ASSIGNMENT

drawings

Floor Plans |

Complete with all spaces and circulation solved.

Add other information such as major openings (like windows), structural grid lines,Begin to generate a structural grid on your plan. Label the grid properly. Remember that the grid spacing is a reflection of the type of structural system you are using and the size of the members.

Basic Facade detailing. At this scale only major structural elements will be shown.

Label all spaces with a key or text at 10pt font size.

Refer to previous assignment on floor plans for all necessary information for plans.

Sections |

Create a longitudinal (long section) and a transverse (short sections) through your project. Select what you feel is the most informative section to explain spatially your project. Do not cut through the elevator or through the middle of a wall.

Primary and secondary structure must be present in the drawings. Foundation and footings should also be drawn.

All wall, roof, and floor thicknesses must be shown.

Column grid should be present, drawn as dashed lines.

Scale 1/8”= 1’

Elevation |

Create an elevation of the Main St. Facade. Be sure to place your elevation within the already created street elevation.

Articulate your facades with as much detail as possible.

Be sure it is clear where your Entry is. This is not drawn with single lines. It has material and dimensions.

Assigned : WED 22nd

Due : Mon 27th

Print plans at 1/8”=1’

on 11x17 or appropriate sheet size

Re-Print or Add any drawings or information as discussed in class

Post Production quality is not required at the moment. Focus on content and information.

Print at 1/8”=1’

Skin Development |

Continue your development and design of the skin. Start work-ing towards fenestrations which make connections to the context, program, and environment.

Things to consider are; windows, doors, louvers, vents, wall panels, skylights, storefronts, curtain walls, slope glazed systems, double skin, and layering.

Make any necessary physical and digital models, diagrams, 2d , 3D, and Axon drawings and wall sections, and exploded axon drawings. Detail is critical here, know your materials that you are using,

Models|

Continue to explore any necessary physical and digital models that help you work through the details of your project.

Take screen shots and draft over the top to explore multiple iterations, and work out major fenestrations.

Start preparing yourself for any material you may need for your final models. For example if you need to purchase a casting material from Reynolds, or if you will need to make arrangements to 3D print or CNC a part.

Narrative Statement |

Begin drafting up a narrative statement of your project 150-250 words.

Be thorough in your statement. Start from the beginning re-search, concept research, and how the concepts were utilized.

2423 /NATATORIUM / LASER CUT MODEL //

ABOVE : Wall Section

SPREAD : Detail Images of Light Penetrating the Cladding

The images show the investigation into the facade panelling and its lighting qualities, it also demonstrates how the facade was manipulated to respond to program, openings, form, and landscape. The model was laser cut flat stock material. The material responded similar to what the actual metal material would do at full scale since the process of laser cutting is the same at a larger scale.

The interior trusses are all completely unique and different. Each truss spans just over 65 feet accross the pool, and on the programatic side of the building there is a 25 foot cantileaver. The trusses not only support an entire glass roof and metal cladding on top, but also all the curtain walls hang from the trusses, so that a glass “sword” curtain wall system could be used to allow for maximum transparency. It was all planned that the truss members would all line up to form straight lines for the swimmers to follow while swimming.
