MathsThis week we are going to revisit the topic of money. This was something we learnt in the autumn and touch upon frequently. It’s very important life skill to know how to add amounts of money.

MondayLO: To recognise coins. For this activity you will need to find some coins around the house. Hopefully you have some in a money bank that you can use or ask your grown ups if they have any extra change lying around.

Tuesday LO: To add coins.

These next three sheets get progressively more difficult. Make sure you look carefully at the coins. If you have real coins at home, try making the amounts with your coins so that you can physically relate what is going on. This first sheet just deals with 1p coins. You need to count the coins to know the total. Make sure you write the number and include ‘p’ for the units. For exam-ple: ‘6p’ not just ‘6’

Wednesday LO: To add coins.

This time there are some 2p coins as well as 1p coins. Each 2p coin is worth 2 so you will need to count 1,2 for each one. If you can count in 2s then do that.

ThursdayLO: To add coins.

These are the fancy ice creams and they cost more. This time you have 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p coins. Remember to include the ‘p’ for pence in your answer.

FridayLO: To explore money.

Choose one of the following activities or do both if you’d like! 1) Coin sorting This one works well if you have a bunch of coins around the house. Dump all the change on the floor and then sort them. You could sort them by value (2p, 5p, etc), by size, by colour or even by country if you have foreign currency.

2) For this activity you will need a muffin tray and some baking cases. You write the amount in the case (20p, 5p, 3p, 14p, etc) Then you make the amounts using real coins (or paper) and place them in the cases.

IT

LO: To research using a search engine.LO: To create a poster about a famous person.

This week I would like you to research your favourite celebrity. I would like you to use a search engine to find out interesting facts about your person. This could include their date of birth, work they’ve done, their families, etc. I would then like you to create a poster containing these facts and photos. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Science LO: To investigate moon craters.

Look up some photos of the moon’s surface or watch this NASA video of a tour of the moon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iSZMv64wuU

What do you see? Those big holes are called craters. How were craters formed? The following video explains this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSKiJaMQKgM

If you have sand at home, try making your own surface of the moon. Fill a tray or plate with sand. Then drop small balls or rocks into the sand and watch how they make indentations or “craters”.
