ASSESSMENT AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IT.

WHAT IS ASSESSMENT?

According to our book assessment is the process of gathering information about children from several forms of evidence, then organizing and interpreting that information.

Assessment is not just for children’s. We can also use assessment with our older population.

WHAT IS IT NEED TO DO ASSESSMENT

To do assessment we can use some scoring rubrics. That are going to help the students to focus on the content of the asssessment.

We can also use portfolios. There are four types of portfolios that we can use. We have the working portfolio, evaluative portfolio, showcase portfolio, and archival portfolio.

WORKING PORTFOLIO

The working portfolio is used to collect examples of student work. You have to do this so that you can collect all the information that you can, because all the information that you get can make a working portfolio later.

EVALUATIVE PORTFOLIO

The Evaluative portfolio is the most commonly understood type of portfolio . This one permits the teacher to make an assessment of the student’s progress. The evaluative portfolio helps the teacher to make a report to the parents.

SHOWCASE PORTFOLIO

A showcase portfolio is used to exhibit the child’s best work. This is usually use to show the parents the accomplishments that he children’s have made. Some teacher use showcase portfolio in the open houses so that the parents cans see what their children's are leaning and doing at school.

ARCHIVAL PORTFOLIOS

The archival portfolios are use in some preschools and elementary schools. This portfolios follow the students form one year to another. It can show to your next teacher how you are doing.

Every that we hear about assessment not always is fair for all the children’s.

Assessment has some problems with the children’s that don’t speak English, most of this children’s are Hispanic.

LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

The language assessment is not fair for every bobby specially for the Hispanic population.

The child with language and communication difficulties may have a context that can be limit the children’s performance in the test.

Because of the language is why some children’s may have a bad score in the assessment test.

In some schools what they are doing is a good change, and if they know that the child dose not speak English. They do the test in Spanish, but that means that the school has to hire some that speak that language.

WHAT THE PARENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ASSESSMENT

They need to know that assessment is a good thing for then, and for the children’s.

That we have to do assessment to know in with areas the children’s are needing help, so that teacher can help then.
