CHAPTER 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Wings iNet Technologies (I) Pvt. Ltd. is a growing company located in the city of Pune. It provides IT services to increase efficiency, enhance productivity and reduce operating cost of customers business. The core area for business of the company is providing software solutions to hospitality industry. Its customer centric approach helps to provide best possible solution for improving quality service provided by the hospitality industry. The project aimed to identify business areas for the company.

The project consisted of surveying consumers and collecting primary and secondary data. The project area consisted of selected regions of Vidarbha Region & it helped to understand the potential as well as existing customers so as to enable the organization to make a correct decision for implementation of their marketing strategies.

Scope of the market research was wide because research covered most of restaurants & as numbers of respondents were in sufficient numbers it made the analysis easier. Before going to survey I made my own database of restaurants and hotels of Nagpur and then visited some good restaurants as per the feedback given by some local people. This helped me a lot to cover almost 200 working restaurants and to crack the deal into sales.

This project helped me a lot to learn a lot about customer relation management, talking with the clients and customers, patience during work and to generate the needs of our product to the customer. By this project I learnt about the CRM, Sales in B2B as well as B2C. As it was a tough job to cover 200 restaurants here in Nagpur where there is no such good restaurants as compared to metros. But the main objective of our project is to find a potential market and to convert the deal into sale. Make people aware about the product and to generate the need for the customers. To cover such number of restaurants and to get the relevant data, I applied a descriptive research method in the project, using a questionnaire. I also searched secondary as well as primary data for other important data.

In this solution captain carries a smart wireless touch pad device. The whole menu is loaded in the CaptainPad device. With the use of CaptainPad the overall efficiency of restaurant increases.

CaptainPad is the cutting edge technological solution for automating the order execution processes, in hotels and restaurants. Gone are the days where waiter/captain takes order on a paper pad, physically takes it to billing counter and a kitchen. Here is a solution where waiter carries a smart wireless touch pad device. The billing station and the kitchen have wireless printers. The whole menu card is loaded with the waiter device. Waiter can now send the order from his device wirelessly to the kitchen and billing station. KOT and billing information is generated instantaneously. Waiter need not go anywhere. Not only this smoothens and speeds up the order management but also improves customer satisfaction. It also generates various Management Information Systems.

The system provides a number of statements like sale summary, cash and credit sale, sales tax, discounts & tip summary, performance of various captains, summary of all menu items and many more statements to enable the management for better control and take decisions to increase revenue.

Problem Definition:In conventional restaurant management, captains take order on a paper pad, gives it to waiter for making its entry with the operator and take it to kitchen, bar or pantry etc. In this situation not only the legwork of waiter is increasing lot of manual interaction and interpretation is required. Not only everybody's precious time is wasted in turn customer also waits for the service from the waiter resulting in pressure situation and poor order management.

With CaptainPad solution captain can take orders on a wireless touchpad handheld in which your all menu items are already loaded, captain just has to add the items and order from his device, instantly the KOT/BOT comes out at their respective departments. Captain and waiter need not leave the service area and hence can give better service to their customers.

CHAPTER 5 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research in common parlance refers to a search of knowledge. One can also define research as a scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation. Redmon and Mory define research as a Systematized effort to gain new knowledge. It is actually a voyage of discovery.

Marketing Research:Marketing research is the function which links the consumers, customers, and public to the marketer through information. Information used to identify and define marketing opportunities and problems; generate, refine, and evaluate marketing actions; monitor marketing performance; and improve understanding of market as process.

Research Design:Research design is the plan, structure, and strategy of investigation conceived so as to obtain answer to research question and to control variance. There are three types of research design:a) Exploratory research: It focuses on the discovery of ideas. It is generally based

on the secondary data that are readily available.

b) Descriptive studies: It is used to know the characteristics of certain group such

as age, sex, occupation or income. Descriptive studies are well structured.c) Casual design: It investigates the cause and effect relationship between two or

more variables. The design of casual research is based on reasoning along well tested lines.

SAMPLE:Sample is a part of the population which is selected according to some rule for studying some characteristics of the population. It refers to the technique or the procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items for the sample.

Sample Design:Some of the popular complex random sampling designs are as follows:a)

Systematic sampling: In systematic sampling only the only the first unit is selected randomly and the remaining units of the sample are selected at fixed intervals. It is used when list of population are available and they are of considerable length.

b) Stratified sampling: Under stratified sampling the population is divided into

several sub-populations that are individually more homogeneous than the total population and we select items from each stratum to constitute a sample.c) Cluster sampling: In cluster sampling the total population is divided into a

number of relatively small subdivisions which are themselves cluster of still smaller units and ten some of these cluster are randomly selected for inclusion in overall sample.Page 1 of 78

d) Area sampling: If cluster happen to be some geographic subdivisions, in that

case cluster sampling is better known as area sampling. The plus and minus points of cluster sampling are also applicable to area sampling.e) Multi-stage sampling: Multi-stage sampling is a further development of the

principle of cluster sampling. Ordinarily multi-stage sampling is applied in big inquires extending to a considerable large geographical area, say, the entire country.

