Opening Prayer Br Patrick led a prayer narrating the life of Br Solomon 1745-1792 who will be canonized on 16/10. Reminding all Lasallians that we are members of a larger family, Br Patrick drew attention to Br Solomon’s life of defending his faith, protecting his integrity, fighting for peace and justice and was made a martyr under the French Revolution. 2. Minutes The minutes of the Second APLEC Plenary Meeting 2015-6 was adopted. 4. Update on Worldwide Lasallian Mission - Br Patrick presented a powerpoint of the Lasallian family worldwide featuring the Mother house in Rome; the Administration Team of 9 headed by Br Robert Schieler, the Superior General; Lasallian Universities which number about 77 worldwide (English medium: USA (6), Philippines (5), Bethlehem (1), Spain (1)). - Br Patrick introduced some of universities for example De La Salle University Manila, Manhattan College NY, Bethlehem University and La Salle University Barcelona, which could be choices for HK students in overseas education. - On LEAD updates: St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia (SJIIM) opened its door to students in Aug 2016; four Lasallians schools in HK saw new principals in September, Ms Chandni Rakesh (LSPS), Mr Tong Wun Sing (LSC), Mr Ching King Bor (SJC) and Mr Simon Tso (De La Salle); statistics were shown of HK Lasallian schools on student enrolment, number of staff, percentage of Catholics and other religions among students in our 8 schools; the Hong Kong delegation to APLEC 9 has been appointed and an Educational Service of the Poor Project is under study.

1. Opening Prayer

Br Patrick led a prayer narrating the life of Br Solomon 1745-1792 who will be canonized on 16/10. Reminding all Lasallians that we are members of a larger family, Br Patrick drew attention to Br Solomon’s life of defending his faith, protecting his integrity, fighting for peace and justice and was made a martyr under the French Revolution.

5. Resource Team Presentation

Ms Amy Poon asked for opinion on the new products which will include a set of 6 folders using the same pattern and designs as the set of bookmarks; there would also be a new set of pens and the design of a Chinese style logo for the HK Lasallian Family was briefly discussed.

6. LYM and LV Review

- The Hong Kong Lasallian Youth Movement 2016 held its AGM on 15 Oct at La Salle College. The HKLYM Executive Committee comprises 6 students with the President from Chan Sui Ki College.

- The HK Lasallian Volunteers held the Facilitators Camp 2016 on 27-28 Aug in La Salle College.

- The Christian Brothers’ Schools Leadership Programme 2016 had its Opening Ceremony and first workshop on 8 Oct at La Salle College. After a welcome note from Br Chris, Br Dodo gave a talk followed by the first workshop. It is planned that one workshop will be held each month on a specific topic.

- To celebrate International Lasallian Days for PEACE, different competitions were held: Primary: Coloring Competition Poster Design Competition Secondary: Writing Competition Video Shooting Competition Deadline: 21 Oct 2016

7. LEAD Vocation Team

- The Inter-Country Vocation Team visited the 5 Lasallian secondary schools in Hong Kong including La Salle College, De La Salle Secondary School, St Joseph’s College, Chong Gene Hang College, Chan Sui Ki College between 11 and 16 Oct 2016.

- The Team is composed of Br Sockie (HK), Br Ranier (Philippines) and Br John (Thailand).

- Their slogan is “Make It Happen” promoting the vocation of Lasallian Brothers to the students.

- With such goal, the 3 Brothers conducted assembly briefing, classroom visits, meeting with staff from the Religious Studies Panel, small group discussion and other interaction with students through ball games, lunch/dinner gatherings with selected students.

8. APLEC 9

- APLEC 9 will be held in Melaka, Malaysia in Dec 2016. - Hong Kong will send 20 delegates to the function including 2 staff from each school, 2

LEC members, Br Patrick and Paul Tam. - Br Patrick showed pictures of the past APLECs down the memory lane

School Events/Issues Date

CSKPS Annual Sports Meet at Kowloon Bay Sports Ground 29 Oct

The school will join a 4-year Computational Thinking and Coding Education Programme as one of the 32 Network Schools. The programme is to design a curriculum for increasing the computational thinking and coding skills of upper primary students. Content of the programme includes teacher development, dissemination of curriculum materials, parent education, student co-curricular activities and a one-off grant to set up a “start-up lab”.

The school has joined a Pilot Outreach Project for HK primary schools organized by The Consulate General of Ireland to let primary students have a taste of Irish culture.

SJC Regular Lasallian Formation for teachers and Moral Civic Education provided by Br Jeff

The Canonization Thanksgiving Mass in honour of Br Solomon to be held in SJC. All APLEC members are welcome.

A Pastoral Care Assistant is engaged to organize and process the Lasallian materials/teachings. Recent works include providing Chinese narration to a powerpoint introducing Br Felix Sheehan’s life.
