TECHNICAL REPORTKarl Caouette, CPDV.P. Technical

The August 1, 2018 technical meeting was presented by Mr. Matthew Tucci, EIT, Applications Engineer at IPEX USA, LLC. I want to thank Mr. Tucci for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk and share with the LA Chapter “Double Containment Piping Systems”. Mr. Tucci went on to discuss the importance of double containment piping systems for specific applications, as well as the uses that arise from improper installation of the system and its related applicable standards and codes. I want to give a shout out to Mr. Tucci for giving such a great presentation.

Our September 12 topic will be about Firestop Systems and Insulation presented by Matthew Schiavo, Field Engineer with Hilti North America. During the presentation we will learn about:• Understanding what firestop is and why it’s needed. • Know the applicable code requirements related to

firestopping• Understand firestop system testing and listing• Understand how firestop fits into the specification,

design, and construction process

Our October 10 topic will be about Civil Engineering and Plumbing Systems, presented by Jose J. Cruz, PE, MS, QSD of David Evans and Associates. Mr. Cruz will walk us through the crutial parts of plumbing systems as it relates to Civil Engineering utility plans and designs. He will also go through some of the methods used by civil engineers on calculating site and city sewer and utility services. This will be a great topic for all designers and engineers to learn about.

ASPE Convention & Expo Added Bonus! The American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) will co-locate its 2018 Conference with ASPE’s Convention & Expo. A Rainwater Harvesting Pavilion will be featured on the Expo floor, and ARCSA’s popular workshops will be held during the event. Those registering for the ARCSA Conference will also receive free entrance to the Expo, and they will have the opportunity to register à la carte for specific ASPE events.

If anyone has any future topic requests or suggestions, please email me at [email protected].

SB 407 Plumbing Fixture Replacement

1. SB 407 was adopted and the implemented in 2009. One of the last remaining requirements for residential and commercial real property built and available for use on or before January 1, 1994, for replacing plumbing fixtures that are not water conserving, as defined as noncompliant plumbing fixtures. This bill would require, on or before January 1, 2019, that all noncompliant plumbing fixtures in multifamily residential real property and commercial real property, as defined, be replaced with water-conserving plumbing fixtures.

2. The impacts of the replacement plumbing fixtures are:

a. The new minimum pressure requirements of the new plumbing fixtures. The new fixtures may require higher residual water pressure.

LEGISLATIVE REPORTKook DeanV.P. Legislative

b. The available public water system pressure for the existing facility may be lower.

c. Installation of a backflow maybe required. The backflow device losses are up to 20 psi.

First Flush Diversion Systems

The Fox FF600 is a Demand Driven Diversion System for an unroofed wash bay that provides additional stormwater protection by capturing the “First Flush” of rain from the wash area when it starts to rain. As per all the Fox Diversion Systems it is hydraulically actuated from the wash point in the wash bay, opening automatically and diverting all dirty wash water to the underground holding tank for treatment by an Oil Separator. At the commencement of

rain the FF600 automatically diverts the contaminated “first flush” of rain to the underground dirty water holding tank. After diverting the First Flush of rain to treatment the FF600 automatically locks the diversion valve closed sending all rain water to the stormwater course. The FF600 Diversion System is designed for larger wash pads for washing Trucks, Earthmoving Machinery, Boats, Aircraft, Shipping Containers etc.