DATA:A Fact on which the decision is based to take a particular action. The task of data collection begins after a research problem has been defined and research design/ plan chalked out.

Data Collection Method:There are two types of data viz. primary and secondary.

Technical and trade journals. Books, Magazines and newspapers. Historical documents, public records. Websites,

With the help of both primary and secondary data, it helps me a lot to collect the information required for the project. I have used others methods to collect data like depth interview, content analysis, through projective techniques and consumer panels. I have make a scrutiny of available data because it is possible that data may be unsuitable or may be inadequate in the context of project.

CHAPTER 6 DATA ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

The main objective of our problem is the Lead Generation & Market Research As well as Presale in Nagpur area region to find a potential market.

Here we use a descriptive statistics to find the basic features of the data to study because they provide a simple summary about the sample and the measures. Describing the data is called as Descriptive Statistics. Sample size of our project is 200 working restaurants.

The above figure shows that 35 % restaurants in Nagpur working with only 1-2 Captain. There are 7 % of restaurant having No Captain, There are 10-11 (5 %)

Garden Restaurant in Nagpur that have 8 and above Captain. Our main purpose of Captain Pad is to decrease the number of captains in number and to increase the efficiency of the restaurants.

Here only 60% of restaurants are having business with kitchen followed by bar which have only 2% %. But as our product is mainly for both the kitchen as well as bar because KOT and BOT can work simultaneously and can helpful in saving the time of customer as well as the captain. By this company cant get an exact figure to create a good market to do a good business in Nagpur. But if we look to the restaurants having both Kitchens as well as Bars that makes the healthy market of 38 %. So it might be a good opportunity in future for the company and the company must open their outlet in Nagpur to give fast and secure after sales service. 3. Number of departments in a restaurant?

Above figure shows that 17% of the Restaurant in Nagpur have 50- 75 covers, maximum 33 % of the Restaurant in Nagpur have 100-150 covers and there are 6-7 Garden Restaurant in Nagpur (i.e. 3 %) have 500 and above Covers which shows that there might be a good rush in these restaurants (Garden Restaurant) and that create a good opportunity to do a business.

Above figure shows that 47 % Restaurant in Nagpur area have 1 Hall only mostly seen in one Department Restaurant and 8 % of Restaurant in Nagpur have 4 and above hall. Those restaurants having maximum hall or room or many department their service is very slow but if they were use Captainpad in their Restaurant then service will automatically increases and No. of Waiters Decreases.

Above figure shows that 26% Restaurant in Nagpur have very good interior design or very good ambience and 38 % of the Restaurant in Nagpur have good interior design and 36 % of the Restaurant have normal interior design, those who are investing on interior or ambience in Restaurant, He might be potential customer and we can approach for Captain pad to such Restaurant.

6. What is the approximate number of customers visiting your restaurant in a daily basis? 50-100 100-200 200-500 > 500

Fig. 6.3Here the above graph shows that more than 54% restaurants are having a range of 50100 customers per day followed by 24% having a range of 100-200 which shows that there might be a good rush in these restaurants and that create a good opportunity to do a business.

Accourding to above question, out of 200 restaurants in our locality 21% are using billing machine for their final billing which is mostly seen in normal Restaurant. 52% are using POS (Point of Sale), 26% are using Stocks and only 1% are using Wireless Technology which is the lowest of the above four. Accourding to the above given data, the restaurants in Nagpur are not very technology concious. Still they are using manual system for their order placing. But here the stocks and POS are almost same in data, most of the resturants are using POS in their restaurants that include Hotels as well as their restaurants. They are using POS alone. They are not using CaptianPad for their process. But as per the trend in the market and as per the present situation the POS cant be switched by stocks. Because stocks is the easiest way to complete the transaction but its not the secured way to complete the daily transaction. Here in Nagpur the restaurants daily transaction are almost of 20K to 40K on an average. But it fluctuates in a manner that almost all restaurants in Nagpur are veryPage 1 of 78

concious about the interior and the service they provide. Most of the restaurants are not very costly but they are very concious about the interior. On an average its a very good place to invest in. As per our sample size of 200, the restaurants can get our product because they understand the value of service and the interior of their restaurants. Some of the restaurants here in Nagpur has very good interior. As per the data, the product can arise their needs and provides a complete solution for their restaurants and it might get a good response in the future.

