1 Chapter (59) sūrat l-ashr (The Gathering) Sister Eman al Obaid Class 19 – Feb 8 th 2020 When you woke up this morning what ayat did you see with your eyes? Every ayah teaches you something. When you see a full moon this is an ayah. Chapter (84) sūrat l-inshiqāq (The Splitting Asunder) 1. When the sky has split [open] 2. And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 3. And when the earth has been extended 4. And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 5. And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] – 6. O mankind, indeed you are labouring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 7. Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 8. He will be judged with an easy account 9. And return to his people in happiness. 10. But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 11. He will cry out for destruction 12. And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. 13. Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 14. Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 15. But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 16. So I swear by the twilight glow 17. And [by] the night and what it envelops 18. And [by] the moon when it becomes full 19. [That] you will surely experience state after state. 20. So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 21. And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? 22. But those who have disbelieved deny, 23. And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 24. So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 25. Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. YOUR RABB You will see the power of Allah swt when you see the moon and when you read Surat al Inshiqāq (The Splitting Asunder). Everything is by the permission of your Lord. Allah swt nurtures you so that you believe in Him to reach the best, to gain abundant rewards. On the Day of Judgement you will see that something that was always there is no longer there – it will be split asunder. The changes on this day are by the permission of your Lord – the sky and the earth has to listen and obey the commands of their Lord. OUR LIFE For us, this is about what we do in our life. As long as we are in this life we are striving to our Nurturer and to our Lord. 84:6 O mankind, indeed you are labouring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. (are) labouring – you are working, you have to work on this path, you will see the light. All the people are working hard going towards their Lord because they need their Lord. But people will meet their Lord differently.

YOUR RABB You will see the power of Allah swt when you see the moon and when you read Surat al Inshiqāq (The Splitting Asunder). Everything is by the permission of your Lord. MEETING YOUR LORD Some people really believe in this life that they will meet Allah swt and struggle and strive to meet their Lord while hoping to meet their Lord. Their Lord is never absent from their mind. They will receive their Book of Records in their right hand. They will go back to their household and they will return with complete enjoyment and happiness.

Happily - In life we are struggling but every time we need to return to our lord – this is our success, our progression.

Others are also struggling in this life and are happy in this life, but they are not feeling that they will one day meet their Lord. They return to their household every day with happiness but they will not have this happiness on the Day of Truth, the Day of Judgement. They didn’t hope to meet Allah swt, they didn’t think they would return to their Lord.

Everyone is struggling and striving – but we need to strive and struggle to return to our Lord. We need to strive because we want to be reformed. Allah swt is watching everything but they are not believing that Allah swt is watching.

84:16 So I swear by the twilight glow

I swear – the twilight is red in colour when it comes in the sky (maghrib). And the moon will be full.

WHY DOES ALLAH SWT SWEAR BY THE TWILIGHT AND THE MOON? Because in life we go through phases. We cannot be complete unless we go through changes. We have to go through the phases of life which is the nurturing from Allah swt. ALLAH SWT IS WATCHING YOU We are running in this life, but when we tire ourselves out just looking at ourselves and believing in ourselves we are not going anywhere. You need to struggle to return to your Lord because He is watching.

Don’t look yourself as you will be deceived.

Don’t look at what you do as you will be deceived

Don’t look at what others have done as you will be deceived Only knowing that Allah is watching you, believing Allah swt is your Lord and you want to meet Him – this is the completeness, but it is a struggle and you have to strive for it. Life is full of phases but we want to go through the phases of life looking at the nurturing of our Lord, not looking at ourselves. We go through the day looking at what we are doing, but this is just deceiving ourselves. We should not watch what we are doing but see that Allah swt is watching you and I am just watching Allah swt. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE? It is not what you see, it is what you believe. 84:20 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, They do not prostrate to Allah swt when the Qur’an is recited. We need to be always prostrating to Allah swt. You need to always be a Slave of Allah swt. Without Allah swt no one can reach to anything. The main thing is belief in Allah swt and this is the main thing that Allah swt looks at in you, your belief in Him swt. ISM AL BASEER, ISM AR RABB You will see these two Names of Allah swt in these ayat. When you don’t believe, Allah swt gives the glad tiding of a painful punishment. Everyone is running but what is important is that you are running to meet your Lord because Allah swt is watching you.

