PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello: I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiv-ing with Family and Friends. Last month we looked back at what we accomplished this year. I am very

grateful to our fantastic Board and all the commitment they have displayed in doing what it takes to have a great Chapter. I also be-lieve each individual that we in-teract with has benefitted by our presence and dedication to all our Members. I would like to extend my wish for continued health and prosperity during the upcoming Holidays to all our friends and members. We all have much to be grateful for and it’s very easy to look around and see someone dealing with stress and issues that define who we are and how we cope with life. I for one reflect on how I ap-proach life and the stressful issues that are presented in so many dif-ferent forms. Take a minute and reflect within yourself and you will be surprised just what you

discover. There are many people that I admire and strive to be as good and kind as they are, Thank you for being who you are! In closing I look forward to an-other 6 or 7 months as President of the chapter and will continue to improve our standing with the Society and membership. Come join us in any capacity you can it will only benefit you as a person and help us in continuing our goals. Best regards and Warm Holiday Greetings, Mike

TECHNICAL CORNER

Dennis Carapezza gave an exciting discussion in November on Leak De-tection and Sub-Metering for multi-family buildings. While the earth is 80% covered in water, only 0.007% is potable. Water conservation is becoming a necessity. Utilities are the number one cost to owners of multi-family buildings. Water is the number one of the utilities cost. In a recent survey, Philadelphia was ranked #4 in cost of water. Toilets can use as much as 40% of the water consumption in a building. Most code anticipate 150 gallons of water consumption per day per apartment. Buildings without

sub-metering, can consume 200-250 gallons per day per apartment. Build-ings with sub-metering, average 70 gallon per day per apartment. Sub-metering promotes water conservation. The common style water meter

measures a pulse per every 10 gallons water flow. So, the building owner does not know of a problem until the water bill comes. New technology in water metering measures 2100 pulses for every gallon of water. The reading reports to the building owner (BAS) allowing repairs to be done before too much water is wasted. Also, reduces the sanitary sewer bill as well. If you have more question about sub-metering technology contact Dennis at H2O De-gree. Come to the December meeting at Sugar House to hear about PEX piping system from John Dundon of Zurn Company.

LEGISLATIVE NEWS

The ASPE board wishes you and your family a healthy and safe holiday.

What’s happening in the industry?

• CPD (Certified in Plumbing Design) exam is coming up soon in the New Year! Are you ready to take your next step? If so, please visit www.aspe.org/CPDExam to attain the neces-sary information on eligibility, what to study, fees, practice tests and testing centers. The 2018 exam will be conducted on April 5 – 6. Registration is open now through Marsh 22nd.

• A free webinar for ASPE members is being held January 16, 2018. This one-hour webinar will ex-plain piping design methods that can provide faster delivery of hot water to fixtures, improve overall system efficiency, optimize the use of materials, and improve installation efficiency. Registration is open at aspe.org/DesigningPEX.

• ASPE is hosting a two-day workshop in Chica-go. The Basic Plumbing Design workshop will be held on January 25-26 at ASPE’s headquar-ters near Chicago's O'Hare Airport and it will cover design strategies for storm drainage, nat-ural gas, domestic cold and hot water, and sanitary sewer systems.
