Welcome MessageOn behalf of the Studer Group it will be my pleasure to present an overview of our work in helping our partners
transform their services, systems and cultures into High Reliability Organisations (HROs). HROs are organisations recognised as having the ability to work consistently in high risk environments without experiencing significant adverse events; a highly desirable attribute for any healthcare organisation.
As the Healthcare industry enters into an unprecedented period of technological, system and cultural transformation; opportunities exist to address long term issues of quality, safety, cost, experience and access.
To achieve this, we are improving in our ability to learn from other industries. From ‘Ultra Safe’ industries such as aviation we have found valuable tools in addressing: safety, human factors and communication challenges. From manufacturing we have learnt much about flow and continuous process improvement. We increasingly look toward organisational psychology to better manage change. However, the work to date has often been disconnected, inconsistently applied, and stubbornly resistant to spreading beyond established organisational silos; as such and has failed to deliver on its great promise. It is clear that there is much work to be done.
The challenge before us then is to fully integrate our capabilities into a robust culture that is committed to the delivery of seamless, affordable, error free, high quality and highly reliable care.
I look forward to sharing our experiences in working with our partners toward these objectives here in Singapore at the Healthcare Asia Pacific 2018 Conference.

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia. It lies off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator. The country’s territory consists of the lozenge-shaped main island, commonly referred to as Singapore Island in English and Pulau Ujong in Malay, and more than 60 significantly smaller islets. Singapore is separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north and from Indonesia’s Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to the south. The country is highly urbanized, and little of the original vegetation remains. The country’s territory has consistently expanded through land reclamation.
Singapore is both an island and a country, but perhaps its best description is that of city-state. Like the great city-states of the past, it offers civilization and order in the highest degree. Its combination of Western-style development and Eastern-style calm seems to present the best of both hemispheres: It’s a modern metropolis where you feel safe walking the streets, and it’s an Asian business center that’s a model of efficiency. Singapore is also a multicultural city, and close to one-quarter of its population are expatriates or foreign workers from all over the world. Known for its desire to become the technology hub of Asia, Singapore is the most wired country in the region.