84:25 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. This is the true success and completion. This is progression, this is you progression upwards. The reward is never discontinued, the reward never stops. DON’T YOU WANT YOUR REWARDS TO BE FOR ALWAYS? Don’t you want your running to be for something worthy? This is what the full moon brings to your life. We need to always refresh our faith. We don’t know what to expect that will refresh our faith because only Allah swt know what we need. Only Allah swt can revive our hearts because Allah SWT is perfect in all His Attributes. Allah swt is perfect in all His Actions and we are imperfect. ALWAYS SEE ALLAH SWT ACTIONS, DON’T SEE THE ACTIONS OF THE PEOPLE. Any stress, any sorrow or sadness is because we are not believing that we are a Slave of Allah swt. We are not devoting ourselves to Allah swt but just looking at ourselves and feeling good about what we have achieved. We think we are praying, that we are fasting and doing good deeds by our own efforts. But, actually we are not breathing or eating except by the will of Allah swt. AN HONOURED SLAVE Remember you are a slave, you will remain as a slave, and you die as slave of Allah swt. You will eat like a slave, you walk like a slave, you sit as a slave, you will be resurrected as a slave, but you want to be an honoured slave. An honoured slave doesn’t look at themselves or look at others because everybody is a slave. We cannot bring something or remove anything. Slavery keeps you protected, you have no control.

lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata ʾillā bi-llāh There is no might nor power except in Allah

The moment we say ‘I can’ this is failure. When we say ‘I am the one’ or ‘he is, she can’ it is over. To know you are really a slave you will see the beauty and the perfection of the Names of Allah swt, some of them I don’t even know. THE REMEDY The Qur’an will be a remedy, a cure and a protection removing the sorrow, removing the grief and sadness. Grief is when we are not in the fortress of being a slave of Allah swt. We are sad and stressed because we don’t know who is Allah swt so we panic as we don’t know what to do. True feelings of happiness and enrichment are when you are a Slave of Allah swt and know Allah swt is perfect, then you will not have fake feelings happiness and enrichment. If I don’t know myself, I don’t know my slavery to Allah swt and I don’t know who is Allah swt of course I will panic and there will be so much stress and sadness. I only attach to the promise of Allah swt.

I don’t trust myself but I trust Allah swt

I don’t believe in myself but I believe in Allah swt.

I am grateful to Allah swt Surat al Hashr is teaching you this, that when you look at the actions of the people your perceptions will be messed up. If you are consistent in your life and consistent with what you know then you will gain your rights – you are a slave of Allah swt. Allah is giving, Allah is taking – only hope, fear and attach to Allah swt.

After the ‘hashr’ to different categories of the people, to the shaitan, to the commands which clarifies our minds and gives us a clear vision, Allah swt is telling us about the effect of the Qur’an on the mountain. The end is the surah is about the greatness of Allah swt removing the veils in this life which are all the actions of Allah swt. This is telling you who is Allah swt. AL AZIZ AL HAKIM The surah starts with these two Names of Allah and ends with these two Names of Allah. The actions of the heart and the tongue which you start with and which you end with is the tasbih. To organise your messy life do tasbih, don’t think negatively but believe in the Names Al Aziz Al Hakim. Allah swt will bring everything into it’s correct place by His Izzat. Don’t get stressed and panic because Allah’s power, Allah greatness and wisdom is beyond your own perception. WHY ARE WE HERE IN THIS LIFE?

We are here in this life to know Allah swt

We are here in this life to attach to Allah swt

We are here in this life to be reformed in order to meet Allah swt on the Day of Judgement and in Paradise.

This is our long-term vision but we have to go through the ‘hashr’ of life. We have to go through the ‘hashr’ of life to understand this life as you don’t know anything, and you can’t do anything. Allah swt replaces and takes, so keep doing the tasbih so that you don’t drown in the ocean of desire, drown in deception, shirk or disbelief. I want the safety until I reach my destination. HASHR OF LIFE The ‘hashr’ in our life can drown us when we think, when we talk or when we judge. You will find the most beautiful Names of Allah at the end of Surat al Hashr which you won’t find anywhere else. One Name of Allah swt has so much value and weight. The clarity of Surat al Hashr brings out the best in the people. TRUST Allah swt is dealing with you with His Names and Attributes which are perfect. If you want the perfection believe in Allah swt, trust Allah swt with the most beautiful actions and attributes. One virus can make us sick, one word can hurt us, one little thing can disturb us so why do you trust someone like yourself. Trust the One who is Trustworthy. The Names of Allah swt cannot enter the heart if there are any sins in the heart, if there is any deception in the heart. The Names of Allah swt will dominate and overpower you when they enter the heart. 59:22 He is Allah , other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. 59:23 He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure,

Remove the perfection or ability from anyone except Allah swt. Remove any kingship or control from anyone except Allah swt. The Name of Allah swt Al Malik and Al Qadoos come together in Surat Al Hashr and in Surat al Jumu’ah. Chapter (62) sūrat l-jumuʿah (Friday) 62:1 Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah , the Sovereign,

the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

WHO IS AL MALIK? Al Malik is Al Qudoos and the Name Al Qadoos, no one is allowed to have this attribute orto have this action. Allah is the Most Knowledgeable but you will find people have the knowledge. You have ‘malik’, you can have ‘rahim’, but no one is Al Qadoos.

