 Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) Program is a new initiative of

 This Program was starte! #y G" in July ,*--&inor!er to a$hieve the target

spe$i'e! un!er .illennium /evelopment Goal (./G) +our of re!u$ing un!er 've

mortality rate (01.2) #y two thir! an! ./G +ive of re!u$ing .aternal .ortality

2ate (..2) #y three 3uarter set #y the 0nite! 4ations #y ,*-1

 JSSK program is a very novel s$heme intro!u$e! #y the G" for attaining targets

un!er ./G +our an! +ive Analysis of !ata provi!e! #y 5o6ana & "$to#er ,*-, ssue& shows that there has #een signi'$ant !rop in #oth 01.2 an! ..2 The

government of the !ay has gone into self $ongratulatory mo!e an! has wi!ely

pu#lishe! its a$hievement in ele$troni$ an! print me!ia The same issue however

also points out that the awareness a#out this program among the pregnant women

living in villages is very less t has also #een pointe! out that in some !istri$ts the

government health o7$ials are also not fully aware a#out the various aspe$ts of the

program There have also #een reports from some !istri$ts of "rissa an! 8ihar of

wrong reporting of #ene'$iaries

 The government thus at this 6un$ture shoul! not #e applau!ing itself a#out the

re!u$e! ..2 an! 01.2 t shoul! rather take in steps to provi!e awarenessthrough me!ia a#out the program among the pregnant women living in the

remotest areas t shoul! also train its health employees a#out the various aspe$ts

of the program The government in $on6un$tion with states shoul! form lo$al

regulatory #o!ies to monitor the proper implementation of program an! $he$k any

malpra$ti$es that might #e prevailing in a parti$ular area This program $an only #e

sai! to #e su$$essful when the poorest an! the most un!erprivilege! have #een
