Any individual who meets one of the following combinations of academicand work experience requirements will be eligible to take the examinationfor the Building Energy Modeling Professional certification.

Government-issued or government-recognized license as a professional

engineer or architect and a minimum of 2 years building energy modelingexperience

OR

Minimum of Bachelors degree in engineering or a related field from anaccredited institution of higher learning and a minimum of 5 years energy-related HVAC, architecture, lighting, or renewable energy experience,including a minimum of 2 years building energy modeling experience; up to2 years of graduate studies at an accredited institution of higher learningcan be counted toward the 5 years experience in this category

Examinations are offered at nearly 200 testing centersworldwide. Candidates for the BEMP have 2.5 hours in which to

complete the examination, which contains 115 multiple choiceitems.

Renew Your Certification:

Each certification holder must earn 45 ASHRAE ContinuingEducation units (ACEs) during the three year periodfollowing initial certification or the last renewal. ACEs can beearned through attendance at or participation in ASHRAE-

sponsored and non-ASHRAE-sponsored educationalactivities. The activities must be technical in nature andmust be related to energy modeling.