QADOOS IN THE LANGUAGE. It is said that paradise is a purified garden. A tiny thing can make us dirty. We are not pure by our own-selves, we need water, we need sand, we need istighfar, we need tasbih, we need knowledge, we need to do good deeds, we need a lot of things to keep our purity and our cleanliness. I can easily get dirty when I sit between the people, when I listen to something or when I

see something. You cannot ascribe purity to yourself because you a slave and are dirty. You always need Allah swt. Jannah is the sacred place and a purified place. IMPACT We need to believe in the name Al Qadoos, confirm the name and remove specifically and totally this attribute from anyone else. Only Allah swt can purify. Allah The All Knower will teach knowledge, Allah Ar Rahim will give mercy, but there is no actions and verb for Qadoos, Allah swt is Al Qadoos by Himself, exclusively for Allah swt. There is an impact of this name on you but you have to do it, you don’t get it.

SAFFAT AL QUDSIYA The attribute of Qudoos consists of two things

Purity

Blessed (Barakah) I cannot ascribe purity to myself, I need to ask Allah swt to purify me and I need to do things.

No one is blessed unless Allah swt gives them the barakah. We make du’a asking Allah to make us among the blessed ones. We need Allah to bless us. We need to do things to get the blessings. Allah swt is the Giver to everybody. Al Malik Al Qudoos, the King, the one who ordains, the One Who decrees and judges; the One Who Owns, He is the Most Pure and Blessed. Every rule, every decree, every command, every judgment, everything Allah swt controls is Qudoos. We cannot reach to it or interfere in the judgement or the decree. We may own something but quickly we can get dirty then we need istighfar and it affects our judgement. THE ANGELS The malaika are very pure. Allah swt announces to them that there are human beings which Allah

swt will place on the earth. These human beings are shedding blood which the angels dislike. But the angels said: we declare Your praise and sanctify You?"

The angels remove any imperfection from Allah swt actions. The angels see that human beings are making problems but Allah swt placed them on the Earth so it is perfect. The angels purify their thoughts and themselves for Allah swt. I need to purify myself. Imagine if you dealt with someone so pure you would purify yourself. You would not talk badly or do bad things, you are very cautious about yourself. When dealing with someone who is not so clean, you don’t care or you don’t think. Or when you are dealing with someone who doesn’t talk properly, you don’t want to say things to them which are even worse than what they are saying. The angels are the Slaves of Allah and the inhabitants of the sky. They are continuously purifying themselves for Allah swt. This is the cleanliness so we need to care about our cleanliness which the wudu, the ghusul, cleaning our environment; clean your tongue, purify your mind, purify your heart. This is how you believe in Allah swt Al Qadoos. So don’t think negatively.

Holy Land – this is a land blessed by Allah swt.

20:10 When he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance."

20:11 And when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses,

Musa AS was in a Holy Valley. No one is blessed by themselves. Allah swt puts the blessing in whatever He wills.

Allah swt showed a Slave a blessed place. Allah swt put the barakah around Al Masjid al Aqsa because Allah swt wanted to show Nabi saws the ayat. For Musa AS it is a blessed place because Allah spoke to Him. For Nabi saws, Allah swt wants him to see ayatAllah, so it must be a blessed place.

We need to hear Allah swt ayat and we need to see Allah swt ayat so much. If we don’t ascribe partners with Allah swt and don’t purify ourselves for Allah swt, we cannot hear anything or see anything. If you feel you come to Allah swt not as a slave, how then will Ism Allah Al Qadoos have an impact on you. When you see any blessing you say it is from Allah swt. No one can do anything unless Allah swt blesses them or purify them. This is totally the actions of Allah swt.

