By now, all of our members and guests have received an invite

to attend the show along with information on attending the two

seminars that Ovi Muresan, VP Technical has put together. If

you have your CPD and need to get more CEU’s then this is

your chance. Just sign up for the seminars. Remember that

you must have your recertification in by the end of April.

If you plan on taking the CPD exam registration closed March

11th. However, the exam will be held at testing sites across

the country on March 31st and April 1st. The CPDT exam will

be held at testing sites across the country on October 6th and

7th. You can go to aspe.org/CPDT to get more information on

this exam.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the show for fun,

games, food, drink, entertainment. This is a great opportunity

for you to gather knowledge from the products you will see

from our vendor’s booths.

Joseph V. Messina, CPD, FASPE

President

March 22nd is the day of The Atlanta Chapter Product

Show at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia. This is going to be a

bigger show than last year, with more prizes and more

interesting produces to see. There will also be a Putting

Green for those that are golfers and those that are not,

so come by the ASPE Booth and show what you can do.

The rules will be posted and there will be prizes given

out. The Grand Prize for the best score will be a $100 gift

card and a coveted Green Jacket. Along with the Putting

Green, there will also be other prizes to win. You can win

additional prizes by visiting at least 30 booths which will

give you a chance to win three cash prizes of $250, $500

and $1000, but you must be present to win. You must

also be an ASPE member.

The Board is continuing the program to help young

professional to join the ASPE. If you’re a young professional

plumbing engineer less than 35 years old and you want to join

ASPE please let me know we may be able to help.

March’s technical presentation will be “Plumbing and LEED,

Where are we going?” presented by Mike Fox.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions at

[email protected].

Please, email me directly with any questions and/or

suggestions and I’ll try to answer them. If some of the topics

become hot items we’ll have an open forum, and discuss

them at our monthly meetings.

Thanks,

Ovi Muresan CPD, LEED AP

As you know by now, the big event this month is our

Plumbing Product Showcase and your attendance is

very important. We will have two great seminars one

from 1:00 to 2:15 by Jim Allen on Plumbing for High Rise

Buildings and one from 2:15 to 3:30 by Steve Howe on

Natural Gas Design. The Showcase starts at 3:00 pm at

History

The International Code Council (ICC) was established in 1994 as

a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a single set of

comprehensive and coordinated national model construction

codes. The founders of the ICC are Building Officials and Code

Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), International

Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), and Southern Building

Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI). Since the early part

of the last century, these non-profit organizations developed

three separate sets of model codes used throughout the United

States. Although regional code development has been effective

and responsive to our country’s needs, the time came for a single

set of codes. The nation’s three model code groups responded

by creating the International Code Council and by developing

codes without regional limitations; the International Codes.

Code Development

ICC develops construction and public safety codes through

the governmental consensus process. This system of code

development has provided the citizens of the U.S. the highest

level of safety in the world for more than 80 years. The ICC

governmental consensus process meets the principles

defined by the National Standards Strategy of 2000; OMB

Circular A-119, Federal Participation in the Development and

Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity

Assessment Activities (1998). It complies with Public Law

104-113 National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act

of 1995.

In the 2015-2018 Code Cycle, ICC has fully implemented the

cdpACCESS online code development portal for all those

interested in participating in the code development process.

For more information on cdpACCESS and how to submit and

comment on code change proposals, collaborate with peers

and to vote, please visit the cdpACCESS.com.

Ever wonder how the International Codes were

developed and how to comment on these codes. The

following was taken from the International Code Council

(ICC) web page www.iccsafe.org.

Mixing Water Just Got Smarter

The new IntelliStation provides a smarter, safer way to deliver mixed water throughout a commercial and institutional facility. The digital water mixing and recirculation solution from Powers can be integrated into a building automation system (BAS) to allow facility managers complete control of their domestic hot water delivery. The IntelliStation is designed for use in buildings such as hospitals and nursing homes; college, university, and school buildings; multi-family residences; offices; correctional facilities; and military buildings. A high-speed electronically actuated valve allows digital water temperature control to +/-2oF, providing more precision than competitive systems. Another unique feature is the IntelliStation's field programmability. Installation does not require factory preprogramming or the use of a laptop and special software.