1. What are the problems faced by your current system? Delay in generating bills Man handling of resources Slow performance of the system

Most of the restaurants in Nagpur are working with billing machine and hand billing but every restaurant faced a problem somewhere with their system. Here 86% of the restaurants are facing a problem of slower performance which is huge. This mightPage 2 of 78

affect the sales as well as the restaurant image. So to overcome these problems our product could make a good business in the future.

Every system faced a problem sometime whether it is technical or any other. In Nagpur, the customer uses hand billing and software for their billing. Here the data shows that more than 50% of the restaurants when faces a problem with their systems they get repaired in between 6-12 Hrs. that might get a good response to us because our company provides an online software maintenance and 1day maximum hardware maintenance.

The restaurants in Nagpur are not very conscious about their security system. Here the 33% of the restaurants are satisfied with their existing system. According to above data analysis and design we found that restaurant customers status as follow, 19 % of the customer is showing high interest in captain pad only. 12 % of the customer is showing average interest in captain pad only. 25 % of the customer is not interested in Captainpad and POS. 26 % of the customer may be potential customer, so we have to follow up, may be in future they will be our customer or we can convert in future. And Remaining 18 % of the customer showing good response from their side but

they doesnt want to change their system, or they satisfied with their old system, or they providing only Thali in the restaurant, or restaurant sale is less or, they want POS only etc,Page 2 of 78

CHAPTER 7 FINDING

Findings of the research show that companys potential customers are restaurants with high cost grade & good interior. As fewer competitors were found against CaptainPad, company has a large market to tap & make maximum benefit from it. In Nagpur regions Restaurant we found that maximum customers are using CCS Software Pvt.Ltd for their billing i.e. POS, if we can integrate our captain pad with this software with minimum cost then we can easily converted. Also in this 2 month survey we found out of 200 Restaurant, 19% (i.e. approx 39 customers) of the customer are interested in captain pad and 12 % of the customer is average interested in captain pad and 26 % may be potential customer and 18 % of the customer showing good response. And remaining 25 % of the customer are not interested, so we have to follow up all 75 % of the customer and those who are showing high interest in captainpad , follow up must required. Accourding to the above given data, the restaurants in Nagpur are not very technology concious. Still they are using manual system for their order placing. But here the stocks and POS are almost same in data, most of the resturants are using POS in their restaurants that include Hotels as well as their restaurants. They are using POS alone. They are not using CaptianPad for their process. But as per the trend in the market and as per the present situation the POS cant be switched by stocks. Because stocks is the easiest way to complete the transaction but its not the secured way to complete the daily transaction. Here in Nagpur the restaurants daily transaction are almost of 20K to 40K on an average. But it fluctuates in a manner that almost allPage 2 of 78

restaurants in Nagpur are very concious about the interior and the service they provide. Most of the restaurants are not very costly but they are very concious about the interior. On an average its a very good place to invest in. As per our sample size of 200, the restaurants can get our product because they understand the value of service and the interior of their restaurants. Some of the restaurants here in Nagpur has very good interior. As per the data, the product can arise their needs and provides a complete solution for their restaurants and it might get a good response in the future. In these areas people are already knows about Captain pad and so many demos are already done, so please keep in touch with these people.

LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

Technology fear: Some restaurant owner or manager might thinks that they are not able to handle such technical system and cant afford it.

Cost: As many of the restaurants are working with only 1 captain, so it might get a problem to sale at such places and very costly system .

Future perception: Many people think that they can purchase the product of Rs.1Lakh. But if they cant use it as per their needs then their purchase can be wasteful. So it might get a fear to some restaurant owners or managers to look for future.

In Nagpur the restaurant industry is not so much in terms of sales. There is no hotel or restaurant that does a business of more than Rs. 1lakh per day. But there are some good restaurants that took interest to install our product into their restaurants because there interior is good and there is a huge rush in some hotels and restaurants.

SUGGESSTIONSThe company gave a list of some restaurants and hotels here in Nagpur and then I found some good restaurants by consulting with friends and colleague. Then I made my own database of restaurants and hotels on the basis of the location, uses, services, departments. After making my own database I search some good restaurants to cover it and then make prepared self accordingly to crack the deal. But before I went to them I went some normal restaurants so that I can be prepared to talk to them because different locations have different needs and wants. There is a good market for the company to do a business in future. At a minimum, the current market uses billing machine and billing software called CCS Pvt.Ltd i.e. (Sanjay jains Software) and handling for their restaurant billing. Factors that need to be examined in the future include: The existing restaurants are using billing software to complete the payment

process. The company has to make their CaptainPad in accordance to work with their existing softwares. The company has to lower the cost of its software which is certainly so high as compared to the other existing softwares in the market. The company can increase the cost of CaptainPad. So that the cost of software can be recovered. The company can decrease the maintenance cost by 2% so that it can attract more and more customers. The company can increases the Battery backup of CaptainPad.