Allah Al Qadoos is the Praiseworthy from all aspects. No one is praiseworthy except Allah swt and the praise comes because of ‘purity’ and because of being ‘blessed’. Don’t praise yourself, don’t praise anyone. Nabi saws said not to over praise him because all the praise and favour is to the One Who is Al Qadoos. When you see anything in life don’t think negatively, you need to praise Allah swt because Allah swt purifies, He has ways to purify and bless anything, which is beyond our perception. PURE FROM ALL FAULTS Allah swt is the Most Holy and the Most Pure from any faults. He is the One with no faults, He doesn’t need children, He doesn’t need partners, He doesn’t need anyone, He doesn’t need a companion. All of us, we need, we need people around us, we need a mother and a father, we need companions, we need food and drink. WHY DO WE IDOLISE PEOPLE? If a person has good qualities it doesn’t mean they are ‘qadoos’, they still need cleanliness, they need Allah swt, they need blessings from Allah swt as they are eating and drinking, they are having children, they are having feelings, crying and being happy. The praise of anyone will not affect Allah swt and the dispraise of anyone will not affect Allah swt because Allah Al Qadoos, He has no faults and no imperfections. Everyone else is not ‘qadoos’, they are human beings, they need water. When we look at ourselves as something that doesn’t need anything this is a big deception and a big mistake. We need each other, we need to talk, we need water. Fir’awn deceived himself that he could do anything. However just our emotions themselves show we are just slaves. The smallest of things can make us happy or sad because Allah swt wants to show He is Qadoos. Those who idolise themselves don’t show their humanity to people. For example we know everything about Nabi saws, even what went on in his home so show us he is human. Fir’awn and such people make themselves into idols.

Qadoos is only for Allah swt. No one can affect the good qualities of Allah swt, no one can affect the mercy of Allah swt, affect His knowledge, affect His Compassion or even His pardoning and forgiveness. Even if someone has a good quality they are still under the mercy of Allah swt. Someone can be compassionate one moment, and then the next moment they can be the worst person. No one can own their qualities. No one can even do anything to their qualities. Sometimes you have a quality but you act completely opposite to this quality. Sometimes you don’t have a quality but Allah swt gives you this quality. We sleep, and if we don’t sleep we get sick, so not to sleep is imperfect for human beings. RETURN TO ALLAH SWT Everything with Allah swt is perfect. To return to Allah swt:

We need to make mistakes

We need to get sick

We need to be lost

We need to be hungry Anything can happen to us to make us go back to the slavery. For Allah swt not to sleep it is perfect for Him. For human beings not to make mistakes is a problem for them and Allah swt will replace them because everyone is making mistakes. Seeking perfection is dangerous. No one is Qadoos except Allah swt. when you make a mistake it is good because you know you are not perfect. Perfection does not suit us, that’s why we get stressed and panic. We make mistakes to be Slaves of Allah swt Al Qadoos. And sometimes there is evil in us, no one is pure 100%. WHAT SHOULD WE DO? We should remove any imperfections from Allah swt!

Remove any imperfections from Allah swt!!! I cannot accept any negative speech about Allah swt actions or attributes, Allah swt decree or judgement or anything. At the same time praise Allah swt. So there is both negation of all the imperfections from Allah swt and confirmation by praising Allah swt which suits Him.

ONLY ALLAH SWT GIVES Allah swt creates and He guides so you praise Him. You need to believe everything is from Allah swt.

ONLY ALLAH SWT REMOVES This is what the people of Paradise will say. You cannot remove grief from yourself or anyone else. You cannot make yourself happy or anyone

else happy except if Allah swt makes you happy. Only Allah swt can remove the sadness or the sorrow. We cannot interfere in the actions of Allah swt. My Lord who is taking care of me dealt with me with forgiveness and appreciation. I am not attached to myself or can clean myself or appreciate myself. When I believe Allah swt forgives and appreciates my good deeds Allah removes the sadness and the grief. Ism Allah Al Qadoos has so much impact on our life:

To praise Allah swt has so much impact on my life

To ask Allah swt for forgiveness has so much impact on my life You will long to meet Allah swt and you are poor to His Lordship and you are poor to His forgiveness and you are poor to His appreciation of your good deeds. You have all the hope, all the love and all the fear belonging to the One for Whom it is suitable.

In the ruku and in the sujood you will say this du’a – not when you are standing, but when you are near to Allah swt. Your bowing shows how much you exalt Allah swt, how much you magnify Allah swt. And your sujood shows your submission to Allah swt and you are near to Allah swt so you will invoke Allah swt. You magnify Allah swt to have put me in

this position, you exalt Allah swt to have put me in that position for me to totally submit myself to Allah swt and to be near to Allah swt when I’m prostrating. Don’t forget ‘You are the Most Glorious, the Most Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit (Jibril). It is not by my power or my might that I bow and prostrate and submit, it only by Allah swt. This is Surat al Hashr Ism Allah Al Qadoos which brings out so much of the truth about ourselves and to understand the falsehood; and to bring the purity, but so much purity with gratitude. So don’t even come close to thinking that you are anybody who is pure by themselves. This is difficult because people thinking they are ‘qadoos’ by themselves is a big problem.
