The allocating of the A-E grade is an overalljudgement based on a range of assessment.

These judgements are not just based onassessment tasks, but include observations, ongoing anecdotal records and othercontextual information known by the

    Policy Standards reporting3.2.2 Years 1 10

Schools will use the following achievement scale to report to parents forstudents in Years 1 10. The achievement of students is to be assessedin relation to syllabus standards.

A OutstandingThe student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of thecontent and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the studenthas achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skillsand can apply these skills to new situations.

B High The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of thecontent and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. Inaddition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skillsto most situations.

The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the mainareas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competencein the processes and skills.

The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the contentand has achieved a basic level of competence in the processes and

    skills

The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in fewareas of the content and has achieved very limited competence insome of the processes and skills

The C description is listed first because ajudgement about sound achievement is a

    logical starting point.

    Starting with C

    11/18

In practice, a Cwould be allocated if the student is

performing reasonably well with the work that hasbeen taught.

Some work may have needed some extra revisionor even some individualised instruction, but thestudent has understood the main concepts andhas demonstrated an adequate level of

    competence.

    C - Sound

  • 8/12/2019 Assessment Reporting Intro

    12/18

In practice, a D would be allocated if the

    students performance is inconsistent.

There will be some gaps or lack of depth in his orher understanding of the work that has been

taught and there is evidence that this has been

occurring across a range of assessments.

    D - Basic

  • 8/12/2019 Assessment Reporting Intro

    13/18

In practice, an Ewould be awarded if there is ahigh level of concern about the studentsperformance. He or she will have experienceddifficulty in most of the assessment tasks. It is likely that the student will only have anelementary knowledge in a few areas of what wastaught.

This should not be asurprise to the parent.

    E - Limited

  • 8/12/2019 Assessment Reporting Intro

    14/18

In practice, a Bwould be awarded if the student

is performing very well with the work presentedand has consistently met the outcomes at a highlevel for the reporting period.

This has been evident across assessment tasks.

    B - High

    15/18

    For example,

the student has achieved very good results in allthe aspects of the mathematics program that hasbeen taught during the semester.

The student demonstrates the confidence, skills

and understandings which are going to enablethem to easily extend their learning in the area.

    B - High
