The Asian Women in Leadership Summit (AWLS) event in Mumbai focused on “Board Diversity and Women in Leadership Positions” and provided an interactive platform to exchange views and reflect upon the challenges faced by Asian women in achieving leadership roles and learn from their experiences to create a culture that promotes gender diversity in a sustainable way and leads to the greater success of women in the executive leadership and board level roles.
It is a platform for like-minded professionals (women & men) who feel gender is an important organizational issue which impacts the profitability and the overall health of the institution and also impacts the social setup of a region.
The exclusive one day summit was organized on 15th November 2018 at Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai, India.
Mr. Arvind Singh, CEO, Quest Conferences read the welcome message for the chief guest, eminent speakers and distinguished delegates. The summit was inaugurated with lamp lightening ceremony by our honourable Chief Guest Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis and Mr. Arvind Singh. Mrs. Fadnavis expressed her deep pleasure in being a part of the summit and congratulated the organizers for spearheading the cause of women in the business world. She along with other corporate stalwarts applauded efforts for raising the ante in women empowerment issues.
Later, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis along with Mr. Arvind Singh, Quest group CEO, and Ms. Aashish Kasad, Partner and India Region Diversity & Inclusiveness Leader, EY launched a thought leadership report titled “Is She Your Next leader” by EY.
Talking about the event, the first day revolved around the topic 'How to Retain?' An HR Perspective. Sonali Banerjee, Head – HR India, Imagination Technologies moderated the topic with other key industry experts - Upasana Taku, Founder, Mobikwik, Karla Bookman, Editor in Chief, The Swaddle, Harshita Chaudhary, Corporate Talent Manager, Nestle and Dr Samar Srivastava, Chief People Officer, Huhtamaki-PPL Limited.
The following discussion titled “Twitter Table Talk at AWLS” was piloted by Jack Dorsey, Co-Founder & CEO, Twitter and Maya Hari, VP, Asia Pacific, Twitter. The session was moderated by Vibha Bakshi, National Award winning filmmaker and famous author.

Vinita Gera, Sr. Director and General Manager, Dell EMC, India COE moderated the next captivating panel discussion on Insight Panel: Women in STEM with others stalwarts like Suparna Kapoor, Chief Manager, HAL Management Academy, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Ranjita Ghosh, Global Director of Marketing - Innovation and Transformation Ecosystems, Wipro and Sonali Banerjee, Head - HR India, Imagination Technologies.
Next in line was a thought provoking session on Gender Diversity - The Policy Perspective. The session was moderated by Murali Sivaraman, Chairman, Philips Lighting India Ltd. The panel members were- Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Founder & President, Avtar Group, Aashish Kasad, Partner & India Region Diversity & Inclusiveness Leader, EY and Radha Srivastava, Head - Human Resources, Administration & Safety Health & Environment, Roche Diagnostics India.
Sonia Golani, Executive Committee, FICCI FLO Mumbai headed a fascinating session on Sponsorship & Mentorship- Who, How, When & Where? along with other eclectic panel members including Bhavani Balasubramanian, Diversity and Inclusion Leader, Deloitte India, Vinika Rao, Executive Director, INSEAD EMI, Murali Sivaraman, Chairman, Philips Lighting India Ltd and Megha Tata, COO, Business Television India.
The session was followed by a stirring presentation titled “Gender equality in the Asian workplace: Distant dream or achievable ideal?” by Vinika Rao, Executive Director, INSEAD EMI.
The day concluded with a riveting session on Spotlight Panel: Women for Women- Does it work? The engrossing session was adroitly moderated by Priyanka Sehgal, Vice President, Content & Strategy, TV & Digital, Network 18. The other experts on the panel were - Vandana Chopra, Head of Brand and Communications, KPMG, Veena Rao, Head Product Management, Corporate Banking, Finastra, Tanya Chaitanya, Editor & Chief Community Officer, Femina and Vinita Gera, Sr. Director and General Manager, Dell EMC, India COE.
The summit was conceptualized and organized by Quest Conferences and with the support of UN Women and Knowledge Partners EY and INSEAD EMI. The supporting partners were – FINASTRA, NESTLE, Imagination Technologies, DSM, Mobikwik and YOURSTORY.
