https://soundcloud.com/user856290913/italian-language-sampleThe English name of my mother language is : Italian.According to Ethnologue my language has 57,700,000 in Italy (European Commission 2012).But it is also spoken in several other countries so that the total number of the speakers is 63,783,247.As fas as concerns the status of Italian it is the national language of Italy.--------The basic word order is SVO as occurs in the two following sentences (the number that accompanies the sentences refers to the number of the original English sentences on page 2 of the assignment):1 La donna mangia il riso ( La donna ,subject; mangia, verb;il riso ,object)1. The woman eats rice4 L'uomo cucina il riso ( L'uomo, subject;cucina, verb;il riso ,object).4. The man cooks rice. This is not always the case in fact another word order VS can occur in sentences like:E' arrivato Francesco (Francesco has arrived). That is the case when we want to put in evidence that Francesco not Giovanni has arrived.--------------------------------The order of the adjective and noun can be AN or NA as occurs in the following sentences:5. Il fiore bello (Il fiore, noun;bello, adjective)5.The beautiful flower.7. La pianta brutta (La pianta, noun: brutta ,adjective)7. The ugly plant. The adjective in Italian can come before or after the noun but it has a different value. In the case of the AN order the adjective has got a descriptive value.(sentence 5)In the case of the NA order the adjective has got a limiting value.(sentence 7)---------------------------------The order of preposition/postposition and noun is PN as occurs in ther following sentences.9. Nella citt ( Nella ,preposition; citt, noun)9. In the city.10.Nel paese (Nel ,preposition; paese,noun)10.In the village.11.Verso la citt (Verso, preposition; la citt , noun)11.Towards the city.12.Verso il paese( Verso ,preposition;il paese,noun)12.Verso il paese. In all the above sample sentences the order PN occurs regularly.----------------------------------------The position of question words in Italian is at the beginning of the sentence:13. Chi mangia il riso? (Chi,question word; mangia ,verb; il riso ,object)13. Who eats rice?14. Che cosa mangia l'uomo? ( Che cosa, question word;mangia, verb;l'uomo, subject)14. What does the man eat?15 .Chi cuoce il pane? ( Chi ,question word; cuoce, verb; il pane ,object)15. Who cooks bread?16.Che cosa cucina Maria?( Che cosa, question word;cucina,verb;Maria,subject)16.What does Mary cook?As appears in the above sentences the question words occur at the beginning of the sentences. But sometimes in the spoken language it happens that a question word occur at the end of the sentence :Michele chi? Michele who? This happens when one of the interlocutors brings a polemic attitude in the discussion.
