Intelligent Transportation System (ITS):

On-going APT works relevant to AP-IS : ITS (1)


ITS is the application of sensing, analysis, control and communications technologies to ground transportation in order to improve safety, mobility and efficiency;

ITS includes a wide range of applications that process and share information to ease congestion, improve traffic management, minimize environmental impact and increase the benefits of transportation to commercial users and the public;

ITS, which is part of the Internet of Things, includes vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology and incorporates both wireless and wire line communications;

APT has been working actively in V2V and V2I incorporating wireless and wired communication technologies.

Task Group on ITS under APT Wireless Group:

To share information on status of regulation and frequency use of ITS radio system;

To determine the spectrum needs, if any, of ITS radio communications;

To collect information relevant to possible regional harmonization of ITS radio-communications spectrum, taking into account the trends and studies towards spectrum harmonization, applications and standards developments;

To share information on current status of introduction and development of ITS;

To study and discuss useful ITS applications and standardization in region in the areas of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technologies ;

To develop Recommendations and Reports on ITS Radiocommunication.

On-going APT works relevant to AP-IS : RR (1)

Railway Radiocommunication (RR) :

As one of the core infrastructures in railway transportation, Railway Radiocommunication Systems between Train and Trackside (RSTT) provides improved railway traffic control, passenger safety and improved security for train operations;

Harmonization of frequency bands and international standards of RSTT are required;

Best practices on the ownership associated operating and arrangements of the area is important.

Task Group on RR under APT Wireless Group:

To study the operational scenarios and deployment of RR systems;

To share information on RR systems on current status of spectrum usage and national regulatory experiences in the region, relevant technical standards, technical evolving trends, and studies upon RR systems;

To study the system description, architecture, functionality and service requirements etc. of RR systems;

To develop related APT Recommendations, Reports and other documentation resulting from above activities;

To provide information on various potential services and applications, and success factors to deliver services and applications for RR systems.

APT Report on “System Description, Technologies and Implementation of Railway Radiocommunication Systems Between Train and Trackside (RSTT)”published in September 2017.

A number of studies currently on going to provide broadband communication on board train and communication between train and tracksides.
