The Asbestos Awareness course is designed to give learners knowledge about the history and use of Asbestos and Asbestos-Containing Ma-terial (ACM). It will summarise the current risks and existence of Asbestos in the UK, and how to ensure the safety of those who may come into contact with it. The course is a balanced sum-mary of all the issues pertaining to the substance and covers all UK rules and regulations that apply to domestic and non-domestic properties. It covers the standards needed to comply with the Con-trol of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Module one takes a look at the history of Asbestos and why it was used so much in the UK building industry. It also examines the natural properties of the substance and the types in use in the UK. There is also an overview of the risks of the material and when/why it was banned in Great Britain.

Module Seven describes the way in which potentially hazard-ous Asbestos waste can be safely handled and disposed of. We also look at who is legally obliged to do this, and who enforces the regulations and licensing of the practice.

Module Eight will teach the methods of dealing with acciden-tal or unexpected exposure f rom Asbestos. It covers what to do in an emergency and how to aid Emergency Services in the event of Asbestos discovery.
