This is a morris dance tune and for the dance the sequence is A½(AB3)2AC3AD3A. As a session tune that is too long so we should play A½(AB2)2AC2AD2.

The 8-bar A music is made up of two identical 4-bar phrases. This 4-bar phrase forms the second half of the B, C and D musics and is played identically in each case. (So we should be good at this by the time we have finished). For that matter the first 4-bars of the B, C and D musics are also "the same", just to a different rhythm in each case. The C music is for "Quick Slows" and the first 4 bars are played quite staccato with the emphasis on the second beat - count One TWO three four; Two TWO three four; Three TWO three four; Four TWO three four. These "slows" are probably played at a faster tempo than the A music.

The D music is for "Slow Slows" and the first 4 bars are played legato with the emphasis on the third beat - count One two THREE four; Two two THREE four; Three two THREE four; Four two THREE four. These "slows" are played at a slower tempo than the Amusic.

Note that other musicians may not play "Quick Slows" and will play A½(AB2)2(AD2)2.
