IntroductionIf you aren't aware of what Newaygo County RESA does, then we'd love to share our story with you.  We serve in several areas, and provide a broad range of programs and services to meet the needs of all students, and their families throughout Newaygo County.  

Many of these programs and services listed in this resource are available free of charge or for a nominal fee to homeschool students who live in Newaygo County.  We welcome your feedback and questions.  To enroll, or speak with someone about these programs, please contact us at (231) 924-0381.

Birth to KindergartenChild Find - Birth to 3 Years Old Coordinators from the Early On program meet with families in the community to  screen, evaluate, identify and refer all young children who are in need of early intervention or special services.  More information about Child Find can be found here.

Early On  - Birth to 3 Years Old This program assists families with infants and toddlers, from birth until they turn 3 years of age, who may be experiencing delays in their development or if they have a diagnosed disability.  This program provides direct help by a trained professional who will help you learn ways to help your child.  You can learn more about Early On here.

Building Bridges Great Start Readiness Programs (GSRP) 3 - 4 Years Old This preschool program offers research based curriculum that includes literacy, science, social studies, health, safety, motor and social development and music.  We have several locations in Fremont, Grant, Hesperia, Newaygo and White Cloud.  Families that qualify can participate free of charge, or tuition-based, for families who do not meet eligibility criteria.  You can learn more about Building Bridges GSRP here. 

Great Start Collaborative - Birth to 5 Years Old Newaygo County RESA collaborates with early childhood partners in the county to provide information and services to families and young children in a wide range of areas including physical health, social-emotional health, family supports, basic needs, parent education, early education and child care. You can learn more about Great Start Collaborative here.

Parents As Teachers - Birth to 5 Years Old This is a voluntary early childhood parent education program based on the philosophy that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers. You can learn more here.

Great Parents, Great Start! READY kits are distributed to families for infants, and children 1-3 years old.  These kits are designed to provide parents with information on child development and methods to enhance parent child-interaction while learning. They include a book, music CD, parent DVD, developmental milestones, activity cards and items to promote access to needed community services.  You can learn more about the Great Parents, Great Start program here.

K - 8  Grade ProgramsCollege for Kids Exploratory Classes and Summer Camps - Grades 3 - 8 Exploratory classes and summer camps are available on a seasonal basis through the Advanced and Accelerated Programs.  You can learn more about what exploratory classes are offered here.

Jr. FIRST Lego League - Ages 6 - 9 Years Old Jr. FIRST Lego League offers an introduction to technology, science and engineering while adhering to the core principles of FIRST. You can learn more here.

FIRST Lego League - Ages 9 - 14 Years Old Students build and program Lego robots to perform specific tasks and to compete with other robots.  You can learn more about FIRST Lego League here.

Academic Talented Youth Program (ATYP) - Grades 7 - 8 This program offers classes in high school English Language Arts and Math for advanced middle school students.  Both are specialized and accelerated programs and may result in students receiving up to three high school credits over the two years they spend in the program.  Learn more about ATYP here.

Spelling Bee - Grades 3-8 NC RESA is the sponsor and host for the Newaygo County Regional Spelling Bee, a qualifying event for the Greater Grand Rapids Bee and the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.  You can learn more about the spelling bee competitions here. 

High School ProgramsCTE Math Academic Integration Program (Algebra II/Geometry) - Grades 11-12 Students who attend Career-Tech Center are provided an opportunity to earn and/or recover high school math credit in Algebra and Geometry.

Gen-NET Online Learning - Grades 9 - 12 GenNET Online Learning provides an easy-to-use portal of over 2,500 online courses in a wide range of subject areas (core, advanced placement, credit recovery, CTE, electives) for students in grades K-12.  All courses are offered at a discounted rate.  You can learn more about GenNet Online Learning here.

Newaygo County Career-Tech Programs - Grades 11 - 13 Career and Technical education programming for 11th, 12th and 13th year students in our region in: AgriScience, Automotive Technology, Business Applied Technology, Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Graphic Communications, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Mechatronics, Truck & Heavy Equipment, Welding and Work Based Learning.  Learn more about Career-Tech programming here.

Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) - Grades 11 - 13 For students that attend the Career-Tech program, participation consists of leadership training, community service and student competitions.

Career Placement Coordinator Services - Grades 12 and 13 Career placement services are available for students that have completed a program in the Career- Tech Center.

First Robotics Competition - Grades 9 - 12 The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international program in engineering and robotics.  Newaygo County is home to Team 1918, called NC GEARS (Newaygo County Geeks Engineering Advanced Robotics Systems). The season begins in January of each year and competitions continue through April. Learn more about First Robotics Competition here.

Special EducationOutside Referrals NC RESA is a central location for child find services to make resources easily accessible for families.

Enterprise Work-based Learning System This is a work-based learning opportunity for students with special needs.  Students learn attitudes, skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the workplace.  Students produce wood products such as picnic tables, cornhole games, adirondack chairs, cutting boards and other projects.  Daily living skills, such as cooking and laundry are also taught as part of their transition focus of this program.  Learn more about this program here.

Ancillary Services Newaygo County RESA's team of ancillary staff include Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Behavioral Consultations, Autism Specialists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and Early Childhood Specialists. Homeschool students must be registered with the Michigan Department of Education in order to receive their services.

Transition Program - 18 to 26 Years Old Transition services assist students with preparation as they move from the school environment into employment or post-secondary  education.  You can learn more about these services here. 

Extended School Year - Preschool - 26 Years Old This program provides special education instruction during summer break for students that meet the qualifications through their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Autism Summer Experience (Based Upon Grant Funding) - KD - 26 Years Old This program serves those who are severely impacted by Autism in Newaygo County and is designed to bring enriching opportunities to students during the summer months in collaboration with community partners.
