STYLE OF OPENING SEQUENCE
Opening Sequence
• Start of the Film
Why
• The film continues straight after the opening sequence.
Examples
• Cheaper By The Dozen.
• Mean Girls.
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE & THEORY
The opening sequence is linear as it presented in
chronological order.
It is not a contemporary modular narrative and non
of Cameron’s theory applies to my opening
sequence.
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE & THEORY
You can apply Propps theory to my opening sequence because:
The hero would be Ashley because she is the one that helps Katherine.
The villain would be Katherine’s dad as is the one that abuses Katherine.
The dispatcher would be Katherine as she is the one that calls Ashley to come.
There is no donor.
The helper would be Ashley as she is the one to help Katherine.
The heroine would be Katherine as she needs rescuing by the hero (Ashley).
The false hero would be the dad as Katherine had probably trusted him before all of this.

Lighting
Natural lighting in the
morning, then artificial lighting
and low key lighting for when
the serious storyline comes
up.
Developed.
It is set in the morning so
natural light can be used.
Then low key lighting when
Ashley finds Katherine’s
body. Twelve
Colour
Black for the dark, formal and
professional feel of it.
Developed.
As it is the typical colours
for a drama film, plus red.
Characters
The facial expression would
be serious and the body
language would be tense and
rarely relaxed until the
ending.
Their hair and make-up would
either be professional or
messy, depending on the
situation.
Developed.
The facial expressions and
the body language would
be the same but I put in a
witty sarcastic character as
Katherine’s best friend,
Ashley.
