Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER/PGI), is a highly respected government medical center in Chandigarh
Dr. Niranjan Khandelwal, Head of Radiodiagnosis at PGI partnered with Philips Healthcare & RAD-AID to purchase a mobile van that will provide the screening service

How It Works: Program Design• RAD-AID and PGIMER’s proposed mobile unit:
– Mammography
– Colposcopy
– DEXA
• Philips Healthcare agreed to donate van and all equipment with service contract
• PGIMER School of Public Health for community outreach
• Follow-up care and treatment by clinical services

Mobile van equipped with :
• Digital mammography
– Breast cancer screening
• Digital Colposcopy
– Cervical cancer screening using Visual inspection with Acetic acid (VIA)
• Dual energy X-ray Absorpitometry (DEXA) scanning
– Osteoporosis screening
• Sonosite -Portable ultrasound for second look ultrasound in screening mammography
How It Works: Equipment

Women Receive Necessary Testing and/ or Treatment
PGI Educates and Coordinates Care
Women Travel to PGI for Further Testing and/or Treatment
Screening is negative Results Show Need for Follow-up Screening is Inconclusive

Asha Jyoti means "Ray of Hope" in Hindi
The project stared in 2013 and was designed to
provided screening for breast and cervical cancer to
rural populations in Northern India, in the Punjab
province and City of Chandigarh

In Sep 30, 2011, The American Society of Radiologic Technologists partnered with RAD-AID International to recruit radiologic technologists for volunteer opportunities in developing countries
Olive became involved in the project in 2014 when she was invited to travel to India as a RAD-AID/ASRT technologist follow
Debbie also initially joint the Asha Jyoti project as a technologist fellow in 2016

Last December Olive and Debbie were promoted to associate directors, RAD-AID India

The project was so successful it has been extended
There is also a proposal to expand the project to Maharashtra State (Mumbai)
