifficulties • Racism

• Political party like: BNP

• Too many differences in one place might cause problems

• It decreases the country as its culture is diluted

Episodes

Episode 1: where multiculturalism is shown. E.g.: magazines newspapers, TV shows etc…Episode 2: how its represented: good or badEpisode 3: why it is represented in that way and how the media affects it, and if the media pressures political views.

People would know more about how much cultures and traditions there are in London as a Multicultural society and how they are represented in the Media.Observatory and informative documentary.

Target Audience / Channel• Age: 25-37• Jobs: offices, teachers• Ethnicity: British, Arabic's, Muslims • Class: Working class• Gender: Male and Female• People would be interested to watch this documentary as they would enjoy learning

more about the cultures in their country and how the media has an affect in it.

Channel: Channel 4Time: 9pmI have chosen this time and channel because it’s the time where people of the target audience age is more available and its not too early and not too late its appropriate for that age. Also I picked channel 4 because of previous programmes they have done on this subject, they seem to be a very open channel .

Mind map – Topic 2

Uniforms effective or not? Purpose• The purpose of uniforms is for the consumer to identify the employee with the particular

business.• If a consumer needs help, she can immediately identify employees by their attire.Responsibility• You are learning personal responsibility. • An employee who constantly follows the dress code and wears the company uniform shows

pride and responsibility.Presentation• Company employees who all dress the same make the company more presentable. • Consumers appreciate a company that makes the appearance of the store enjoyable.Eliminates Inner-Office Fashion Competitions• No matter how many times dress-code reminders are sent out, inappropriate clothing makes

its way into the office. • Uniforms eliminate the need for reminders about the appropriate length for skirts or slogans

on T-shirts.Save Money• As your weight varies and trends change, seasonal updates to the wardrobe can be costly. A

uniform can save you lots of money, especially if you work long shifts.

Safety Considerations• Uniforms potentially make schools safer. • Unauthorized visitors are easy to spot. • Gangs cannot instigate fights by wearing their gang colours or insignia.• Thefts may decrease because students can no longer wear expensive clothing items.

Social Benefits• Better girls self esteem• Uniforms take away this pressure because everyone is wearing the same clothing.

Facts about England school• The vast majority (82 per cent) of state schools in the UK specify a uniform of some

form that their pupils must wear. Secondary schools are more likely to have a uniform than primary schools (98 per cent compared with 79 per cent).

Uniforms effective or not?

Episodes

Episode 1: Show different types of uniforms and where they are worn. E.g.: schools, jobs, army.Episode 2: The way they can be represented, sex shops: nurse costumes, police, school girl etc…Episode 3: Advantages and disadvantages of having uniforms, including laws and options – interview shops, banks, head teachers etc…

Target Audience / Channel • Age: 15-25• Jobs: offices, shop managers, people who work in stores, students• Ethnicity: English, Pakistan, Arabic’s • Religion: Muslims, Catholics, Jehovah witness. Some might be interested in this documentary because it’s a debatable topic. Brings lots of different views and opinions. This will be an informative, educational and debatable documentary.

Channel: Channel 4Time: 7pmI have chosen this time because I think its suitable for the audience I picked. Simpsons is normally at 6pm so I think it would be good to stay with that same audience. Channel 4 always offers a variety of different documentaries and I think this will be one of them.
