C.O.O.LCoordinated Online Opportunity
for Leadership
“Volunteering Made Easier”
What is c.o.o.lC.O.O.L provides opportunities for all members from all backgrounds
and geographic areas access to volunteer opportunities within AOTA.
Members can use the COOL database to create an online volunteer
profile with their interests, expertise, and available time commitments.
The profile will allow AOTA staff and commission chairpersons to find
members who meet the criteria for volunteer opportunities as they arise.
How you can volunteer
All AOTA members are invited to complete a volunteer
profile for the C.O.O.L database. Following completion
of the profile, members can examine possible
volunteer opportunities that match their area of
expertise, years of experience, amount of time
available to volunteer, and other criteria.
Getting Started
To get started, create a profile in the COOL database. This profile allows AOTA staff or committee chairpersons to find you, matching your unique profile characteristics to the criteria for a specific volunteer opportunity (e.g., a committee chairperson may be looking for someone in a particular practice area and geographic location who can commit to a certain number of hours per month). You also can peruse the opportunities available now or that may be available in the future.
Volunteer opportunities
C.O.O.L allows volunteers the opportunity to select based on :
1.Practice Areas
2.Areas of interest
3.Time Commitment
4.Length of Service
5.Experience Level……etc.

Year in a glance…
Revised Delegate’s Handbook
Handbook was overhauled to better reflect the duties of a delegate based on feedback from the 2010 delegates meeting.
Emailed to delegates and posted to OT Connections.
Also available on the ASD section of the AOTA webpage.
Created the Delegate’s Roster
Designed to be a more efficient way of keeping delegates informed
Enables delegates to contact each other regarding SOTA or ASD business
Student Conclave
Sponsored dinner outing with the help of Eastern Kentucky University and Spalding University to increase opportunities for conclave attendants to network through evening dining plans.
Hosted lunch-time discussion
OT Connections
This year the Steering Committee is encouraged student participation in OT Connections in two ways… 1) Created a new
instruction sheet to guide delegates on joining OT Connections and becoming part of the ASD group. AOTA > Students > ASD Also as in Delegates
Handbook 2) Used social media
outlets (e.g. Facebook) to inform students about OT Connections.
MH SIS/ ASD Collaboration Problem: OT representation in the mental health practice
area is decreasing
Many practitioners would like to see this number increase and hypothesized strategies of altering OT education, OT fieldwork, etc (per OT Connections) to increase OTs role in MH
Therefore to find out more, the ASD and MH SIS teamed up to determine students experiences in terms of mental health fieldwork and coursework through a survey based on the Mental Health Specialized Knowledge and Skills paper (2010).
ASD supplied 3 delegates with interest in MH who are working the the MH SIS chair to create and distribute survey
Results will be presented as a SIS roundtable discussion for AOTA 2012
Please take our survey!
